  1. They still have tons of talent, a large payroll, and tons of money coming off the books the next 2 offseasons. I just don't see how we're in any position to be criticizing that teams chances going forward. They are in pretty good shape to stay competitive for a while. Meanwhile we're getting by on smoke & mirrors.
  2. I want to win a World Series. That could happen by sneaking in with a wild card, but the chances of us winning it all this year are incredibly small, and once they are official 0, I just don't see what we have to be optimistic about.
  3. But basically all the metrics say the Cubs roster is significantly better than the Brewers. Run differential means nothing compared to wins and losses, but it's a pretty good indicator of the talent an organization has.
  4. At least the Cubs have a window. If the Brewers don't win the World Series this season, there isn't much to hope for going forward. This little run is a nice distraction, but we're not in good shape as an organization. Also I'd prefer that the Cubs front office is cocky like last year and decides not to improve the team again.
  5. It would be shocking if he returns in the regular season.
  6. How is that confounding analytical people? Things like this happen all the time. It would be weird if seasons like this DIDN'T happen.
  7. Huh? He's a catcher with a .374 OBP and an .850 OPS. He's been worth almost 4 wins already. He's been an absolute steal.
  8. I don't understand that trade for Toronto.
  9. Wait what? The Cubs have a +64 run differential and are only 6 games over .500. The Brewers are at -26 and somehow are a game above .500. The Brewers are fortunate to only be 2.5 games back with the way the 2 rosters have played. Implying that the Cubs have been lucky is the opposite of reality.
  10. Above all else? Good to know that you value baseball games more than human decency. And of course his teammates will defend him and say that's not who he is, that's how it always works.
  11. Young? What's his excuse for this one? https://twitter.com/BeanBooper/status/1019428543934140416 Also tweeting KKK and "I hate gay people" is not your typical youthful stupidity.
  12. He was 15th in NL fwar going into tonight. This start is extremely flukey. The banked wins are nice, but relying on 1 run wins in not a recipe for success. They have played mediocre baseball and continue to be rewarded by sequencing and unsustainable late "magic". Eventually the bad pitchers who are inexplicably performing well will come back to earth, and it's going to be a struggle. The injuries negate some of the good luck they've had, but it's still been insane to watch the other teams constantly let the Brewers win games like these. Enjoy it while it lasts I guess. Fangraphs still only has them projected to 83 wins.
  13. That's one way to spin having a 25-17 record with only a +6 run differential. Banking the wins is nice, but they keep relying on late comebacks and bullpen wins. If they continue to barely outscore the opposition on average, that record is going to come back down to .500 to go along with it. They have been unlucky with injuries, but they've been more lucky with run sequencing to more than make up for it. Basically, this record is unsustainable unless they start getting better production across the board and stop relying on winning close games. That is not a viable long-term strategy.
  14. Interesting, I seem to remember him lying about it and throwing people under the bus to rid himself of the blame. It's kind of weird to compliment a fanbase for embracing a cheater anyways. Any fanbase would have done it, but it's not something to be proud of.
