  1. Was there for the twins tigers play in game last year. Headed out there for the monday night football game between for the packers and vikings and while in the parking lot for the MNF game I said, wait the twins and tigers have their play in game tomorrow. Can you guys skip work/school tomorrow? Walk off single, in extra innings, of a playoff play in game, in the final regular season game in that stadium, which set an attendence record. I'm going to have to go to a few before I beat that. All the way home on the radio hearing that it was one of the top 50 games in recent baseball history. Good game to go to on a whim. :-)
  2. Yeah that is where the Prince to texas idea died. Perez ending up at closer. If they had waited on him a bit longer we should have paid princes salary this year to send him to texas if Perez was involved. He's just come up too soon for our wishes and made himself darn near untouchable. (even more than he might have been before)
  3. Gamel at 1st. Good range... good glove... as someone posted about braun... shut down his arm. I can deal with Braun in Left. I can deal with Casey at 3rd. Weeks Prince and Hart are going to be expensive and they aren't good defensively. Deal them out for some value when a good offer presents itself. The whole problem is the organizational montra. We keep getting so invested in players at that plate. We don't get our pitching right and to back that up we don't bring in players with plus D other than Gomez. (who can be a bit of a loney) We are all about clubbing the long ball. We need to look at the twins and change our stance on baseball as a whole. We have been in a far better financial position to them... and yet they are far superior to us.
  4. The main problem with Gamel is that we hear enough jazzy sax in our head watching this team as is. We can't have another defender throwing the ball all over the infield. I'm not saying Casey is a great 3B by any means but with Casey and Prince at the corners we aren't strong defensively. Throw in Weeks who can look brilliant and then just awful and any slump in the field by our SS is devastating. I want Gamel to get his time in milwaukee soon. At 1st (or 3rd I guess) when Prince is dealt. I really prefer Gamel at 1st and it drives me nuts that they don't get him more work there in the minors. Being a lefty with very good range his tools could lead to him developing into a very good defensive 1st baseman. The throws have been his issue and we'd severely limit that at 1st. He wouldn't be a plus offensive 1st baseman but he'd very likely be plus defensively. Its something this team really needs to get more concerned with over the next few years.
  5. Which once again blows me away. Oh we need to get him 4 more information gathering innnings in the minros so he can be unavailable for 3-4 days to make sure he doesn't have blah blah blah before we bring him up... but next week we'll jam him into the starting lineup, no worries. So one week its not possible but the next week its absolutely the right move. We must have seen something amazing in that 4IP. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif There is zero reason that shouldn't have been done last night. We didn't know what would happen in the game, sure, but I'm pretty darn sure we knew we'd get 6 IP tops from Parra/Estrada. I'm pretty sure we were certain it wasn't going to be clean. Which brings it right back to why not give Cappy the start. It turned out just about as bad as it could get. Instead we go, no we cant start him on Saturday. Hey we are calling up an unavailable pitcher. We'll start him next week. That's the work of a crazy person. You can say all you want, we wanted to see him get 2 more startts. You didn't learn anything from that 4 IP. If you were trying to learn something about him you wouldn't have pulled him at 60 pitches. That was stupid wasteful and pointless. Sorry, that's just logic.
  6. He shouldn't be coming out of the pen. He should be a guy in AAA who is the first guy called up for an emergency start. Keep him stretched out. He doesn't do much for us in the pen.
  7. What did we learn in those 4 IP that we hadn't already seen in the first starts? Its a rehab sitution. Did we see enough from Suppan with the Trats to bring him up and start him. Its a long DL but 35 IP is enough. Especially when you have an open slot like we did tonight. Toss him into the fire, you'll learn a lot more about him that way. 4.6 IP 6 ER.... could we have done worse?
  8. That's what I heard on the radio broadcast. They want to give him a shot at the 5 spot ... probably on the road trip. So lets recap. If Cappy doesn't start last night. He starts today. Would have likely been a sell out. Could not have done worse than 4.6 IP and 6 ER. Would likely have still had Parra and Estrada available for some long relief in the near future. If Cappy pitched well Parra could have pitched instead of Coffey tonight. Likely would not have had to tax Coffey. Guess this looked good ahead of time, and after the issue. Glad we scrapped out a win.
  9. Now only had we not used Cappy for 4 IP in the minors last night, this move would be darn near perfect. I think the problem with Estrada is the same as Narvy. He's meant to be a 4.5-5 era end of the rotation starter. Jerking him around in the pen has not given him very good results. Probably my main reason for wanting him to be a AAA guy who we call up for spot starts. He looked great in his first appearance when he knew he was going to be handed the ball. His 2nd random one he didn't even get out of the inning. Then pushed up the next day to save Parra he allowed 2 in 3 ip. He's better mentally set to start. I'm glad Cappy is up but this is just our first domino. As someone posted earlier we have our eyes set on the return of Davis Loe Hawk and Riske still and no place to put them. Not saying I think they should all be brought back up, but the club seems to dread letting arms go. Only problem saying Suppan is a servicable mop up long guy. We have Estrada for that. We have Parra who is a LR. When davis is back Cappy is probably a LR I don't think we need 3. No matter which way it plays out we are pretty certain to have 3 as of the call up, and probably extending with that after Davis is back.
