  1. Part of my almost wonders if this was done as part of the negotiations with another player. Almost like a situation that says "hey we have enough depth and don;t need to over pay for any pitcher". With that said, I still don't understand it. I don't see any way the Miley makes a positive contribution to any big league team this year. If he is on our roster, my expectations for the season take a big hit.
  2. Working on that at the same time. Will delete mine!
  3. I posted this a few days ago but to reiterate...I want the Brewers to sign Arrieta because he just seems like the type of dude who will absolutely be focused to prove his doubters wrong. I would love to get a chip on the shoulder Arrieta in Milwaukee for the next 4-5 years. I have been having the same thought. He just seems like he is going to want to stick it to the Cubs anyway he can. That kind of intensity would be fun to watch.
  4. I am not in favor of this. Would have to get a prospect back. Braun can contribute more to this team then Kemp could. Not interested in doing as part of a salary dump.
  5. I may have missed it, but is there any explanation for his downward trend in velocity over the last couple years. Especially from 2016 to 2017?
  6. Absolutely, yes. Without question you take Suter and Woodruff over Lynn and Cobb factoring in money and picks. Why? Because Lynn and Cobb aren't TOR types and that's what we need. I don't disagree. Just thought it was the more appropriate question. I don't like the picks associated with Lynn or Cobb. That's part of why I would like Darvish even though he will cost a ton more. Would also be OK with a trade if it brings back a true TOR.
  7. You should probably look at those guys stat lines. They were pretty great a year ago. While you want to insult people that don't believe that Arrieta, Lynn, or Cobb are rotation changes, you really are knocking three guys that are really putting it together. Most fans would dream of having a 24-year-old in Davies put up the stat line he did but since he's basically a middle school student, we dismiss him. If you are factoring in dollars then I will take Davies and Anderson over Lynn and Cobb and I don't think its even close. No goggles on here. FYI But would you take Suter and Woodruff over Lynn and Cobb? That's probably the more appropriate question.
  8. Lucroy as the primary and Pina as the backup would be an upgrade at catcher. Think about it this way: * Lucroy catches 100 games, Pina 60 * Lucroy plays 10-15 games at first as Braun DHs * Braun plays 110 games at first * Santana in RF, Yelich LF * Thames kept as backup 1B/LF/RF, 30-40 starts at first, maybe 10-15 in left, 10-15 in right * Aguilar on the move somewhere for a pitcher That seems reasonable. I do expect Lucroy to bounce back a bit this year and being in Miller Park would likely help. The thought of that lineup is pretty exciting, especially if Pina plays close to the level he did last year. Having a solid back up catcher that can hit would be awesome.
  9. I think it's likely that it would take at least 5 years $120 million. It could bite us in the long run, but I am leaning toward saying go for it. Would love it if it could be a but front loaded so easier to unload later if needed.
  10. Especially when watching Vogt's defense last year.. ick. Exactly. I am hoping we do find a serviceable catcher or that one of the others in camp beat Vogt out for the spot.
  11. I would be in favor, but not sure how it works. Lucroy will not want a part time job, so unless you are trading Pina it makes no sense. Pina did enough that he should at least be able to split time in the role. Likely there will be no First base opportunities for Lucroy here either as we already have a potential log jam there.
  12. Maybe he is getting a last minute update.
  13. Maybe he just wanted to see how many of us would be online waiting for him.
  14. Hoping for something tangible. Let's see what he has to say.
  15. That's the problem. The GM's created this mess by paying the salaries that they have been for so long. Now they are looking to correct the market and it has lead to a trickle of activity as they wait for prices to come down to where they believe they should be. It has taken years of paying big contracts with way too many years attached to players that were going to be past the twilight of their career when the contract ended and it unfortunately will not be able to to corrected in one off season. The reality is that in less than 2 months regular season games will be taking place and the market will have to be settled between now and that time. The waiting is horrendous. After enthusiastically waiting for more news after the flurry a couple weeks ago, I am now more in the mode of expect nothing and be happy if something occurs.
  16. There were rumblings that Darvish might make a decision today. Not sure if that was based in any fact of just opinions. In any event, I hope things pick up this week. Spring training is right around the corner. If I had to guess, I would say Cobb for Brewers. Though I would love Yu.
  17. It appears that he is either hinting at Trevor Bauer or the fact that something should happen in the next 24 hours. Curious what Trevor Bauer would cost, though he doesn't really move the needle as much as Archer would. Also probably would not cost Burnes though.
  18. I wonder if trading for Archer, before Darvish makes a decision, could actually help us in getting Darvish. For some reason strike me as someone that doesn't want to be the main guy, doesn't like that extra attention on him. However if you acquire Archer that will take away some of that spotlight a little and take a little pressure of of Yu. At the end of the day he may not want to join Milwaukee no matter what we do, but its a thought.
  19. I am pretty sure that he was fighting through injuries the 2 bad years. When healthy he is solid.
  20. The price that is being talked about is steep. I would prefer to find a way to do it without Phillips involved. I am intrigued though. Add Archer and a FA to our rotation and this could be a very interesting year. As pointed out earlier, all of these additions would be locked up for a while and I trust Stearns to be able to replenish.
  21. Do you think we end up with a second arm? A FA maybe?
  22. That is the Brewer's plan. Priority is to get one first. That is what I like to hear. Keep hoping for the dominoes to start falling.
  23. Brewer's have a decisive plan in place. What people don't realize is the Brewer's have "partial acceptance" trades in a holding pen. (Every team has this) They can act on them whenever they want. In most cases the offer is not ideal. If it was they would act obviously. They can revisit them at any time with the opposing team. However, the trade offer from the opposing team may change literally within an hour. It's not fantasy baseball were you offer a trade and you just wait for it to get accepted. For instance Brewer's offer goes into holding pen. Opposing team may accept Brewer's offer. Offer DOES NOT GO THRU UNTIL BREWER APPROVE FROM THE HOLDING PEN. This allows an offer to be sent but allows the team to work on something else with the same player in the other offer. As you can see this allows a team to take different directions at one time with the one player. The trouble is, the trade can take different directions. A trade maybe accepted, but when the offering team is weighing it's best options, a day later the accepting team can differ because they have a presumed better offer with a different team or just changed their mind. Yu is the holdup in regards to pitching acquisitions in general for all MLB teams. When Yu goes, chips will start to fall, but not that fast and here's why. No one is going to spend their $ on Cobb for example when it could of went to Yu.But you don't know that until YU is off the board. Also, the longer the lesser FA pitchers (Cobb, Lynn, etc) hang out to dry, the more their price goes down. GM's know this. So there maybe a collusion of philosophy amongst GM's even though there is not a true collusion of GM's with verbal or written agreement of each other like some want to believe. Thank you for all the info. Based on what you know, do you think that they will end up adding a TOR when all is said and done?
  24. I can be quiet and not say anything going forward. I'm fine with that. Some of us like what you have to say and appreciate it. There are always skeptics, and either way it makes the time go faster. Don't let the haters stop you!
  25. No matter what this is not our roster going into the season. Something needs to be done. Looking at the roster, even if we optioned Phillips, we would still have Santana, Vogt, Sogard, Perez, Broxton, and Aguilar. There is no way we only have 11 in the bullpen. We have 1-2 too many position players for our 25 man roster. I think Santana and probably Aguilar are the most likely to go. In either event, even if we sign a free agent pitcher, there has to be another trade as well.
