  1. The auctions they have online for the Cerveceros/Bears jerseys every year can yield some nice deals if you don't want the top-level guys. 2 years ago I got Sheets and Jenkins Bears jerseys (game used & auto'd) around $800 total for both. With those, you know they are legit, they have the MLB hologram / ID# for authentication. Plus the proceeds for those usually go to some form of charity or other good cause, which is a nice bonus. I remember after I got those, I went to the store at MP and they had a Sheets regular home uni for around $1k, and it wasn't even signed, so they do charge big $ there for the jerseys.
  2. The value of this franchise has increased so much since Mark A. bought the team - he could easily afford to be a little in the red on a year-to-year basis and still come out way ahead when he cashes in. Of course he's still not going to let Doug spend the $. This whole thing is just a bummer. I'm putting full blame on the Happy Youngster for his bad juju.
  3. I know a pretty hardcore memorabilia collector who had some items signed in person by Ted Williams before he died. He ended up taking them to get authenticated by James Spence (JSA) and was told by several of their authenticators that the autos were fakes. Needless to say, he doesn't bother with authentication anymore, lol.
  4. I think if you are moving either within your price range or to a lower-value seat, it's fine as long as you don't inconvenience others around you by sitting directly next to or in front of them. One time I moved from a crowded field level section near the dugout/tarp to one further down the line that had some empty rows. The usher checked my ticket, saw that it was for a technically "better" seat and let me stay. At 95% of the games I go to I'm in the club level, and they don't allow you up there without a ticket for a club level seat, so it's not much of a problem there. Just another reason why I love the club level.
  5. They already have the Milwaukee wordmark, so just put that on the current road unis and there you go. It was great when the Bucks did it with the red alts this year, and it would be even better if the Brewers did it. And I won't even complain about having one of the "old" road Braun authentics :p
  6. Saw this too late http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Any chance we could get a deal similar to this for another game later in the season that hasn't been reserved yet by a group? Based on how fast this one sold out, I'm guessing we could fill up the Dew Deck (or AirTran Landing) pretty quickly.
  7. Those who say to party and have fun because college are the best 4 years of your life are the same ones who don't focus on their academics and end up with $7/hour jobs and a lousy future after college, so for them, sure, it was the best 4 years of their life as they had nothing left afterwards, lol.
  8. Stubhub is great for last-minute deals. Plus if you know where to look, you can always find $10/$20 off coupon codes. I've gotten Club and Field level tickets for well under $10 total (including the fees).
  9. Phil Vassar is always one of the best shows at Summerfest every single year, free stage or otherwise. Just a huge party with one of the biggest crowds of the entire fest.
  10. Yet the idiots at MP will still give him the Gagne/Turnbow treatment when it happens I'm guessing.
  11. The complainers in StL are probably just upset that they no longer have an easy path to the playoffs like they did up until a year or two ago. I don't know about you, but when the Brewers lose, I either turn the TV off or am walking out of the stadium. I don't stick around to see how the other team celebrates, so other teams could do that and I wouldn't care at all.
  12. If it is truly something they designed to promote fan interaction, then they should go back to just having the 5x7 player cards and not allow anyone to get other stuff signed. That would cut down on the dealers and others who are just looking to get stuff signed to resell. Or maybe have the cards for free, and then sell special Brewers/Autograph Fridays logo baseballs for $5 (not OMLBs) and those would be the only 2 items they are allowed to sign. You could get one of those balls at the start of the year and get it signed by the whole team if you want or buy separate ones for each player. Not being official balls would hurt the dealers/resellers, but anyone who just thinks it's cool to have a ball signed would be more than happy. They could even maybe donate the profits from the balls (since they probably are around $1 or less in bulk) to Brewers Charities.
  13. I don't see how going to a bigger market helps him that much. All these guys sign with the Yankees, Red Sox, etc... and end up cogs in the machine. They go from the best player on their old team, to the #4 or 5 guy on the new team. I doubt the marketing opportunites are that much better unless you are one of the elite guys. He can easily live in CA or NY during the offseason and go to the clubs and fancy restaurants, but during the season, you are usually playing baseball at night. It's not like football or even basketball where you have a lot of downtime and nights off during the season.
  14. cue the "see! it was an awful trade" posts from the rubes...
  15. This market IS the same size as it was in the 1990's, and therefore can't afford to spend what the bigger market teams can. Therefore while we'll be competitive, competitive will mean around .500, usually around 6th best in the NL. It's not fun to think about, but it's the truth. If Laporta wasn't traded last year, he'd be traded this year or next year or 2011 if we're in contention to make the playoffs late in the season. It's how small market teams operate. Trade your prospects when you have a shot, trade your big $ stars for prospects when you don't have a shot. We can't afford to keep and pay everyone. Nothing has changed from the 1990's, and you are delusional if you think otherwise.
