  1. A Counsell homer here would be more shocking than Damian Miller's walk-off job on LaCrosse Day a few years back
  2. Cory Provus just said to Jerry Hairston Jr. on the pregame show that it must be interesting conversation at the Hairston family Thanksgiving. Provus must not be aware that the Hairstons are Jehovah's Witnesses.
  3. Rollie Fingers #34 by both Oakland and Milwaukee
  4. Kirk Gibson
  5. Part of the problem with making too much out of a quote like Phillips's is we don't know the question to which he was responding. If a reporter had asked, for example, "Brandon, after this weekend do you feel like the Brewers are a better team?" I would expect him to answer as he did. Anyone would have. I'm sure his answer was somehow prompted.
  6. That's what I was thinking. I'm surprised that they didn't at least wait until next week when he could instantly DH. Who's leaving? Nelson? McGahee?
  7. as per the Journal Sentinel blog. Melvin isn't confirming...but he's not denying.
  8. Billy Jo Robidoux tops the list. I remember every preseason magazine picking him as the rookie of the year for 1986. Before him Dion James was supposed to be big, but never was. In trying to come up with pitchers who fit the description I remembered Mark Ciardi. Never made it as a pitcher, but has produced some nice films (Miracle, The Rookie).
  9. My 20 pack (fan's choice) arrived today. I fully expected my seat locations to move further to the outfield this year due to both increased demand and the fact that I added two seats to my package. My expectations were indeed confirmed. My problem is this--for nine of the twenty games I got tickets in the club outfield despite paying for a club infield package. Has anyone else had this happen?
  10. If indeed it is Mr. Haudricourt, he is apparently going back on last season's vow to not post commentary beyond story updates in the comment section of the blogs.
  11. I think part of the subjectivity of this thread is determined by the rationale one uses for selection. If one were to choose an "All-Time Team," I agree with those who would go with Jenkins over Braun. My team was selected as if I were choosing a roster to go into a season with. That's why it includes Braun and Gallardo (which really emphasizes what someone else has posted--the pitching history of this franchise is sad). If we're picking the all-time team, Jim Gantner is the second baseman, no question. But based upon my chosen rationale, I am admitting a mistake and benching Gantner in order to start Molitor at 2B, Cirillo at 3B. Here's a name for loogy consideration: Jesse Orosco.
  12. For those of you who've already received your 20-game tickets, did you buy a set package or go with fan's choice? I went with fan's choice again, and if memory serves they were sent slightly later last year.
  13. Paul Molitor, 3B Robin Yount, CF Cecil Cooper, 1B Ted Simmons, C Prince Fielder, DH Ryan Braun, LF Jeromy Burnitz, RF J.J. Hardy, SS Jim Gantner, 2B Teddy Higuera, P Starters: Pete Vuckovich Mike Caldwell Ben Sheets Yovanni Gallardo (a hopeful pick) Bullpen: Rollie Fingers Dan Plesac Mike Fetters Bob Wickman Jim Slaton (also a valuable spot-starter because 3 of my starters are injury-prone) Bench: B.J. Surhoff Don Money Jeff Cirillo Ben Oglivie Gorman Thomas Darryl Hamilton
  14. "The ballot for 2013 is going to be loaded" It will actually be the ballot for 2014. A player must be retired for five seasons (09, 10, 11, 12, 13) before HOF consideration.
  15. First Jim Powell is likely leaving, and now a "presentation" sponsorship with Potowotomi Bingo Casino? According to the Journal-Sentinel, prepare to be bombarded with bingo--signage on the outfield wall and on both dugout tops, tickets, light poles in the parking lot, LED message boards...everywhere. Not to mention during the game broadcasts. We're no longer Brewers fans; we're fans of the Milwaukee Brewers presented by Potowotomi Bingo Casino. Pass the barf bag.
