2013 schedule is out

The Club’s 44th season in Major League Baseball will open at Miller Park for the second consecutive season. Nothing like a true Opening Day at Miller Park! The Brewers will face the Colorado Rockies on Monday, April 1 at 1:10 p.m. at Miller Park (Opening Day and April Fool’s Day will surely cause some excitement around town).

After the question of “When is Opening Day?” is asked, the next question always seems to be, “Who do we play in Interleague?” The entire look of Interleague Play will change in 2013 as the Houston Astros will move to the American League West. This will make for 15 American League teams and 15 National League teams, meaning there will be at least one Interleague series everyday of the season. The Brewers and Astros will meet at Minute Maid Park, June 18 – 20. Houston joins Milwaukee as the only MLB teams in history to switch leagues.

The Brewers Interleague schedule will feature two-game sets with the Texas Rangers, May 7 – 8 at Miller Park and August 13 – 14 in Texas. Back-to-back two-game series with the Minnesota Twins–their “prime” Interleague opponent–will take place May 27 – 28 at Miller Park and May 29 – 30 at Target Field.

Two firsts will take place for the Brewers in 2013 Interleague Play. The Oakland Athletics will make their first ever visit to Miller Park, June 3 – 5. The Brewers and Athletics have not met since the 2002 season in Oakland. The Brewers will also make their first trip to Seattle since 1997 and their first ever visit to Safeco Park to face the Mariners, August 9 – 11. The Mariners visited Miller Park in 2010 and 2004.

The Brewers will close their interleague play at Miller Park against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for a weekend series, August 30 – September 1.

Weird that the second game of the season is scheduled for 1:10 while game three is 7:10. Also of note Oakland makes their first trip to Miller Park and the Brewers make their first trip to Safeco Field. Oakland is the only team never to visit Miller Park and Safeco is the only stadium the Brewers have never played in.

I am sitting here reading and going why are the Astros bolded? Oh ya, they are in the AL West next year. I like it. Welcome to year round interleague - a welcomed change - IMO

The home-home 4-game set with the Twins should be fun. I like that format.

Overall it seems to be a favorable schedule. Having no interleague after September 1st is nice. One challenge is an extra west coast road trip to San Francisco, Seattle, and Texas in August. The schedule makers did a great job keeping everything reasonable despite the alignment changes.

For those who buy single-game tickets, it should be noted that similar to 2012, there are three price levels: blue games, gold games, and marquee games. Gold games are all Saturday and Sunday home games from May 1 to Sept. 1, excluding a pair of Pirates games in late may. Marquee games are Cubs home games and Opening Day.

I really like that they are using squeeze week for the home-and-home interleague rivarly series as well. What I don't like is the first game is a night game. A night game on Memorial Day? Lame.

Squeeze week is the week in May where every team in baseball plays two two-game series, one on Monday-Tuesday and another on Wednesday-Thursday.

This happens every year? How have I never noticed this?

Without having any idea or context ... I assumed it was referring to our series with the Angels and the inevitable small ball war that will occur...

It's been happening for the last few years, not sure when exactly it started. It's because the season is 26 weeks and each team has to play 52 series, but due to the All-Star Break they have to have one week out of the season where each team plays three series, thus squeeze week was born.

One thing that jumped out at me is the larger number of 2 and 4 game series. And days off seem to be spread out pretty evenly.
