There were five games in the Brewers system Friday, then five rematches Saturday as series continued. The affiliates who won Friday did not win Saturday. The affiliates who lost Friday did not lose Saturday. We're just going to hold Friday's report up to a mirror, take a screenshot, and the reverse image will paste itself here. Wait, doesn't work that way? Better get typing then...let's get on to the latest updates. Image courtesy of Biloxi Shuckers and Mike Krebs - Felix Valerio & Ernesto Martinez Pictured TRANSACTIONS: RHP Jacob Misiorowski placed on AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list RHP Kaleb “Bo” Bowman activated from AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list LHP Darrell Thompson assigned to AA Biloxi from AAA Nashville Adam McCalvy of Brewers.com: Brewers' top pitching prospect on IL to rest arm Final: ACL D-Backs Red 14, ACL Brewers 2, Game Two of the Best-of-Three Arizona Complex League Championship Series, which is now tied at one game apiece Box Score / Wrap No drama here, as the Maryvale men went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st, and then starting RHP Daniel Corniel gave up a home run to the first batter he faced in the bottom of the inning. That was just the start, as the next five batters went single (stolen base), walk, double, single, home run. Six batters, six runs. Ouch. Corniel retired the next three batters and somewhat remarkably made it through three innings, allowing just one additional run. Corniel, a Venezuelan native who only turned 19 years old last month, was not overpowering in 2023 outside of his strikeout numbers (48 in 36.1 IP), had a 1.57 WHIP in 11 appearances (eight starts). Outside of two pitchers combining to strand four inherited runners, no arm shined here. Five pitchers combined to walk 12 and allow four bombs. Mound clunker throughout. The dirty secret this week is that the A-Crew is fortunate to be alive for the winner-take-all championship game Sunday evening. They have 16 hits total in three postseason games, scoring seven runs. Manager Rafael Neda and Hitting Coach Mike Habas gave five bench players some playoff action before things ended, We'll note that 19-year-old RF Reece Walling (and his prototype 6'3" LH swing) was 2-for-3 with a walk, and 17-year-old (my goodness, not even 18 years old until November) 3B Eric Bitonti (and his prototype 6'4" LH swing) doubled and walked before being lifted. Hey, how about MiLB, they assigned four umpires at the rookie level for these games. So, it's all-or-nothing Sunday, have your Gameday-watching eyes ready for 7:00 PM Central, or grab a quick flight to Scottsdale, where first pitch temperature Saturday was 107 degrees. Let's go, Maryvale! Our guy @damuelle will have details for you Monday AM. Final: Gwinnett (Braves) 4, Nashville 1 Via the Sounds' site, we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of your season-long Link Report routine: Sounds Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped by Gwinnett - Offense goes 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position in 4-1 defeat Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Wrap As you just read in the summary (just a click away!), LHP Eric Lauer remains an intriguing polarizing figure, with nine K's in 4.2 innings of work (92 pitches). But the four walks (three consecutive) hurt. It's interesting that Lauer now remains under team control through 2025 and not 2024, but would the Brewers offer arbitration this fall to build on Lauer's $5.075 million salary, even if it's only a modest bump? Will Lauer be the LHP added on September 1st? Old friend Jesus Aguilar did damage as the DH in the 3-hole for the victors. Night off for Keston Hiura. Notice how when the big-league club produces as they have this week, the K-Train talk dissipates even as Hiura is still banging. Final: Biloxi 6, Pensacola (Marlins) 2 Via the Shuckers' site: Shuckers Score Early, Tack on Late in 6-2 Win over Pensacola - Biloxi keeps pace with Montgomery, bullpen combines for 3.2 scoreless innings Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Wrap This is just one of seven video treats at the Shuckers "X" Media Feed: To be honest, Voice of the Shuckers Javik Blake is only a few years older than Jackson Chourio, but when Javik reflects on his proud broadcasting career in 50 years, he'll always remember his 2023 season with the future MLB star. Closer Cam Robinson's rebound second-half has been sweet redemption (he did comment to all the doubters back in June, after all), but he's still headed to minor league free agency, where he'll be a popular target as a former 40-man roster player heading into his age 24 season. You know they'll be cautious with Jeferson, catching is so tough, man... OF Carlos D. Rodriguez was a late scratch, so something to monitor there. The Biloxi position player group is currently super-lean. With Rodriguez unavailable, Zavier Warren was the only non-catcher on the bench. Final: Wisconsin 14, Quad Cities (Royals) 4 Via the Timber Rattlers' site: Rattlers Roll to 14-4 Win Over River Bandits - Wisconsin matches season high for runs scored in a game Pre-Game