  1. Please be advised that the Commissioner's Office and the Players Association have agreed to amend the Major League Rules in advance of this year's Rule 4 Draft with respect to players-to-be-named-later ("PTBNLs") under Rule 12(e)(2), and the trading of draft picks under Rule 3(b)(6). ...commencing with players eligible for the 2015 Rule 4 Draft, (a) players selected in the Draft may be traded beginning on the day following the conclusion of the World Series, and (b) drafted players cannot be PTBNLs unless they otherwise could be traded pursuant to Rule 3(b)(6), as amended, at the time of the trade.
  2. Aoki would provide the Tigers an offensive upgrade in LF and insurance at all three OF positions, but the top two in their lineup is set with Jackson and Hunter. Aoki would likely hit in the bottom third of their order.
  3. From 2006-2012, the Brewers failed to reach .500 three times. In those three years, they ranked 25th, 27th, and 26th in the MLB in ERA. ERA isn't a tell-all pitching stat, but a decent indicator of the quality of your pitching staff. With last year's position players all returning from a team that was in playoff contention until the last week of the season and a 2012 pitching staff that ranked 22nd in ERA, an MLB average ERA this year should put them in the thick of the playoff race.
  4. There were no tax implications for me. The cost to the Brewers ended up being less than the taxable amount of $600.
  5. Sure, it was the Party in the Clubhouse. As described by the Brewers: Host a party for you and 19 guests during the offseason in the visitor's clubhouse, catered by DNC Sportservice. I really enjoyed it. It also included a guided tour of Miller Park. It looks like they may have replaced it with another giveaway this year.
  6. I have a pair of 20-pack tickets and won one of the prizes two offseasons ago. They contacted me several days before they announced it on their website. From there, I worked with my ticket rep and another ticket rep to organize the event (since it didn't have to be on a specific date). It is a legitimate fan giveaway.
  7. Bowden is reporting the deal is 1 yr/2.25M plus incentives. I like it.
  8. $5.7 guaranteed per Haudricourt
  9. Per Morosi: Tom Gorzelanny's deal with #Brewers will be worth close to $6MM over two years, source says.
  10. They non tendered him because he was going to make more next season than they wanted to pay. That not the same as Washington thinking he wasn't worth what he made last season. I find it hard to believe he would not get at least a small raise as a free agent lefty who can both start or relieve. Maybe not as much as he would have got in arbitration but more than the $3 million he made last season. I'd guess around $8 million or so. Right, I added in the $3 mil for a reference point. If Washington didn't think he was worth 1 yr/2.8 mil or so (MLB Trade Rumors projected the $2.8 mil figure on 10/29/12) that he would have gotten in arbitration in 2013, I have a hard time believing Melvin thought he was worth 2 yr/10 mil. That second year is key too.
  11. 2 yrs at $10 mil? He was non-tendered after making $3 mil last year. I was assuming closer to $5-6 mil.
  12. Sounds like the Rays were considering non-tendering him, and may have had a deal in place with the Brewers prior to last night's non-tender deadline. He's not outstanding, but should be a solid middle reliever. EDIT: Per Haudricourt, Melvin just confirmed the deal was put together last night
  13. Not too earth shattering, but Rosenthal is reporting that the Brewers, Red Sox, and Angels are expressing interest in Dempster, who is seeking a three-year deal. Dempster would be about 6th or 7th on my FA SP wish list.
