  1. Stephen Hawking might be better in the outfield than Brad Nelson. Manny Ramirez will win a Gold Glove before Brad Nelson is even considered mediocre.
  2. On the Braves website, their beat writer speculated that the Braves could possibly bring back Maddux, and mentions that the Padres probably wouldn't ask for any of the Braves top five prospects. If that's the case, Gwynn for Maddux straight up could be had.
  3. As far as his fielding ability goes, Nelson is a 1B, nothing else.
  4. Liability defensively? Gamel makes Braun look like Brooks Robinson. If we weren't overloaded with outfielders in the minors, Gamel would already have been moved.
  5. One thing to keep in mind is that as a player in the middle of a multi-year contract, Vazquez could demand a trade after the season if he is traded. Which is exactly how he ended up with the White Sox in the first place.
  6. The point I'm trying to make is everyone seems to think firing Yost will be a cure-all that will immediately propel us into a 50-game winning streak and mark the start of our inevitable march to the World Series. It wouldn't be. It would be a sign from management that they are throwing in the towel on the season. If Yost is fired, expect Sheets, Kapler, Counsell, Cameron, Kendall and just about the entire bullpen to be traded before the end of July.
  7. Since the 1970 season, a manager has been replace mid-season 168 times. 12 of those teams made the playoffs. In the wild card era (1995 on), 39 managers have been replaced mid-season. 3 of those teams made the playoffs (one of those being Tommy Lasorda's last season with the Dodgers). Yes the 2003 Marlins won the World Series after making a mid-season managerial switch, but, again, that's the exception, not the rule.
  8. I'd just like to point out that the Brewers were 7-4 with Fielder/Braun, and are 9-14 with Braun/Fielder. Maybe that was something that should be revisited. No. Wait. That would be admitting that Yost had the idea correct at the beginning of the season in regards to the lineup. That can't be allowed to happen. Because Yost is dumber than a monkey, right?
  9. I notice very few have a serious answer to the question. That's probably because they can't come up with an idea that works. It's just "get rid of Yost" with no real thought whatsoever on who would replace him. Kremblas won't be named; they're not going to disrupt the coaching staffs in the middle of the season on two levels of the organization. There are indications that if Yost leaves, Simmons leaves. Going outside of the organization in the middle of the season doesn't make sense. That leaves who? Maddux? Bil Castro? I agree that if the Brewers don't make the playoffs this year, Yost should be gone. But replacing a manager in the middle of the season rarely works ('82 is an exception not the rule).
  10. Instead of comparing 1 through 5, similar pitchers should be compared. Aces: A healthy Sheets (oxymoron?) is better than Zambrano Hot shot youngster: Gallardo much better than Hill Veteran innings-eater: Suppan vs. Lilly? I'll take Suppan. I think Lilly pitched so far over his head last season that I'm amazed his head didn't explode from lack of atmospheric pressure. I'll take Bush over Dempster/Leiber/Marquis Parra/Villanueva? Youngsters are hard to predict. But I'd still rather have them over Dempster/Leiber/Marquis. I think the press is really undervaluing the Brewers. Offensively we're much better. There's only two of their position players that I'd take over our starters (Ramirez and Soto). The bullpen revamp has gone extremely well (key being Gagne's ability to close games).
  11. I think it's a given that he would be sent to the minors for a couple of rehab starts.
  12. I despise that I have to pay for content on their website.
  13. It seems to me that the choice will be between sending Parra to AAA or sending Villanueva to AAA. I don't see them putting Bush or either of the youngsters in the bullpen.
