...so I am getting ahead of myself, but I have Brewers fever in a bad way. And on this off-day I was just contemplating being tied with the NL West division champ. ((sure sure, and all that "if the season ended today" type stuff.))

a simple google search produced:

Scenario #7: There is a two-way tie for highest winning percentage among Division winners and a tiebreaker is required to determine home field advantage in the Division Series.

If one of the Division winners tied for the highest winning percentage is from the same Division as the Wild Card:

The Division winner from the same Division as the Wild Card cannot play the Wild Card in the Division Series. The other Division winner tied for the highest winning percentage plays the Wild Card.

If neither Division winner tied for the highest winning percentage is from the same Division as the Wild Card:

A tiebreaker system will be used to determine which Division winner with the best record plays the Wild Card.

The first tiebreaker will be head-to-head competition between the two Clubs during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Clubs with the higher winning percentage in intradivision games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in intraleague games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in the last half plus one of intraleague games during the championship season. This process will be followed game-by-game until the tie is broken.

Tiebreaker 1: head to head... is a wash with, fine let's just call it, the Giants. [we went 3 - 4 against the D-Backs, so if you want a reason to follow the NL West, there you go]

Tiebreaker 2: intradivision... wouldn't you know the Crew is 28-18 against the Central and SF is 28-17 against the West... let's just say that ends up as a wash. BUT MORE REASON to value these Central battles!

Tiebreaker 3: intraleague... because the Brewers got hosed with the AL East and went 6-9 while SF went 10-5 against the AL Central... Brewers have a better NL record and get the extra game at Miller for the NLDS (no need to insert H/A splits to illustrate how valuable that is!)

and given Prince's HR in the All-Star game, that is an extra 46,000 Milwaukee fans that get to attend a World Series game too.

Regarding Tiebreaker 3, I think you may have misunderstood 'Intraleague'. Intra would mean from in the same league, i.e. the NL. If it was the record against the AL, it would be listed as 'Interleague'.

No he was correct. He was showing that if we were tied with the giants we would win the third tie breaker because they had a better interleague record. If we are tied and they have a better interleague record then we have to have a better intraleague record.
