  1. I'd say Marcum. However, if Grienke gets hot in the end of the season, or was dominant in the playoffs, I'd choose him. The truth is, I'd probably support Yo for game 7 if he had a 0.5 ERA in the postseason. I guess I ride the hot hand. Right now, it's Marcum.
  2. And there is your winner. Thanks for playing.Second.
  3. Opinions and statements are being attributed to me that I haven't made and, frankly, don't believe in. Did I say that Gamel is a lost cause? No. I said that his replacement of Fielder is not going to result in overall team improvement, and that I am not thrilled with his numbers in limited action. Did I say that I want the Brewers to pay Prince $20M? No. I don't want them to pay anyone that money. It isn't realistic for their market. The fact that he will not be getting that money is my basis for thinking that no one will be getting it, because where better to spend it? There will be some money shuffled around as extensions are granted and contracts end, but I have strong doubts that whatever changes will result in a better team. To quote Funketown: "his production won't be as difficult to replace (or nearly replace) as many think". He didn't use the word journeyman, but the implication of "near replacement" done easily is that that players close to his level are plentiful. Sorry if my use of the term "journeyman" upset you, Hi. Finally, to answer a question from cwolf2012, no, I didn't expect Esco's bat to be good. But based on a lot of hype, I did expect an amazing defensive SS, which we did not see. That was supposed to be the mature part of his game, and after a couple of months, it started to become clear that it wasn't as mature as we had all thought. As a note to those who are passionate on the other side of this topic, thanks. I truly want to know how the team could possibly improve by losing Prince. I still don't buy it, but I do like to know that there are glimmers of hope out there I can latch on to.
  4. Prince is a player that the Brewers have paid their dues on. He is a mature, respected hitter and the rest of the league fears him. Why do you think he laughs at $20M a year? There is no realistic scenario where he leaves and the Brewers get better. So many people here take it as gospel that his offense can be approximated by any "journeyman" and that his defense is a given upgrade as soon as he clears out his locker and dons the pinstripes. If that's true, I posit that we had that before he ever reached the majors. Lyle Overbay (disclaimer, huge Overbay fan) was a consistent doubles hitter with above-average defense. Why didn't we just trade away Prince when we already had the ideal? To those who say that we get better by intelligently using his raise: news flash, the Brewers payroll isn't going up by $15M next year. The reason Prince isn't staying is because the Milwaukee payroll is maxed out. There is no raise that will be better used on your moneyball gems. What he doesn't make in 2012 will be used to retain McGehee, or Greinke, or Marcum. Finally, the Gamel argument: from what I have seen, why does anyone want him in the show? He isn't the prospect he once was, and his major league numbers have been a joke. I respect that the sample size is small, but even if he will ever develop to the level of journeyman respectability, it won't be soon. You want to hurry up and start paying dues on the next guy who will leave if he's any good? Why not just keep the big star for our last real shot for a while?
  5. RockCoCougars, you can only find the pre-season because that's the only thing that's happened so far. They are posted from a time warp where Twitter exists in 1982. Also follow 1987 for the most exciting April ever.
  6. I searched.. please forgive me if this has already been posted to the forums. In case it hasn't... many here will really enjoy this. http://twitter.com/TweetsFrom1982 Here's a writeup: In the world of fringe sportswriting, there is brilliant, and then there is “Tweets from 1982.” The account is re-living 1982 from a Milwaukee Brewers fan’s perspective. On Feb. 8, for instance, it noted the release of pitcher Reggie Cleveland (who was released by the Brewers on Feb. 5, 1982). On Valentine’s Day, the account said that “this year’s” packs of Topps cards will arrive in stores in two weeks. Even Brewers closer John Axford thanked the account for tweets from one year before he was born. It’s still unclear who will enjoy this Twitter account more—Brewers fans, nostalgia freaks or SABR members—but if its beginnings are any indication, this might be an account worth following, just for the joy of looking back at a season where the Brewers, then in the American League, (SPOILER ALERT!) lost the World Series in seven games to St. Louis.
  7. Actually, this has only occurred 48 times in baseball history. Technically more rare than a no-hitter. Count it!
  8. I wonder: is there statistical evidence that McGehee provides protection for Prince, getting Fielder more good pitches? I was reading another thread when protection came up as a quantifiable stat. Does the middleman in a murderers row such as Braun-Fielder-McGehee both provide and receive protection?
  9. I think Braun's defense will decline every year, but he still has a long way to go before becoming Carlos Lee. It won't happen during his current contract.
  10. Overpaid: Gregg Zaun, Corey Hart, Trevor Hoffman Underpaid: George Kottaras, Ryan Braun, Todd Coffey Who's on your list?
  11. endaround, if you're going to discuss something as important as percentage of shift in 2010 vs. percentage of shift in 2009 (same timeframe assumed), please provide numbers.
  12. Is this the Jenkins catch? http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/82d258f9398235adae6ed8c93ed9808ae762108.jpg
  13. I don't have photo evidence of this, but in Friday's game, in the pinstripes, I thought he looked a lot like Yount with his beard and blond mullet sticking out in back. I said it out loud to someone at the time, so I feel obligated to post since this thread magically appeared.
