  1. That's funny, I always assumed there was a standard strike zone for everyone really? game to game, ump to ump... top of the first to bottom of the ninth? you're really going to make that claim? good night forum, we have lost ability to see reality.
  2. Turnbow does not deserve that strike call. Smoltz does, Maddux does, glavine, clemens, the old boys... blaming an ump is weak. I was taken aback by Powell's answer to the JS chat question today about how many wins can an excellent manager (leyland, garner, torre, sciosia, there was 1 more)add to a team... his answer was 10. and maybe more depending on positivity of clubhouse camaraderie. this one we can hang right on yost. but gross' play is slipping into the shadows until the game-winning hit gets replayed over and over.
  3. Ned set Derrick up for failure. What exactly about a 1 - 1 game in the bottom of the ninth on the road is an opportunity to readjust your mechanics against major league hitters? The Braves' 2 - 3 - 4 for crying out loud! Sure there was confidence to be won. and a whole lot more to be lost. Step 1: "Hi, my name is Ned, and I'm a Turnbowaholic" the rest gets easier. It took 5 months to get Ned into the Jenkinsaholic Anonymous re-hab. I don't expect much to happen soon.
  4. also a good point endaround, the ump is not going to give him the benefit of a doubt when he is blazing straightballs 8 feet off the ground.
  5. how's that old saying go? fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me... what happens around being fooled for the 9th, 10th, 11th... time? i wonder if ned feels like an idiot, because I do.

  7. kudos to davey nelson mench is swift that was the worst possible ever slide turnb... whaaaa?
  8. mlb.tv has no box score... no balls, no strikes... no little diamond populated by baserunners... i actually have to keep score here. thank goodness i am out of earshot of darron
  9. 4th time Prince sees Moltz good things will happen; cue Coco.
  10. Inspired by Graffy's double, I will munch on crow souffle appetizer tonight. Yes, it did suck to get rid of George of the Rose, especially when your hand was forced by injury. Perhaps it would have happened anyway. We got value back, and then some. when you look at George's first 2 starts with KC: 7.1 IN 8.87 ERA 2.68 WHIP 8.87 K/9 7.61 BB/9 from CBS's player notes: All four batters De La Rosa walked scored. "That's what happens when you don't throw strikes," De La Rosa said. "It was all mechanics. I'll work on it." Personally, I'm glad he's "working on it" on KC's watch. Graffanino - better than Barnwell since 2006
  11. what the hell, he didn't even strike anyone out.
  12. After the top of the third during the commercial break for some reason I decided to do 50 push-ups and 25 sit-ups. After the top of the fourth I realized I had to do the same thing. The third set after the top of the 5th was getting harder. Good thing they were long innings. Then my girlfriend came home and - saying nothing - I used a golf-club to point at the box score for her when they came back from the pitching change commercial. I blame myself.
  13. Good game, no more scoreboard watching for me... it's fruitless. We win. 1) I blame Yost for blowing Bush's no-hitter by not bringing in a 5th infielder when Slappy Pierre was up. 2) Quite possibly the only roster in the majors that can bat the same player lead-off one game and clean-up the very next. and i don't think this is a bad thing. i double-checked the scorecard when Gross came up with "2 walks and 2 runs" per the commentary. not bad for a lead-off... scratch that, clean-up guy. Then, 3) Gross doubles and the WGN guy offers interesting color as Hall is being intentionally walked. "this is a move that 30 managers in the bigs make, because Jenkins..." Not a bad at-bat but definitely Moellery expectations... Full count and Geoff goes and swings at a 55 foot pitch. there is going to be a paradigm shift soon declaring all Chad Moeller at-bats having Jenkinsy expectations. Not a bad spot for Hart there Flanders. 4) the bottom of the line-up is a wretched black hole with Miller's BA plummeting and the giant sized 0-fer the pitchers throw up there. Remember when Damian was stroking a .330 or something, man those were the days. Now his Jake Taylorism really shows when he can't catch up to mediocre fastballs. Bush had to pitch to Zambrano like he was a threat (because he is), but it's almost like we have 7 guys up there.
  14. That was indeed a hell of a game and I fell asleep with a big stupid smile on my face. On the triple, Brady thought he was still playing center field... he should have realized it was Tony's ball to lose and taken the back-up route automatically. Really glad Fran got Tony off the hook for that, could have been a huge mental black mark for the rook. Of course the rain soaked turf did not help matters. Also, maybe it's just me, but from watching Ned Yost manage, I fully expect a suicide squeeze to happen each and every instance the circumstance allows it. It was boggling to me why the Rox didn't try one...especially with runners at the corners and 1 down. they had about 20 Cordero pitches to pull the trigger on it. I suppose the NBA rule of thumb for a last possession shot is: on the road - play for the win, at home - play for the tie. that could translate to MLB.
  15. the NL Wildcard race re-defines scoreboard watching... it's the whole stinkin thing
  16. light has a better chance of escaping a black hole than Junkins getting a hit off a lefty.
  17. Oh boy, bases loaded for our number 2 hitter. Tony Royalnino... scary
  18. wow yost looks bad if Brady doesn't drive in damian. what the hell? 77 pitches through 6, 4 hits?! (prince's misplay being #5)
  19. I'm not sure how to feel about the NL Wildcard race... is disgusted optimism possible? This is like the start of the Kentucky Derby... and the track has been rained on for 12 days... and the horses have no jockeys. I mean, where did the Phillies come from? I blinked... are they just not playing the 6th?
  20. David Bell gives me the impression that he could care less what happens to the Brewers. subjective, opinionated, un-founded, unfair even, not statistically based I know... but I'm entitled. I like Bush
  21. a closer with a 1-2-3 ninth? that was down right odd.
