Plus by the time WC weekend rolls around Steele will be 50+ innings over his career high IP.

I did not know that. With what, 5-6 more starts scheduled? That's potentially significant.

Yeah career high was 119 last year and he’s at 144 now. 5-6 more starts and you could be 50-60 innings over his career high before the playoffs even start.

I’m not all that confident having to face Wheeler and Nola this weekend. Could be some more low scoring outputs from our offense.

3 game lead is just not enough to feel confident yet.

We are still going to have to learn to score some runs, it isn't rocket science.

The last two games are perfect examples of the fact that even with great pitching, we just aren't going to win games when it counts, against other teams with great pitching, unless we can score some freaking runs.

It's maddening.

Those losses were 1 run variety against a better offensive team that also couldn't score - both L's could have been w's with slightly better luck in situations where hard hit balls consistently turned into outs.  Wrigley can be a tough park to score in when the wind is blowing in.

Not thrilled they lost this series, but not getting swept was key - Cubs now have a road series against the Reds where Steele or Hendricks isn't pitching.

I think they will be marginally better but the 9 game run was certainly a bit "flukey" and probably not sustainable with this roster.

Hard to say if it will be good enough to hold off the Cubs.

I mean, they scored 64 runs in those nine games. The Braves or Dodgers wouldn't keep up that pace, much less us.

The attainable target for this team offensively is somewhere between that & the "This isn't a playoff team, they can't compete" whining from June & July.

Canha puts up real good ABs, he's helped win games. Santana's done the same, albeit with not quite the same consistency. And while I don't know if he'll sustain it, Tellez' ABs have been pretty impressive since he's returned. They'll be fine if the run prevention stays strong, and it was more than good enough the last three games.
