  1. It's raining pretty good here in Philly. My crew is already scrambling to rearrange tailgating plans. We'll see if the game gets rained out or not. If it does get rained out, I suppose it would mean an extra day of rest for Hamels. But more importantly (and annoyingly), it would be the second Brewers road game I've attended this year that was canceled because of rain. There's really something to be said about the roof at Miller Park (even though it's not perfect).
  2. I'm in Philly and I wouldn't call this series "under the radar." It's a big deal. When I wore my Brewers shirt to grad school today, I got some comments. Sure, there are the requisite articles in the Inquirer about T.O., but people here know what's on the line. I'll be at 3 games this weekend (Fri, Sat., Sun.) wearing Brewers gear. The UW Alumni Association Chapter in Philly has an outing at CBP tomorrow, so we'll be represented.
  3. At this point, que sera, sera. What will be, will be. But he's losing value by the day...Stark was totally right about that. CC's next scheduled start is Tueday, and I'd like to see a deal before that.
  4. True, my fantasy league this year had a long debate about even using Wins as a stat. I'd guess that CC's numbers would likely mirror Sheets' posted above. I just don't know if it's worth it...I really think LaPorta is going to be a stud in the Majors and we'll have him under contract for a lot longer.
  5. To move back to CC... The Crew has 76 games left this season, a number getting smaller by the day. Assume the trade gets pulled off tomorrow. That gives Sabathia roughly 15 starts for the Crew. Pick your stat: this year, CC's winning % is about 43%, but he's about 60% for his career. By my math, that means adding CC, presumably without trading any major-league starting talent, could net the Brewers between 6 to 9 wins out of him. How much more is that than the guys we have right now? As I see it (based on the same range - 1st number is career win % x 15 starts left; 2nd number is season win % x 15 starts left): Sheets - 8-12 wins Suppan - 7-8 wins Bush - 5-7 wins Parra - 11-12 wins (beware small sample size for winning %) McClung - 6-9 wins So basically, getting CC Sabathia pushes Bush back to the pen (or McClung, but likely Bush). Is that increase of a few wins worth trading a guy who looks like he'll hit the crap out of the ball in the Show and might take over for Prince (if/when he leaves) someday? I don't think so. Getting CC is a sexy pick. There's a lot of buzz generated, it shows that we're serious about winning NOW and CC's numbers in terms of winning % might jump - the Brewers are a better team than the Tribe. I just don't like putting all that on the table when I think that we're a talented club with A TON of games left against NL Central teams to make a push. RU rah rah might be right - sometimes the best deals are the ones that don't happen. It seems like this one is going to though, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't get excited if it went down.
  6. I'll be there Friday and can't wait. Free tix courtesy of my sister and some Coastie she knows from school in OH (I'm in Philly, I mean "Coastie" in the best possible way). No clue where our seats are, just look for the guy wearing a white-and-blue pinstriped Fielder jersey with a ball-and-glove logo hat (probably hammered).
  7. Agreed, cerveceros. Great idea by the MLB scheduling a bunch of these Crew-Cubs games at Wrigley in March and August. Brilliant! At least we get to host them to end the season, which is nice.
  8. I was at the Hendrickson game, and this isn't that bad. And sheetswannabe, I remember that comeback...anything can happen! Still have a lot of AB's left, and a lot can happen. Last night was the bigger game, anyways. Worst-case scenario? Put it behind and get to listen to the game in the afternoon tomorrow.
  9. acwilber, I have a friend in journalism who has relayed the same story to me about the elbow and sort of "retaliatory benching." I'm sure glad he came up when he did, though. I met Braun at our Chicago hotel last year during the June Cubs series. He took the time to say hi, shake my hand, and say thanks for the well-wishes. Seemed pretty humble to me. But I do love it when he come sup to bat and "Superstar" is playing. It's even better than "Go Getta" last season.
  10. I don't want to jinx anything, but I think Bennie could go the distance in this one.
  11. 2 words: Public Transportation. Tall buildings, unlimited options, and late business hours are all pluses too, but when I moved to Philly, the fact that there was a subway AND a regional rail system made the difference.
  12. Bill *clap-clap* Hall *clap-clap* That's 2 baby....sounds like a moon shot, too.
  13. I'll second that...even if he's not hitting a 400 ft. homer, he's knocking runs in. Still like that sac fly yesterday that scored Weeks and TGJ.
  14. I'm a Jason Kendall fan. I've already forgotten Johnny Estrada. And I've got a feeling that Kendall's experience behind the plate will help the staff as the season goes on.
