Well said. Gomez has more talent than anyone on the roster. Lock him up now. He was rushed by the Mets in the same way Rickie Weeks was rushed. Many people who are hard on Gomez were hard on Weeks also.
Getting Gagne instead of Valverde was the right move. Valverde isn't that much cheaper or better that it would be worth giving prospects for him. If Gagne stays healthy he helps them win this year and they take the two picks when he signs with another team next year.
I like your thinking tigerbrew. The thought of Weeks,Fielder,Hardy,Hart,Hall,Braun, with Milledge under Brewer control would be a talented core matched by no other team.
Internally, New York has talked about the possibility of adding Dontrelle Willis. Could they flip Humberto Sanchez and Melky Cabrera to Florida? Would that be enough? Bill James projects Cabrera to hit .285/.351/.411 as a 22 year-old. On top of that, James's panel of experts ranked him as the fourth best defensive LF in the game. As for Sanchez, George King confirmed his availability. ZiPS projects a 4.42 ERA for him next year.
Stats or no stats. Doug Davis has been released by two AL teams and misses his spots by more than any pitcher Ive seen. He struck out a lot of batters last year because he faced alot of batters. Watching a pitcher with poor stuff and poor control is torture. Freddy Garcia is by far better. It would be fun to ask some scouts who they prefer. I have a feeling it would be hard to find one for Davis.
