ACL Brewers Blue released C Darlin Lora. ACL Brewers Gold released CF Eduarh Colina. *** Darlin Lora was signed out of the Dominican Republic in July of 2021, and appeared in 20 games in the Dominican Complex League that summer. Lora was back on the island to open 2022 but made his way to the Maryvale complex in rather short order on June 16th. Lora posted a .627 OPS in 11 games in the desert but was then placed on the 60-day IL on August 6th. Odd defensive stats - on one hand, Lora threw out 38.2% of runners, 21 of 55. On the other hand, he committed eight errors in 27 career games behind the plate. Lora turns 20 years old in July. *** Venezuelan native Eduarh Colina was a member of the July 2019 class, but then had his 2020 campaign wiped out. Colina turns 20 this June, so his 2021 debut in the Dominican came during his age 18 season. Colina was very solid that summer, .278/.358/.383 (.741 OPS). But that didn't translate to Maryvale in 2022, .565 OPS with 53 K's in 115 AB's. Like nearly all Brewers releases of these youngest farmhands, both Lora and Colina received a second season to show their wares. Here's to fruitful futures to both.

The Sounds and Mudcats saw their Saturday contests postponed, but the Shuckers swept their own rain-caused twinbill and the Timber Rattlers cruised to cap a victory-only evening. This wasn't smoked, but it was solidly struck and we'll throw out the much-too-often-utilized "nice piece of hitting" for Jackson Chourio here: Chourio was 4-for-8 with two walks, two RBI, SB and clean defense in CF for the night. You know, you watch and follow enough Brewers farmhand journeys over the years, and you get to be pretty good at identifying "breakout seasons" as they commence. Welcome to 2023, the Breakout Campaign of 23-year-old RHP Justin Jarvis, the 5th round 2018 North Carolina high school 5th round pick. Sixth year in the system, and you can bookmark this comment, but Jarvis will be an exciting add to the 40-man roster this fall to protect him from Rule 5, and let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, but to also build up the rotation replacement depth prior to the uncertainty of the Burnes/Woodruff/Lauer/Houser contract expiration timebomb. Here's Jarvis' 2023 three-game game log stats and by the way, the final four starts he made in 2022, his first taste of AA, went pretty well overall, too. Perhaps we should have seen this coming in a larger lens in anticipation for this season. It's still so early, but this has the real feel, agree? Let's remember that SS Freddy Zamora was the 53rd overall pick in 2020. Given his injury history at the University of Miami and having played only 24 games with the Shuckers last season, Zamora had a statement doubleheader Saturday, 4-for-6, two BB's, HR. We won't throw the same breakout word yet for Freddy, but "very encouraging" seems appropriate. Twitter thread as we wipe the collective drool. Big league debut by end of May, right? Per the MiLB Transaction Log, the Brewers have released recently-turned 22-year-old RHP Pedro Rivas. If the name is not familiar to even the most diehard of prospect followers, there is a reason, as he had yet to throw a professional pitch in a regular season game. Signed out of Venezuela in December of 2019, Rivas immediately lost the 2020 Covid season, and then was subsequently placed on the 60-day IL for both 2021 and 2022. Hoping the young man can live a healthy life moving forward.

Congrats to 25-year-old RHP Nash Walters (26 next month), signed by the White Sox and assigned to AA Birmingham this week. He had been released by the Angels in spring training after making his MLB debut in the LA season finale last year.