  10. We've got a rested bullpen for tomorrow having had a day off, AND a complete game shutout AND 13 pitchers in the pen. I don't see how we're in any jam with our BP whatsoever. If we make a move immediately with Cappy for Estrada: We have Cappy unavailable and have no long guy to piggy back Parra's start with Estrada optioned out. If the game is still close after Parra leaves 3-4 innings in: Braddock, V, Coffey, Ax, Hoffman is what we have in the pen. We should not pitch Suppan or Vargas in a game that is remotely close if we want to win. Meaning if Parra goes 4 (which he hasn't in a long time) everyone would get an inning of work tomorrow. Sure they are capable and rested to do it, but its foolish if you are looking at the long run of the season and trying not to wearing out your pen. It sounds like they will be keeping Estrada up for the game and optioning him right after it. That's fine. You can call it knee jerk or whatever you want but the fact is that our roster has been jacked up all season and it takes something major to get the team (owner gm manager, whoever is doing this) to make the nessicary move. In the long run Yo just saved us 3 IP in our pen. If we were to pitch Cappy tonight in the minors only to bring him up when he's unavailable tomorrow, and send down Estrada before the game, (as it seemed we were doing when I first heard it) we would have pissed away 3 more innings of wear on our pen. Its taken enough already and its not June. Your calling the bullpen rested because of two days off is very short sighted.
  11. or drain Estrada's arm piggybacking Parra tomorrow before sending him back to Nashville. Makes the most sense seeing as they used Cappy tonight and don't want to cut those 2 for some reason.
  12. At least as a pitcher he'd be a solid hitter for his position. Sorry had to say it. I honestly wonder how many position players have the hidden ability to pitch.
  13. Because at the point I'm almost convinced we'll offer soup 4mil/3yr deal in the offseason. They just refuse to let him go when he should have been gone in spring.
  14. Why have him pitch tonight at all.... so frustrating. He could have started tomorrow or at least came in if Parra couldn't go more than 3 innings into the game. Now he's useless tomorrow for our piece start. If we sent down estrada to make this move we put our pen in an unnessicary jam tomorrow even after Yo saved us the work today! Way to gain nothing from tonight! 6 IP to cover and if we sent down Estrada its all on Coffey Braddock Axford V and Hoffman. Lets overwork the pen just because we didn't have to use them tonight. Either way you slice it, even 4 IP tonight made him unavailable for a couple days and that was just stupid. He was on pace to go another 6-7 and his ERA was likely to still be under 2 when he was done with it. If we could have got 6 ip and even 4ER from him tomorrow it would have been a huge boost.
  15. Call me crazy but I'm all for giving a guy who's worked his butt off a chance. I not only want to see Cappy called up but I want to give him the start tomorrow vs the Mets. He's done well in AAA ball. Good ERA pitching 7 innings on average. He's stretched out. Parra isn't. Estrada really isn't. He hasn't pitched since the 23rd so at this point in time why not. We need a feel good story around here and he's busted his tail to get back on the mound for Milwaukee. If he lights it up, they look like a genius/saint. If not, oh well. Brewers fans get something to get behind and will peak walk up attendance tomorrow on the saturday home game. Guys come back from 2 TJs. He's pitching well. He has his command and he's stretched out. If he's going to blow it again, blow it again pitching for the team he worked so hard to get back to. I'd hate to send Estrada down because I think he is more useful to this team than Vargas and Suppan but I think he has the ability to go down and I think he's best suited to be a AAA guy who gets called up to start when a pitcher goes down. He doesn't wow me out of the pen and I'd rather have Parra as our long guy. Loe, I really don't care about. He's been and up and down wash out and he's only been decent in AAA. He's not sub 2 like cappy or averaging 7 IP a start. Loe > Vargas/Suppan but not enough for me to get too worked up about it. Cappy deserves this.
  16. Well opening day its: Weeks Gomez Braun Fielder Edmonds McGehee Zaun Escobar Gallardo Don't exactly agree with the refusal to swap the pitcher/8th man but I'll deal. Not quite sure why we go Fielder Edmonds back to back as well. That's nearly all our L hitters in the lineup back to back. I think that due to weeks, who is not a traditional lead off man, our 9 should be considered our lead off man after the first ABs. As bad as it seems I am starting to agree with Gomez in the two hole. He hits a lot of balls hard and in the air. He can bunt for a base and to move weeks if he gets on. He's never a GIDP threat. Escobar is more of a GIDP threat as he mashes a lot of ground balls and Zaun is a GIDP threat for his lack of speed.
