Saw an ESPN special on the computer strike zone. The developers explained how they build a data base for each player based on actual swings. They brought it to a minor league game and were able to set zones for each player just by recording BP before the game. The reporter served as the home plate ump that night with zero experience ever doing it. There’s a light in center field that came on instantly for strikes, the ump watched that then called each pitch. They interviewed fans after and nobody had a clue it was an automated zone. Zero complaints about balls/strikes during the game from players but they knew it was being done.

It bounced and hit him in the knee.

Back to the Kratz HBP. I was watching on Gameday and according to that it was strike. Did it look like a strike on TV and did any Cubs argue about it?

Don't see how that could possibly be a strike seeing as how the pitch was a one hopper.

It'd be interesting to see if they could set this up and tell a team they were just "capturing data", and then use it for a game without telling the teams and see what the perception of the called balls/strikes were.

Must have really been short of the plate because it was on the corner at the knees according to gameday.

I mean it was a nice play and all...but hardly incredibly impressive. All it took was a strong throw semi accurate.

That being said he has been absolute trash for over a month. I hope he stays forever.

So it was actually a Real Sports episode I was thinking of. I found the trailer on YouTube. The full episode was pretty good. The guy looks like an idiot kneeling but shows the technology pretty well if you can find the full episode.

Nice job, Wade.

Sticking with our Ace in a big spot here

If you had used that word to refer to Miley back in March I would have assumed we were about 50-90.
