  2. Clancy.... As is common, you provoke commentary. It makes me laugh - it's not contrarian - it's just your own work product that doesn't follow groupthink. I always appreciate your insight since nobody is always right or wrong. You were high on Brent Suter when nobody else thought his weak-armed 88 mph fastball (improved since then) translated to anything. Suter has outperformed all expectations. You were right on other guys as well, in a similar, controversial fashion. I'm not saying Hummell is going to be a player - I don't know. But I sure admire your willingness to reshuffle the deck and offer a wildcat viewpoint, which I believe you enjoy. Keep it up.
  3. My wife and I go to Vegas 2 or more times a year for a dozen or more years. Stay in the Tower Suites at the Encore (newer tower of the Wynn). Love it. If your wife is interested in seeing Zumanity, jump on it. It's a sexy, naughty show. It's "cirque-based," but is R-rated. Very naughty and seductive. We've seen it four times and love it. We've seen Absinthe even more times - love that show also. It's in a tent, but it's cool and feels really old-school. There is not a bad seat in the house. We have been in the front row the last three times - almost no advantage to that and some of the acts would benefit from a seat more towards the back (very small venue). Absinthe is great. Very naughty - politically incorrect. You need to be able to handle that. Zumanity is totally different....seductive, naughty, sexy and funny. If your wife is game - do that. It's more of a "date night" kind of event. Of the "normal" cirque shows, we like Le Reve at Wynn, and then Michael Jackson. If you like classic rock music, go see Raiding the Rock Vault. Can't miss....only disappointment is they end after 90 minutes. All former members of major bands that come together as a cover band. Was just there again a couple weeks ago. It's moving from Hard Rock to Rio as the Hard Rock is closing for a year to become a new Virgin Hotel.
  4. Link reports are part of my morning routine for five months or so - and please accept our gratitude for all the excellent work in advance. I'm sure I'll thank you two or three times during the season as well. It's really a great feature appreciated by all.
  5. Obviously the front office has earned my respect - as has CC. But it's my opinion that we don't have enough pitching. I think we are at least one solid starter short and a reliever as well now that Knebel is done (and who knows about JJ). In any event, I am concerned about pitching. I liked the scenario where we had 8 or 9 guys who could start - you need more than five over the course of the season and we finally had some quality depth. We're counting on using that depth in the rotation - I don't feel good about what happens when some of the guys don't perform. I thought a guy like Gio or Miley would be a solid, middle of the rotation kind of guy you could count on. In any event - I hope I'm wrong.
  6. Interesting and fun stat: The Padres have spent more on free agency this offseason than they have in the past 25 years combined.
  7. I don't get the love for Brice Turang. Everything I read profiles his defense to be good, decent hit tool but no power. If that's his expectation, the majors seems to be littered with guys like that - good defensive shortstops with little power. Am I misreading what to expect?
  8. Always lurking....love your style. Don't always agree, but your passion and energy to prove you point is energizing.
  9. Clancy is always mining his nuggets. Love it.
  10. I agree with Joey Meyer's position about Bumgarner playing on a non-competitive team. I could see Bumgarner having a big bounce-back year on a competitive team - kind of like the change of scenery benefiting Justin Verlander in Houston.
  11. Sad - hope he gets it figured out. The Zack Braddock reference reminded me how high I was on him. Fireballing lefty as I recall - kind of a "Josh Hader - lite." Rocketed up the minors - pitched in the bigs briefly and then disappeared. The storyline was something about "not being able to sleep" and "always late," but the underlying issue was obviously something greater. They didn't send him down to figure it out - he just disappeared. Under the same subject of disappearing, it reminds me of the incredible situation with Angel Salome.
  12. Mass....thanks again to you and the others who manage these threads. I've been coming here everyday during baseball season for almost 15 years. I really appreciate all you do - it makes Brewers baseball fandom even better. For each person that thanks you, there is 100 more that don't take the time. We are grateful.