Media Notes (Download Link) via the team's Virtual Press Box Box Score / Wrap Got a nickel? How about a dime? Because as the expanded highlights below will show, there was only one XBH (Hendry Mendez double) among the Rattlers' 14 knocks. The boys drew eight walks as well, and let's just replicate 8-for-19 RISP every night, and things will be fine. The Wisconsin bench has six players available, could a bump be upcoming to supplement Biloxi's playoff chase? Overshadowing things was the very early exit by starting RHP Bradley Blalock. Early indications are a side injury (oblique? lat?). Hopefully not arm-related. Blalock is a near lock for 40-man roster placement this fall given the organization's Luis Urias investment. Blalock has fought back from March 2022 Tommy John surgery. RHP Miguel Guerrero's stat line for the day will show an ERA of 9.00 over four innings, but his emergency appearance and length was big here. Indy-ball find RHP Sam Gardner was excellent and seeks an age-appropriate Biloxi assignment, though the walk rate remains high. Gardner's proven talented enough to mitigate any damage from the bases on balls. Robert Moore (4-for-5) and Luis Lara (2-for-3, two BB's) each reached base four times. Sit back and enjoy: Lara and Brock Wilken the most popular auction jerseys thus far, bidding ends at 7:00 PM Central this evening. Final: Carolina 9, Columbia (Royals) 5 Areinamo Homers in 9-5 Carolina Victory - The first-place Mudcats - playing as the Raleigh Grays - extended their lead in the second half standings with Saturday's victory Pregame Media Notes Box Score / Wrap First baseman Tayden Hall with a 15-game hitting streak, and that's a hitting streak folks, not one of those on-base streaks that we know are nice but don't have the Paul Molitor-esque mystique. Trending nicely, yeah baby: OF Jace Avina OPS by month, starting in April: .659, .678, .579, .951, 1.068 Now this play didn't impact Avina's OPS, but is worth your eyes: It's not quite Richie Sexson hitting the Tal Hill's flagpole in Houston, but this Jadher Areinamo blast is very cool: In case you didn't remember: More video available via the Carolina "X" feed as well. Oh, and this just in - RHP Logan Henderson is still very, very good. OK Maryvale, make it happen. Among the full-season clubs, Biloxi has the late-afternoon start, otherwise it's a traditional Sunday schedule. Have a nice day, everybody. ARIZONA LEAGUE SCOREBOARD: It's a 7:00 PM Central gametime at the D-Backs' park at Talking Stick, second game of a best-of-three, A-Crew up, 1-0if necessary, same time, same place, Sunday. -
There was much goodness from Gwinnett, GA, where the Sounds continued their roll with a fifth straight victory, and suddenly, their postseason prospects look as bright as any of the full-season affiliates. The Shuckers and Mudcats stumbled - as of this morning, Biloxi just misses the playoffs while Carolina clings to a two-game advantage. Wrestling Night in Appleton did not produce an over-the-top-rope victory. So, we will break from tradition here and through the weekend, and lead off our report from Maryvale, where gametime first pitch was only 108 degrees. Image courtesy of Biloxi Shuckers and Mike Krebs - Freddy Zamora Pictured TRANSACTIONS: RHP Julio Teheran placed on a rehab assignment at High-A Wisconsin OF Terence Doston placed on High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list SS/3B Eduardo Garcia activated from High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list Final: ACL Brewers 2, ACL D-Backs Red 1, Game One of the Best-of-Three Arizona Complex League Championship Series Box Score / Wrap One. More. Win. Sure would be nice to kick off the next five-to-six-weeks of Brewers farm system action with a banner-clinching effort for American Family Fields of Phoenix. The A-Crew hosted Game One as the lower seed, with the series now moving to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick for the remainder of the set. Just as was the case in Thursday's 3-2 semifinal game win over the Rockies, pitching led the way. RHP Josh Timmerman, the 2023 16th round RHP out of Ohio State, tossed scoreless ball over the first three innings. Timmerman only turned 21 earlier this month, young for a draftee out of a four-year school. 19-year-old LHP Osbriel Mogollon, the 2nd year (1st year stateside) Venezuelan, followed with four shutout frames of his own. Mogollon only walked one, avoiding the control issues that occasionally marred his otherwise very solid season-long work. 2-0 lead going to the 8th for the good guys... Welcome back, RHP Justin Yeager (3rd piece in the amazing Esteury Ruiz trade), first time on the mound since May 11th with Biloxi. One unearned run allowed, and got three outs with the tying run standing on second base with no outs. There was similar drama in the 9th as non-drafted signing RHP Bayden Root got K's swinging on the first two men, before two singles placed runners on the corners. One more swinging K ended the contest, sweet! Kudos to Juan Baez (playing second base here) for his two-run double in the 3rd. Anti-kudos for being thrown out at 3rd with no outs trying to extend to a