  1. Honestly, guys, if you get to see the pitches he watched -- you could just hear the venom dripping in Jim Powell's accompanying call. I did see it, and it certainly wasn't pretty. Perhaps its a pathetic attempt at a defense, but Grieve has had a whole three PA's this week, and all of a sudden, he is asked to PH against Dontrelle Willis in the most important at-bat of the game, at that point. Personally, I would have gone with Overbay in that situation. Every hitter in the big leagues have looked especially foolish at the plate at some point, especially when you are caught looking on a fastball right down the middle. oh, I'm sorry, I'm sure I'll be reminded about his OPS or his batting practice HR's shortly. Fine, I'll bite...Despite the fact that Brady Clark has been hot over the last two weeks, his OPS is still some 25 points lower than Grieve. He is STILL one of only three semi-regular players with an OPS over .750. When Grieve starts sucking, I'll say that he is sucking. But to take a shot at Grieve, who really hasn't played poorly at all this year, or to take shots at some of us who defend why he should be playing by using the actual numbers, is kind of unfair. And UNTIL the man who is taking the majority of playing time in RF actually starts posting better numbers than Grieve has this year, I will continue to defend Grieve.
  2. Ya, what a moron he is for sending a 360 hitter to the plate when his best PH has a strained calf. Obermueller isn't a terrible hitter, but when he is the first guy you look to on the bench to PH - and there is no bunt involved - I'm sorry, but then in my view the manager is certifiably nuts. Mike Hampton is a good hitter, but Bobby Cox wouldn't look for him first to PH. Same would be true for Tom Glavine in NY. Or Kerry Wood in Chicago (who hit a HR today, by the way). If Obermueller can hit so good, he should learn how to play somewhere in the field. He sure as hell hasn't proven much of anything on the mound, other than a couple of decent starts here and there in two seasons.
  3. Be careful, Lyle. Helms might steal your job over at first with one more hit. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  4. The first PH of the evening: Wes Obermueller That about says it all about our manager, huh?
  5. And people wonder why I don't like Ned Yost... Just look at that lineup he is going to trot out tonight. Typical Brewers...Saturday night home game, beautiful night, bound to be a big crowd...and Yost fills out a lineup card that most AAA teams would chuckle at.
  6. Again, Grieve is hurt. A lot of good it would do to have him PH in that situation, eh? According to Yost in THIS MORNING'S paper: Brewers rightfielder Ben Grieve did not start Thursday despite carrying a .538 lifetime average (7 for 13) against Braves starter Jaret Wright. Yost said Grieve had been bothered by swelling near his calf, a problem caused by Baker's cysts, which cause a fluid buildup in the knee. "Ben could play if we needed him," Yost said. "We're just keeping him available to pinch-hit right now. We don't want to make it worse." So, apparently Yost felt the Brewers didn't "need" Grieve enough with the tying run at the plate, huh? The fact that Yost let Magruder hit with the tying run at the plate when guys like Grieve and Kieschnick, the two guys on the Brewers bench with any ounce of power, are left on the bench watching is INEXCUSABLE. I know you're a big Yost hater, but I honestly don't understand why I simply don't think Yost is a good manager. Period. While the Brewers aren't the most talented bunch by any stretch, he isn't maximizing the talent he does have. A good deal of his in-game moves are puzzling at best, and the handling of the current roster is ridiculous with regards to playing time. Yost may be a hell of a motivator, and that's great...motivating pro athletes isn't an easy job. However, just because he is a good motivator doesn't mean that he is a good manager and that he should get a 'pass' for obvious blunders he makes in a game.
  7. You deserve to lose when the tying run comes to the plate and you let Chris Magruder bat when Brooks Kieschnick and Ben Grieve are both sitting on the bench. Our manager sucks, people. Simple as that.
  8. I'm starting to wonder if this Brewers team will actually win 70 games. Is Pods paying attention? Does he know what's going on out there? Get your head in the game guy. Pods is just emulating the manager.
  9. Anyone want to explain why Obermueller wasn't sent down and a catcher brought up? Two reasons: 1) That would actually make sense, and 2) The Brewers would have to demote Obermueller, who works hard.
  10. Sickening. This is becoming a nightly thing watching a pitcher melt down while Ned stands idly by. Im no Yost fan by any means, but Davis headed into the inning with 80 pitches and showed no signs of slowing. And he got Adams up in the pen immediately after his first walk and pulled him after the second walk, so he hardly stood "idly by". EDIT: If that had been Wes Obermueller, he would have let him walk in a run before taking him out. So, I guess the hook was unusually quick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  11. Great...Durrington's probably assures him of starting for the rest of the week.
  12. Tonight's Lineups: Cubs 1. Macias, CF 2. Grudzielanek, 2B 3. Sosa, RF 4. Alou, LF 5. Lee, 1B 6. Ramirez, 3B 7. Barrett, C 8. Gonzalez, SS 9. Wood, P Brewers 1. Podsednik, CF 2. Counsell, SS 3. Jenkins, LF 4. Branyan, 3B 5. Overbay, 1B 6. Grieve, RF 7. Hall, 2B 8. Moeller, C 9. Capuano, P Once again, it's nice to see that our best hitter probably won't get his first at-bat until the second inning.
  13. Last Place: "Welcome back, Milwaukee. Haven't seen you in a while. How you doin'?" Milwaukee: "Oh, pretty good. We hadn't seen Third and Fourth Place for a while, so we decided to take a little bit of an extended vacation and paid them a visit. We also swung by Fifth Place for a couple days, too." Last Place: "Glad to see you guys again. Pittsburgh was starting to get on my nerves. Hogging the TV, eatin' all my food...I just said, 'To hell with it...here are some wins, get the heck out of here." Milwaukee: Yeah, I know, those guys in Pittsburgh are losers." Last Place: "Grab a seat. I'll get the beer and chips" Milwaukee: "No rush. We'll probably stay for a while."
  14. Bottom of the 9th, one out: Daron Sutton: "If you ask Ned Yost and Dusty Baker about Greg Maddux's bad April, they tell you the same thing..." Seriously. The Brewers ought to be ashmed these two men are in the broadcast booth.
  15. Whatever it is, I think spending some time at Indy would do him (and us) some good. I honestly think Ben Hendrickson should hitch a ride to Indy with him. Let him go back to the Indians and dominate. This is NOT the situation I want this young man in as he learns how to pitch in the majors. This club is melting down in a hurry.
