  1. From wbir.com in Knoxville: Former South-Doyle standout and Tennessee first baseman Cody Hawn has signed with the Milwaukee Brewershttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif. The Brewers drafted Hawn in the 6th round of the MLBhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif Draft. he will leave Monday to play rookie ball in Helena, Montana. This past season, the junior batted .327 with 14 home runs and a team-best 61 RBIs. During his two years at Tennessee, Hawn blasted 36 home runs. That puts his third on Tennessee's all-time home run list.
  2. From the Albany Herald: D'Vontrey Richardson signed his contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, who drafted him in the fifth round earlier this year, at his home Friday night. "It feels good to get the process going," said Richardson, who added he is flying to Milwaukee on Monday and then to Arizona in the near future to begin Rookie League ball. Good to see this got done.
  3. The Tucson Toros announced Thursday that the Milwaukee Brewers have acquired the contract of Righthanded Pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen. The hard throwing Tucson native struck out an impressive 13 batters over 11 2/3 innings for the Toros this season and notched two saves, including the franchise's first ever save on Opening Night. Wilhelmsen will be returning to the Milwaukee organization who originally drafted him in the 7th round of the 2002 MLB Amatuer Draft out of Tucson High School. Tom is expected to report to the Brewers minor league complex in Phoenix before joining the Rookie Level Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League.
  4. Melvin contacted Schmidt's agents before the meetings began to see if the right-hander would even consider an offer from Milwaukee. Melvin characterized the response from Randy and Alan Hendricks as lukewarm. "I think this is how [agents] operate: They say, 'There's A and B where I want to be, and to go to C, D or E, I'd have to get the extra year or get more money.'" The team faced the same dilemma last month with outfielder Dave Roberts, who preferred to stay on the West Coast and eventually signed with San Francisco. The Brewers also showed interest in Juan Pierre, but they were told that Milwaukee was not on Pierre's wish list. He eventually went to the Dodgers. From the Brewers website....
  5. Looks like this one won't happen... From the Brewers website: The Brewers and Phillies were at the center of one of the more lively rumors in the lobby at the Dolphin Hotel on Tuesday. Talk circulated earlier in the day that the teams were closing on a trade that would have included Phillies veteran starter Jon Lieber and Brewers outfielders Kevin Mench or Geoff Jenkins and possibly relievers Derrick Turnbow or Jose Capellan. Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash did chat with Phillies officials, including GM Pat Gillick, but Melvin dismissed talk of the deal as "an Internet rumor." Melvin asked the Phillies if they had interest in Jenkins and/or Mench, and "Pat Gillick says no," Melvin said.
  6. Another non - drafted free agent. I didn't see this posted elsewhere... Ryan Metcalf - SS from UAB uabsports.cstv.com/sports...06aaa.html
  7. From ESPN... Sent outright outfielder Brad Nelson to Huntsville of the Southern League (AA). Maybe in preparation for Helling coming off the 60 day DL?
  8. New catcher added as per Baseball America from the Twins system: Milwaukee Brewers Signed SS Zach Sorensen, C Kyle Phillips and LHP Russel Rohlicek. Placed 2B Brian Dallimore on voluntarily retired list.
  9. Baseball America now shows Ryan Braun as signed. www.baseballamerica.com/d...p?team=MIL That should hopefully help the Power.
  10. From CNNsi... Milwaukee Brewers - Signed pitchers William Inman and Christopher Jean, outfielder Brendan Katin and third baseman Michael Bell. Didn't take long for the Miami outfielder to sign...
