IMO, if you're good enough they'll fit the scheme around you.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

There are multiple roles in any scheme.  IMHO, putting the guy in the wrong role in a scheme is usually the issue, not that he doesn't fit ANY role in a scheme.

I don't know if teams draft for schematic fits as much as they simply have athletic and size thresholds for what they typically look for in particular positions. The Packers, for example, like their perimeter WRs to be at least 6'2" and 200 pounds. Toure comes close, but is a bit undersized. Watson and Doubs fit that profile, though. They don't like their O-linemen to be overly tall or heavy. Ron Wolf's CB size requirements after whiffing on Terrell Buckley were well known, and the Packers have rarely gone away from that since, except on Jaire.

Yeah, the size and athletic thresholds do tie into the scheme, but I have never thought that the Packers drafted 100% based on fitting players into their scheme. Players can learn different schemes, but you cannot create athletic ability or make a player grow out of thin air.

Man Coverage vs. Zone Coverage; 3-4 vs 4-3 OLB/DEs; Zone run blocking vs. power run

There are a few systems that some people will fit better than others, but those differences seem to have faded a bit over time.  4-3 DEs are lighter than before...3-4 OLBs might be a bit heavier now. OL all seem to be more athletic than the big, wide, can't get around you guys of the past.

At the end of the day, you can play football or can't.  I'm sure some people are up/down rated on certain boards for specific skills they do/don't have, but good coaches fit the player to the scheme.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I find it funny that for all of the squawking about drafting a TE, they brought in more tryout long snappers than drafted, undrafted, and tryout TEs combined.

They like their TE room a lot.

I'm here for the crazy year that Tyler Davis is about to put up. I'll say 55 catches for 600 yards and 8 TDs LOL

That maybe a bit too crazy for me... but I have to imagine they like the guy.  He is the only one with a semblence of being able to back up either Tonyan or Lewis.  Hoping for a good breakout year from either Deguara or Dafney, too.
