  1. Does this mean the Sox may now be more willing to part with Carp or Napoli for any reason?
  2. One summer I dated a girl named Julie who I met through a friend named Laura, then dated a different girl named Laura while being semi-stalked by a different girl named Laura, and then dated yet a different girl named Julie. That's 2 Julies and 3 Lauras. It was so confusing.
  3. I've done more gardening with flowers and native plants than vegetables, but have been gardening for a while now and really enjoy it. As far as veggies (primarily tomatoes and hot peppers), I always have better luck starting the seeds outside...transplanting seedlings never works as well. And I buy little tomato plants, not seeds...they're pretty cheap and really take off of you plant them right. The tomatoes and peppers love it hot., the tomatoes love water. Of course, general gardening basics = lots of sun, well-drained soil, use lots of compost. You mentioned Growing Power - that place kicks butt. Have you heard of Sweetwater Organics? Stemming from GP that's a cool aquaculture/aquaponics operation...something I'd love to start small scale here in Mount Horeb. Have you considered a rain garden? Cool option for a flower garden that is low maintenance and is good for reducing stormwater runoff from your roof or driveway. If you have any questions, let me know- Good luck!
  4. Very interesting, thanks everyone. Knew I could count on this site yet again. I guess what I take from this is that I was remembering a jersey that doesn't exist. And now I wish there were an old jersey with block "MILWAUKEE" on the front...
  5. I somehow have it in my head that an early version of the Brewers uniform had "Milwaukee" in plain block letters on the front, but I can't find a picture or image of it anywhere. It must have been after the 1970 version shown here (from Wikipedia): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/14/Al_1970_milwaukee.png And it was probably before the 1975-76 versions: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/49/Al_1976_milwaukee.png Am I remembering a jersey that didn't exist? That's entirely possible, but if not I'd love to track one down. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
  6. I have a Therma Base fleece, size Large that is the largest "Large" I have ever seen. I love the thing but don't ever wear it because it fits like a XL. Ideally I'd love to trade it for the same thing, size Medium. But I'd trade for something of similar value. The fleece I have is a few years old but looks like new. The attached picture is the current version on mlb.com and looks almost the same as mine. I'll consider all offers. Go Brewers! http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-6475393dt.jpg
  7. Maybe Trenni and Vasgersian will hook up at the MLB Network and have a child that will grow up to be the best Brewers announcer ever...
  8. You got it Gopher. I wonder if it's generally easier for MLBers to pick up a curve or change off the pitcher's hand....meaning, if a curve is easier to pick up because of the spin, than a change would be a great pitch to have, even if thrown infrequently. Think about pitchers like Wise who used it exclusively, without much else, to be effective.
  9. Really? Man, I gotta believe he could have found a grip that would allow him to control it by now. Maybe he has.
  10. OK, I like to think I understand a lot about the game of baseball. Maybe I don't. I thought learning a fastball and a changeup was key to a successful little league player. I came to know that was true after coaching 13-16 year-olds for 5 years. And, after actually playing baseball for years, I know how devastating a good fastball/changeup can be (helps to have a 2-seam AND a 4-seam FB, but you get the point). And, not being the most talented pitcher, I found it relatively easy to learn a changeup. And it was very effective given my horrible fastball. So I can't help but scratch my head when I see this from milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com: "Sheets surrendered his first runs of the season in the first inning of Saturday's start in New York, but he retired 18 Mets in a row at one point and surrendered only one more run. He threw as many as 10 changeups and four or five outs came from that pitch, giving Sheets a potentially dangerous complement to his fastball and curveball." Didn't he have a changeup before? Did it really take him (and coaches) until now to get him throwing a changeup to compliment that fastball and curveball? Please tall me I'm missing a crucial detail and I'll humbly shut up. But if not, WHY didn't he develop this changeup way before now???
  11. That picture of Gagne makes him look like a magician. He could be on the cover of Poof with that pic (any Arrested Development fans here?)
  12. Frank Catalanotto is a guy I've liked for years. He's no Spring chicken at 33, but has a good OBP, plays LF, and only made $3.5M this year. Seems like a perfect fit for what the Brewers are looking for this off-season. I don't know what his contract status is, and I don't know if the Rangers have a bullpen arm for us, but their starting pitching looks like it could use a Bush/Capuano/Vargas type. I didn't have the time to research and come up with a full proposal, so maybe someone can finish the job for me. I'm curious what it would take to get Catalanotto + bullpen help (is Otsuka healthy/available?) from Texas. I'd also like to hear other reasons the Brewers would or wouldn't want FC.
  13. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Thank God the wife is somewhat of a clean freak, she does a good job keeping all the hair in check. Good ol' fashioned vacuuming a minimum of once per week did the trick, but we went through TONS of bags. So we recently bought a Dyson bagless on Woot.com and voila! No more bag issues. Just yesterday she said she emptied the Dyson cannister 5 times while vacuuming the house, and our house isn't that big. The filters that thing uses leave the place smelling really fresh - our bagged vacuum could smell like pet hair and something I can't describe. I often look at those Roombas and just figure they'd fill up too fast. That, and they'd probably freak out the animals. Not having owned one, I can't say for sure though. Maybe they work great. Also, brushing the animals outside really helps. I should do it every day, but I don't. Good luck, and may the hair NOT be with you!
  14. I think any deal to bring in a bat, especially an outfielder, needs to involve one or more of the following being shipped out: Jenkins, Clark, Gross, or Mench. That is aside from shipping out Hardy and Carlos V. and moving Hall to short, if that is indeed what we're talking about. Gwynn is likely at AAA for most of the year, regardless of the OF logjam. I'll stay away from the Hall to 3rd option (which I prefer) to keep this thread on track. The problem with trading Hardy is that he needs a full season healthy to show what he can do and get some decent trade value. Which, I believe the popular opinion is that he'll do quite well if he stays healthy. If that happens, do you trade him now that he has value? I say keep him as a cheap, talented young SS. I think the Brewers need to let a healthy JJ and Rickie entrench themselves in the middle infield. You could argue switching Hall and Weeks at 2B-CF. Or you could argue Hall to 3B, some combo of Gross/Hart/Clark in CF, hoping Hart plays full time 'tween CF and one of the corners. THEN, to get back to your trade for a bat (sorry for the rambling): You're left without Hardy in the trade, but Carlos V., one or 2 of our 'extra' OFs, and maybe you add a pitching prospect to get the coveted bat. I don't have enough baseball knowledge of other teams' needs and who matches up well with the Crew. Does anyone know of a team out there that could use a quantity for quality type deal like this? Sorry if this post rambles. I usually lurk here and am amazed at many of the well-thought-out and well-written posts, especially the ones who keep the thread on topic. Thanks for all the great posts everyone, and thanks to Brian and Brewerfan.net for this site. I'd say it's like crack to me, but I have never done crack.
  15. Ohmyholylord. ThankGod. Now I have a tiny twang of hope going into next week!
