Feel free to move this, but I am not sure people read the Issues thread regularly. I went to LMG's PackerChatters website and someone has hacked their EZBoard and turned their posts into garbage. Not sure if there is anything else you can do to protect, but just a heads up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif

PackerChatters.com actually uses phpBB, not ezBoard. phpBB is an open source software, meaning anyone on the street can look at the source code and look for vulnerabilities. I'm guessing there were (or will be) several phpBB forums hacked.

This probably does belong on the Issues or Off Topic forums, but I have no problem with the topic showing up here as it gets more attention.

 

The upside of open source software is that that it becomes possible to have an unlimited number of 'watchdogs' who can spot vulnerabilities and make them public very quickly. These 'watchdogs' are also able to offer fixes. Examples would be any of the software from Mozilla, Open Office, etc.

Brewerfan.net is built on a large number of open-source frameworks. The problem is when your entire system IS one open-source product, you leave yourself at the mercy of hackers.