triple. Review the box and log for not a whole lot in the way of Crew offense outside of seven walks. Two chances for a championship, come back Sunday AM for our next report! Final: Nashville 7, Gwinnett (Braves) 3 Via the Sounds' site, we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of your season-long Link Report routine: Sounds Stay Hot, Win Fifth Straight - Nashville clinches series win with 11th consecutive victory over Gwinnett Box Score / Wrap As a 2021 draft pick by San Diego, LHP Robert Gasser does not need to be protected in Rule 5 this winter, still too early in his career. Unfair for Robert, but Milwaukee is likely not to assign a 40-man roster spot to Gasser until he makes his big-league debut sometime early next season, despite all the success as of late, fueled (get it, fueled?) by his greatly improved command and control. You can bet LHP Ethan Small's buddies let him know about another rough Andrew Chafin outing. I'm not a huge Owen Miller backer, but he is sucking it up and heating up. Must be killer for him to follow the red-hot exploits of his mates in Milwaukee. As always, catch the write-up linked above for all the notes (Black, Hiura, etc.) Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem checked in for this Nashville media podcast at the 26:30 minute mark here. Final: Pensacola (Marlins) 6, Biloxi 4 Via the Shuckers' site: Early Runs Too Much to Overcome in 6-4 Loss for Shuckers - Pensacola scores five early, Shuckers tally 10 hits in loss Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Wrap It'll require a deep dive into the game log to determine how the Shuckers only scored four runs. Eleven hits (including two doubles), four walks, 5-for-12 with RISP. 1B Ernesto Martinez was 3-for-4 with a double, he's up to 50 plate appearances with Biloxi and is rocking a .922 OPS. This was LHP Adam Seminaris' first non-Maryvale rehab outing since May 17th. The third piece of the Hunter Renfroe trade (Janson Junk, Elvis Peguero) did not walk or K a batter in 3.2 innings (3 ER). RHP James Meeker provided 4.1 innings of quality length. RHP Ryan Brady was the most recent pre-game audio guest on the Biloxi archived audio page. More Shuckers video via their "X" media page here. Final: Quad Cities (Royals) 9, Wisconsin 2 Via the Timber Rattlers' site: Bandits Batter Thirteen Hits to Beat Wisconsin 9-2 - Rattlers drop second straight game to Quad Cities Pre-Game Media Notes (Download Link) via the team's Virtual Press Box Box Score / Wrap Let's all agree these latest auctioned jerseys are spectacularly vivid. Bidding ends early Sunday evening. Follow up the game summary you just read and then all the video action falls in place: Would not have remembered that Jheremy Vargas has now appeared in nine games at first base this season (the first eight with Carolina), this was his first action there for the T-Rats. Darrien Miller was HBP for the 10th time in 2023 and for the 51st time in 245 pro games. Yes, that's a lot, but it's not like he's sticking his elbow out, he's just a magnet of sorts. Brock Wilken doubled and walked, Mike Boeve an RBI single as the DH. Final: Columbia (Royals) 12, Carolina 4 Bullpen Blasted Late in 12-4 Loss to Fireflies - Jesus Chirinos homered and Tayden Hall extended his hit streak to 14 games in the loss Pregame Media Notes Box Score / Wrap Tagged with the loss here (2 IP, 5 R, 3 ER), 23-year-old RHP Tyler Wehrle gets credit from this camp for plenty of solid work this season - he's pitched a pretty remarkable amount of innings out of the pen (75.2) and 23 of his 24 appearances have been in relief. At 8-6, his 14 decisions indicates he's been in tight games all season long. Every time we see the energizer bunny work of Dylan O'Rae, I'm picturing him with just another two inches and 15 pounds on his listed 5'7", 160 frame, and what that would mean. But darn if he's not something. This was his only knock in this one: That being said, let's just forget about height / weight on MiLB Player Pages. First baseman Jesus Chirinos is listed at 165 pounds. Heck, his butt and thighs weigh that much. Thank you, teams trailing the Muddies in the standings for losing again on Friday night. Go, you Maryvale Brewers! Ignore the listing of Biloxi RHP Jacob Misiorowski for tonight seen at the link below as of post time. He's being put "on pause". Have a nice Saturday, everyone! Jackson Chourio’s “mediocrity” in AA
Jim Goulart replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Don't overlook that Biloxi is fighting for a playoff spot, it'd be nice for Chourio to participate with all the teammates he's spent 2023 with. -
Bench Coach Nick Stanley is the most recent addition to the Biloxi pre-game audio site.

2023 Minor League Transaction Thread
Jim Goulart replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Please let's remember to keep all non-transaction discussion out of the Transaction Thread. It's my fault, but I tried to split all the Joe Gray discourse from last night out of here, and somehow merged the entire "Your 2023 Timber Rattlers" thread with the Transaction Thread and am now going to spend the next two hours trying to reverse that. Sigh...
