Brewers Minor League Link Report (3/30): LOB & RISP Ugly Thus Far

Everything is magnified in the very first games of a new season, especially when a team is seeking its initial win. The Nashville Sounds are now 2-for-23 with runners in scoring position after two games, stranding 20 runners overall after consecutive 4-2 defeats. Easy to see where if not nipped in the bud on Sunday, the frustration level on the evening flight home to Nashville will be high, higher than if the tough results landed on a random series of games in mid-June.

TRANSACTIONS:

 

• RHP Cameron Wagoner placed on High-A Wisconsin's full-season injured list
• RHP Tanner Shears placed on High-A Wisconsin's full-season injured list
• LHP Robert Gasser placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list
• INF Christian Arroyo placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list

We discussed Shears in yesterday's report. Disappointing to learn of Wagoner's status, but this is pro baseball in 2024. Get used to news on pitcher pain, and it's obviously not just an issue for the Brewers' organization.

At what point do we wonder if Tyler Black is nursing something, or whether Manager Rick Sweet is unsure of a defensive development plan for Black. He DH'd again here.

Four of the nine Sounds hits went for extra bases, though none left the yard.

We're thirsting for Brewers farmhand video, but all we have from Saturday's road game are Evan McKendry pitches that weren't in ideal locations in the early innings - line-drive double, then a home run yank.

Outside of backup catcher Nick Kahle, the two bench bats who were idle for this one are both switch-hitters, OF/INF Isaac Collins and newcomer OF Chavez Young.

This series is a three-game set, and then the routine of "Monday's off, followed by six-game series" commences when the Sounds host St. Paul (Twins) beginning Tuesday.