  13. Rosenthal reporting the return was "quite a bit more" than the return for Stanton or Ozuna.
  14. I'm guessing they received word that surgery is required due to the fact that in the article where they announced he's out for the year that they are going to get several second opinions since they have time. Why search for a second opinion unless the news is worst-case. My wife is an MD who specializes in sports medicine and she said this is not a definitive surgery - depends on how back the tear looks on an MRI, which of course we are not privy to. Here's to hoping he doesn't miss 2018 now as well.
  15. This makes me nostalgic for the days of the weekly Power 50. I don't know how Toby made the time but we surely enjoyed it. I saw he gave us a Top 100 this time around. Thanks to everyone who is contributing. It's a fun list to review. It's been a long time since they've had so much organizational depth - maybe they've never had this kind of depth before.
  16. Yes - Colby - I too want to thank you. Great summary of how things are beginning to shape up.
  17. I know what you mean. Example - why is James Kaprielian - the 16th pick in the draft rated #57 in the league last year - suddenly higher ranked than the #3, #6, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13, #14 and #15 picks? How'd that happen? Was it the the amazing workload he had after the draft - all 18 innings pitched? Or perhaps it was because of the strained flexor muscle in his forearm. Or maybe it was simply because he was a Yankee. One of the funniest posts I've read in awhile.
  18. For an organization that needs to draft and develop talent better than bigger market teams to be competitive - they always seem to be the last one in the musical chairs of minor league affiliations.
  19. Thank you for all the excellent work you and others do in the minor league forum. It's been my "go to" spot every morning for more than a decade now. Thank you.
  20. So 3 of our top 6 are the new guys. Very good work. Though I have no idea how Corey Ray is our third best. What is awesome is how quickly the system has been rebuilt. Looking at the Top 10 and when they were acquired: 1. Arcia: 2010 (#13 in MLB) 2. Brinson: 2016 (#21) 3. Ray: 2016 (#35) 4. Hader: 2015 (#43) 5. Ortiz: 2016 (#63) 6. Bickford: 2016 (#65) 7. Clark: 2015 (#74) 8. Phillips: 2015 (#76) 9. Lara: 2014 10. Diaz: 2016 We all know these lists are fluid, Lopez for example is no longer a top 100 prospect, but man that is cool. Total indictment of the horrid drafting and acquisition of the prior 7 years.
  21. There is no way I am the only one here who was expecting this exact post... I'm amused by the catfighting. I think we did okay today - wish the market would have gotten superhot for Lucroy but it simply did not - that's not Stearns fault. That's a headscratcher. Injuries and poor performance broke Milwaukee's way and it still did not superheat the market. Overall - we add a bunch of talent. The bigger issue for this franchise is to draft better - be even a top 10 team in drafting and developing talent. Milwaukee's failure in this way has had a huge impact on the state of the franchise and we're all expect a few trades by the new guy to make it all good. This is a long march - we need to improve many aspects of player acquisition and development. We took a step in the right direction today.
  22. Some way to break a 41 game hitting streak. Sheez.
  23. In my best Aaron Rodgers voice, R - E - L - A - X. If there are truly five or so bidders, and the only one with names in media is the Mets - and the package is far less than what people would normally expect - we can logically conclude this is a Mets leak. Perhaps they are leaking this to try to demonstrate to their fans they are working to try to improve the club, even if they can't swing a trade. They just don't match up well with Milwaukee. I think Stearns is quietly going about this business professionally and he'll be traded somewhere other than the Mets. There are no other Milwaukee leaks and none of the Rangers, Cleveland, Boston, etc. I think he ends up in one of those places. This flailing about in the media just looks bad for the Mets. So I suggest we relax and wait for the details or some legitimate leaks about a real trade. If Flores or any other Met starts crying on the field tonight, I'll get concerned.
  24. That was kind of my point in assessing the rumored trade. Nimmo hasn't done much in his career that makes me think he's a difference maker.
  25. The catcher is decent but always injured and controllable for three more years only. I don't get the love for Nimmo. His floor seems high but not his ceiling. This doesn't seem like the kind of trade Stearns would make. Neither guy seems like they have impact potential.
