FWIW, run differential and xBA both go the way of the Brewers for the series. Brewers probably outplayed the Cubs, but baseball happens. Move on, enjoy the day off, and go after the Phillies at home.

Do you think our hitting was a 9 game fluke, or can we expect a better offense the remainder or the year?

Absolutely a fluke.

Two things stuck out to me. One, what may have cost us the game is not being able on two occasions to throw strikes to Mike Tauchman, once due to the umpire deciding not to call the edges in the bottom of the 1st. Two, Frelick came to the plate a couple times in the game w/runners on, a situation I love seeing him in. Both times, for whatever reason, he was saddled with the "Welcome to the big leagues, rookie" strike zone & was taken way out of his comfort zone. that's tough when you've never faced Hendricks before.

After the HBP to tie the game, I also would've liked to see Turang in a little more of a "pressure's on you, pitcher" mode instead of taking a ball, then swinging.

Do you guys ever tire of complaining about the umps.

I sure tire of reading about them.

I'm with ya. But the very first batter Woodruff faced, he was squeezed monumentally, and it cost a run. Other than that, I thought balls & strikes were mostly OK.

If Tyler Black can play a passable third base he should be on this team. We can't afford to keep playing Monasterio and Turang every game.

I wouldn’t put a whole lot of confidence into having a rookie that played most of the year at AA pull the Brewers through a playoff spot.

I have pretty high confidence in the Brewers pulling themselves to a playoff spot without Black. Like a 96% confidence.

We had Urias in AAA and decided to give him away because of his 5 million salary so all we have left is Black. Basically ignoring third base thinking we had enough with Monasterio and Anderson was foolish.

Improving third base should have been a priority regardless and why trading Urias was not smart.

I think people wanting to see him simply think they'd be a better team with him as another option, not as some sort of "save the season" guy. He'd be another piece. Just like Canha, Santana, and a whole bunch of regulars that won games for them over the course of the season. My biggest concern is his defense at AAA, and it's been solid.

Except Urias hasn’t even been better than Monasterio or Turang. Urias has been terrible on defense this year, which is likely why they traded him.

Post game

McCalvy “ So, you are 5-5 against the Cubs this year……close run differential in the games…….does it feel like you’re evenly matched?”

CC “ No it feels like we’re 3 games up”

Love CC …….😎

We can't always go with defense no matter the cost to the offense. Monasterio and Turand are both bad hitters.

Urias hasn’t been a good hitter either this year.

And I'm pretty sure the over-riding number that compelled the trade wasn't 5 million. More like .145.

He's also cooled off quite a bit after his Sportscenter Highlight moments.

Against a hated rival too. Bummer. But there are 29 games left to play. Gotta keep winning.

Another way to look at it:

If we had lost the first 2 and won today, we'd still be in the exact same position, even though we might feel a little better about "avoiding the sweep" and "ending with momentum" or some such thing. Just win the next one!

We're talking about the Cubs here, not the Braves or the Dodgers.  Just win the next one!

Maybe I’m in the minority but I still think the division race is coming down to the final weekend. If the teams are tied or within one game of each other it will be a best of 3 to win the division,

I REALLY don’t want to see the Brewers play the Cubs in the wild card playoff round.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

true. especially when our top 2 hurlers pitched great against them but we lost anyway. DANG!!

I need to go read a book and forget about baseball for a day.

Yep…..it’s the way good organizations make decisions…….based on his play this year….both in the majors and in the minors……they came to the conclusion that Urias wasn’t likely  to help them this season…..and since they weren’t going to offer him arbitration after this horrible year……they decided to move him for a minor league pitcher they liked with upside, options and years of cheap control should he make it.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed.

I'll take the same performance from Burnes & Woodruff against them--or anyone else--every time & take my chances.

I'd be all for it

A bit unfortunate with the hitting, I'd give brewers the edge still

Underlying metrics were better this series, just didn't get hits in the right spots.

Baseball giveth and taketh away, but I'd still be feeling confident

Yep. A long-term investment by the front office. Blalock has a lot of upside but we won't know how much for a while.

Honestly, I think looking at underlying metrics in the context of a single game takes the fun out of the game.

Getting hits in the right spots and making defensive plays in the right spots are a significant part of the game.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
