  1. The team seems like they are doing a better job at the plate and the effort level has risen. I think getting rid of Roenicke and hiring Counsell is just what this team needed. I honestly think this team is capable of getting back to .500 by the end of June as long as they decide, as a group, to buy in and become a more fundamentally sound ball club.
  2. So how did they ever win 96 games with him? He'll probably say they would've won 120 of he wasn't the manager... He'll probably say your team better win 96 games with Greinke, Gallardo, Marcum, Hart, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, and Axford all in their prime. Free swinging and making outs on the bases is the exact opposite of what it takes to be a winning baseball team and that's pretty much what Roenicke is promoting with his style. The problem is he is too "nice" and so guys think they can keep making the same mistakes without any recourse. Do you disagree?
  3. I absolutely hate rationale of this kind. That has nothing to do with it! Everyone knows Ron Roenicke isnt a motivator, hes not a guy to light a fire under your ass, hes got a horrible philosophy on how to play the game of baseball, and he's not going to make you afraid of making an ill-advised mistake because he wants aggressiveness no matter how stupid it is. He's a bad manager because his philosophy teaches aggression yet he doesnt have the balls to to get PO'd at a guy when he does something stupid because it would only contradict himself. I hope, like the Bucks, its someone the players will listen to and respect. My whole opinion about Roenicke is that when things were going well they were going too well and when things were going bad they were going way too bad. You cant have extreme highs and extreme lows in baseball. Its the job of the manager to keep guys as close to 50/50 regardless of recent successes or failures. He, IMO, failed to do so.
  4. The Nats re-signed Strasburg for 7.4million, however Melvin decided to pick up the team option on Gallardo for whopping 13million back in September. I know Strasburg prob got a hometown discount, but really? There's no way Gallardo should be getting paid twice as much as Strasburg even if Strasburg got a hometown discount. The more i see things unfold this off-season the more I keep telling myself that this might be the final year for Melvin/Roenicke. Im a huge Crew fan but i unfortunatley predict the Crew finishing last with Melvin/Roenicke getting fired and waiting another 5yrs before we regain contention status. Any thoughts or contradictions?
  5. How much is Parra going to make next year?? We gave up talent for him, we are going to give up talent for Broxton (makes $9mil next year), and Melvin just exercised the option on Gallardo for $13million. We are dishing out money and prospects for average aging players (Broxton & Gallardo). Its almost as if Melvin assumed we would at least get a WC spot and he went ahead and acquired a few guys who he thought COULD help us now, but be back for next year as well. This tells me he was NEVER thinking about making a huge deal to help push this team through this year. I think its a very conservative/selfish decision on his part. Just my opinion.
  6. Bad Trade by the Brewers. I would've been happier if they did nothing. Parra said today that as long as he plays everyday that he will be happy...That is not going to happen. The only thing he has on Schafer is a better arm. He will only give us 1 or 2 more hits per week because we will platoon him. How many games have we lost this year because of Davis' lack of range and arm?? Not many, if any. This trade will only create turmoil....mark my words.
  7. Because we have needed a player like this all year coming off of our bench. But if you put a guy on the bench that is used to playing everyday then his odds of being a good offensive player decrease largely. Logan Schafer is a very good defensive player (just like Parra), but if you only play the guy once every 3-5 days you can't expect him to perform to his career numbers....im sorry but unless Davis is unloaded then this trade only nets us 1 or 2 hits every 3-5 games. Edit: Im just saying that there is something very fishy about this trade and that maybe Davis could be involved in a trade for Price.
  8. I guess i just dont understand why we would trade for a Gold Glover outfielder with good batting #'s against RH's if we are only going to make him a bench player.
  9. I am nevously waiting by my computer for the next 90 min because i am almost sold that Davis will be involved in a HUGE DEAL...If not, i will be very disappointed.
  10. Since they didn't bring him in to be an everyday starter (unless there's an injury), what else is there and what else did you think the Brewers needed in him? I may be out of my mind here but maybe the Brewers are working on a deal for David Price in the next hour??? I see no other need for Parra unless we are going to trade Davis.
  11. I know that Parra is a former gold glover, but is he going to play enough for his bat to even matter over Khris Davis'. Gomez and Braun arent going to sit in favor of him very often. Its (1:08 CT)...maybe Khris Davis is in discussion for a Blockbuster deal?????? IDK im just speculating at this point.
  12. Im not going to say too much else other than Yadier Molina is probably the reason most of these Cards trades work out on the pitching side. He's the best at calling games, blocking pitches, and throwing out runners. These 2 trades by the Cards are very weird especially since AJ is now their catcher for only about a month....i guess we will just have to wait and see.
  13. I took a quick glance at the Brewer's schedule and came up with their current records against contending teams so far this year. The Brewers have LOST the season series to ATL (2-5) and WAS (2-4). They TRAIL the season series against STL (4-5), TOR (0-2), CIN (6-7). They have WON the season series against NY (2-1), BAL (2-1). They LEAD the season series against PITT (10-3). They still have 6 games a piece against LAD and SF. With the exception of Pittsburgh, the Brewers have not fared well so far against contending teams, but there is still time to turn it around.
  14. Yea, I've been thinking about that too. Say they do very well agains those teams. Doesn't necessarliry mean they can beat them later. Just as doing poorly against them doesn't mean they can't beat them later. Sure, it tells us something but I'm not going to read too much into it. When this offense is humming, they can hit anyone. When it's not, they can't hit anyone. Impossible to predict when they'll be on, for how long, or what magical force needs to happen to get the bats going. Pretty sure RR has been trying to figure that out all year. (But I am pretty sure the answer isn't bunting more.) I agree, but if they play .400 baseball the next 2 weeks like they are prone to do against very good teams there is no way they are still going to be in 1st place at end of this 2 week stretch....This is the time to man up and prove you are one of the best teams in baseball. I will officially be a buyer if they can get through this stretch and keep the division lead.
  15. The Brewers haven't exactly fared too well against teams that are above .500 this year, especially teams that have the type of pitching that TB, STL, LA, and SF have.... I'm very anxious to see how well they perform the next 2 weeks because I think it will foreshadow whether or not they will be able to hold on and make the playoffs.
