  1. Agree.... Jimmy Nelson wanted to be ready for Opening Day and that didn't work out well....
  2. I took a trip down Brewerfan.net memory lane.....viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36718&hilit=sogard&start=40 I know there is still more off-season to go, but the Brewers are really rolling the dice hoping for the same performance out of the cast of signings like they have done to equal the performance of the guys we lost from last year. I mean if you read this 2018 thread, and it was fun to do, by April 29th we were looking to dump Sogard for Nate Orf or trade for Neil Walker again. We signed Sogard for $2.5M that year and now $4.5M this year and he will play a lot of 3B (per Counsell) with Gyorko most likely now on the other side of the platoon. I mean, I guess I am not excited as a fan for this platoon at all, as it is very underwhelming and Gyorko isn't the one I am worried on. It does seem that they are willing to take a step back this year with an eye on "something" else in the future, perhaps a better free agent class, prospects maturing, etc? I mean by April 29th this year, we could be screaming for the next Nate Orf to get the call up when 33 year old Nerd Power goes all 2018 again and then you have only Gyorko left? Think about coming in to 2019 with Shaw at 3B and Moose at 2B. Or even just Moose at 3B and Hiura in wings, to this now ? I remember some saying on this board that if we miss out on Grandal they would address SS instead to make up for the Grandal production there. Well we got a decent catcher to replace Grandal. If Urias is going to be the SS upgrade we got, I "guess" that is improved (if the hype is indeed true but not proven yet) but I am not sure that this 3B mix of Gyorko/Sogard performs better than what we got last year out of there. Are we improved? Tons of question marks.....and yes I am biased against Sogard from his hot 2017, terrible 2018, hot 2019, performance. What the heck do they expect from a 33 year old journeyman player with a checkered history? This team won 89 games last year...... I see way too many question marks to confidently say that they will be better than that in 2020. This signing of Gyorko doesn't answer the questions to me. If Sogard was signed to be the new Hernan Perez that would be OK with one other big 3B or 1B acquired via trade or FA signing was what I was hoping for yet, but I am starting to sense that their roster is getting closer to be set with this Gyorko signing.
  3. Heard a report on the radio driving into work this AM that David Stearns said that we shouldn't expect any Starting Pitcher signings this week for the Brewers at the Winter Meetings due to something to the effect of that "these signings" happen more nearer Spring Training. The report went on to say that they have depth in this department. Has anyone seen this written anywhere? I don't always trust sports blurbs done in 60 seconds on the radio......
  4. Or Shaw. Agree. Left handed options are a plenty for 1B especially when Hiura is ready later this year to play 2B and move Moose to 3B and Shaw to 1B if both Thames fails and Aguilar continue to struggle.
  5. Thames as 1B insurance seems probable now. Aguilar concerned me last year in the second half and now it continues.
  6. Brewers 91 Cards 89 Cubs 84 Reds 78 Pirates 75
  7. Got two tickets to Game 6 but they are OBS Section 413 row 10 seats 2-3. If the railing is the only obstruction I would think it wouldn't be that bad 10 rows up? Got on at 10AM and by 10:20 got the tickets. Wife got SRO's but declined them. Did that in 2011....never again.
  8. We share season tickets (Corporately) with another company. With that said, do all full season ticket holders get an opportunity to buy extra tickets outside of the tickets we own? In 2008 and 2011 we were able to do that- get tickets wherever the Brewers had openings prior to opening them up to the public. Is that what they are doing this year but requiring them to go through the web link like they do for other pre-season presale specials, etc? We seem to have our whole packet of tickets through the World Series in our regular seats, but wondering if this is what you all are talking about that full season ticket holders or partial season ticket holders can buy extra tickets starting tomorrow?
  9. My predictions... 2018 Brewers Season Predictions Win-Loss Record: 77-85 Playoffs: No Highest Playoff Level Achieved: None All Star Game Representative(s): Christian Yelich Offensive Player of the Year: Christian Yelich Pitcher of the Year: Josh Hader Most Surprising Player: Brent Suter Most Disappointing Player: Corey Knebel
  10. That is the point, every poster repeats himself maybe about needing more starting pitching, or that they wanted Scooter, or how we need another Shouse. We don't need to waste space calling the poster out as we tend to do more often now than the older days. So what he doesn't like Villar? The point he made has merit and I am sure the counterpoint does as well. The post in between doesn't add anything to the discussion is all.....
  11. Stop it. Stop making every damn thread about your Villar hating agenda. It is so damn tiring that every year you do this with certain players. This is exactly what has changed with this message board over the past few years- posts like these. Briggs, a long time poster, made a post that was insightful and gets told to stop it because of his "agenda." We all don't like certain players and we give opinions of that on here. Do we need to be the Police to tell him to stop posting his feelings on a subject? This post just gives his rationale for who is kept and who is vulnerable? Why do we want to "Stop it"?
  12. Excellent post Harvey! A long time reader of this forum (since Rickie Weeks was in Beloit) but a limited poster, it is nice to see a very nice well thought out post. This has become too infrequent around here lately with the repetition of posts and the lack of depth in the amount of posters on a given subject. Please bring more of this! It may be tough to accept the rotation as is, but what you say makes some sense.....rotations have replacements that are always needed and the Brewers are building depth in that area (and haven't dealt any pitching of significance to acquire anyone yet) so Woodruff and Burnes can be used to take some starts later and provide better results than Chicago's 6th or 7th's guy. We just have to hope Anderson and Davies were not major flukes and there is always concern for that and Jimmy Nelson's irregular shoulder injury gets him on the field quicker without a loss in stuff as the Good Orthopedic Doc poster suggested may be the case. If they perform well and injuries hit someone, we can grab Suter, Woodruff, Miley, or whomever is next up and pick up wins that way. The offense should give us a better chance to win more games with Cain and Yelich added and the bullpen points you made are outstanding....the Brewers pen can be filthy at the RIGHT TIMES. Heck there was a game last year against the Cubs (Guerra couldn't throw strikes and got demoted afterward) and CC went to Hader against the tough Cubs lineup and he pitched 3+ innings (if I remember) and allowed zilch. He was blowing them away. The Brewers lost the game but in a high pressure situation in the earlier part of the game, Hader shut down the Cubs and kept the Brewers close. Critical way of thinking. You need multiple bullpen aces.... Again great post!