  11. From JSonline... confirming the previous article... Another in the fold: The Brewers have signed third-round draft pick Will Inman, a right-hander from Tunstall High School in Dry Fork, Va. The selection of Inman was an example of persistence in scouting. When the velocity on Inman's fastball dipped into the mid 80s (mph) in the summer of 2004 at Virginia's Commonwealth Games, many teams pulled their scouts back. But Inman's fastball was back up in the low 90s this spring as a senior and the Brewers were not going to let him go by in the third round. "That's the difference between thorough scouting and surface scouting," said Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash. "Our guys kept going back to see him." The Brewers are expected to move quickly this week to sign top draft pick Ryan Braun, a third baseman for the University of Miami. The Hurricanes were eliminated from the NCAA playoffs Saturday, leaving Braun open for negotiations.
  12. From the Brewers MLB site... Signing on: The Brewers signed 11 of their draft choices from the just-completed First-Year Player Draft, announced director of scouting Jack Zduriencik. Topping the list of signees is third baseman Matt Gamel, a fourth-round selection from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla. He'll be assigned to Helena, the Brewers' rookie league team in the Pioneer League. Milwaukee also signed center fielder Michael Brantley, a seventh-round pick, who is the son of former Major Leaguer and current Toronto Blue Jays hitting coach Mickey Brantley. He'll be assigned to the Brewers' rookie league team in the Arizona League. A pretty good day for the crew...
  13. I didn't see this posted elsewhere. From CNNsi... Milwaukee Brewers - Agreed to terms with pitcher Rick Helling on a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Probably worth a look. Helling didn't pitch in the majors last year...and as I recall....thought he retired.
  14. From CNNSI... Milwaukee Brewers - Signed pitcher Alexandre Periard. Brewers successful in signing another Canadian.
  15. From CNNSI... Milwaukee Brewers - Signed outfielder Josh Brady and pitcher Brandon Hundt. I assume Hundt is an undrafted free agent.
  16. From CNNSI... Milwaukee Brewers - Signed outfielder Stephen Chapman, their sixth-round pick in the First-Year Player Draft; signed outfielder Jacob Serfass and pitcher Brandan Murray. I assume the others are undrafted free agents... 5 of the top 6 signed...not bad...
  17. From BA... Milwaukee Brewers Released C Brian Foster, RHP Chris Gittings and OF Manuel Melo.
  18. ...states the Brewers have signed a RHP named Rhett Rivard. Not sure if this is the guy, although it's a good bet since he was in the Ranger organization... www.sports-wired.com/play...?Name=GHFG Also..they signed a SS named Luis Figueroa.
  19. Liefer and Erickson have been signed. From ESPN... Milwaukee Brewers ; signed infielder Matt Erickson and outfielder Jeff Liefer to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training. Also MLB.com shows Mike Kusiewicz on the Indy roster. Looks like some decent numbers for the lefthanded pitcher. www.sports-wired.com/play...sp?ID=5924
  20. The new issue of BA shows that the Brewers resigned catcher Alex Delgado and signed an outfielder by the name of Freddy de la Cruz. I assume de la Cruz is on the AZ Brewers roster. BA also shows Jacob Cruz signing with the Reds. He shows up on MLB.com's Louisville roster as well.
  21. As per MLB.com's Indy roster. Looks like a couple of decent pickups for AAA. RHP- Victor Santos www.sports-wired.com/play...p?Name=FAI OF Jon Nunnally www.sports-wired.com/play...sp?ID=6461
  22. Looks like some roster filler. The Huntsville roster now shows Kevin Haverbusch as an outfielder. He was in the Pirates organization for a bunch of years.
  23. From ESPN... Milwaukee Brewers Signed pitcher Brian Bowles, catcher Chris Coste and outfielder Chris Magruder to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training. Looks like some decent numbers after 1998 for Bowles. www.sports-wired.com/play...?Name=EBGH
  24. From CNN SI... Milwaukee Brewers - Signed outfielder Anthony Gwynn, catcher Brian Opdyke and pitcher Ryan Marion.
  25. From CNNSI... Milwaukee Brewers - Reached agreements with pitchers Brian Montalbo, Greg Kloosterman, Tyler Morrison, Tommy Hawk, Kenneth Durost, Ricky Stover, Dan Grybash and Phillip Hendrix.
