I've watched the Mudcats play in approximately 30 games this year. My assessment:
1. Neither Made or Pena will stick at SS - neither are pure infielders. Pena, possibly at 3B, Made is going to be an outfielder, possibly 2B. The Brewers will keep them in dirt (perceived value) but the chance of them playing SS at the highest level doesn't exist.
2. The current talent level in the Carolina league is the worst I've seen in 5 - 6 years. It'll be very interesting to see how Made, Pena and Bitonti perform in A+. I doubt they will be pushed this year.
3. There is no possible way Made is 18 years old (Dominican age fraud).
4. Bitonti is a defensive liability (There's a reason he was moved from SS to 3B and now to 1B) and his swing and miss rate against very average Low A arms is beyond alarming.
5. The Brewers waisted a 1st round pick on Braylon Payne. He can run, but that's about it. He has he arm strength of a 15 year old and the mechanics of an average softball slapper - and an unbalanced one at that - Extremely awkward movements. We could have had: Kaleen Culpepper, Slade Caldwell, Theo Gillen, Carson Benge, Tommy White. . . just to name a few. Taking Payne in the 1st round was a HUGE mistake.
6. Adamczewski is a PURE hitter. Not sure where he fits defensively but he has a real feel for the barrel.
7. I love Dinges violent approach. Enjoyed watching him play and also see him succeed in A+.
