  1. Nick Kahle pinch hits for Garrett Mitchell in the 3rd inning, making his AA debut with a run-scoring single. Let's hope that the exit is just precautionary for Mitchell. Somehow nearly all of our early season injuries (McGee, Campbell, perhaps Mitchell) and trades (Howell, Cantrelle) have hit just one club (Biloxi).
  2. Biloxi was gifted with 2 errors and 2 walks, resulting in 2 first inning runs without a hit. Nick Bennett then yielded a walk and a homer to Drew Lugbauer (18 homers in AA last year, then 6 in the Arizona Fall League, yet still stuck in AA) in the top of the second inning. They're knotted 2-2.
  3. Antoine Kelly didn't give up a hit in his first inning, but he gave up an earned run anyway: walk, 2 stolen bases, sac fly. He K'd 2 batters. It's 1-1 after the first inning for the Timber Rattlers. The exciting Sal Frelick got a hit, stole second, moved to third on a hit and scored on a wild pitch in the top half of the inning. In AAA, Caleb Boushley got tagged for a double and two home runs in the 2nd inning. Sounds are down 3-0.
  4. I should have mentioned that 21-year old LHH LF Oswel Leones was making his Low-A Carolina debut as well, hitting a first inning triple. Somewhat oddly for this level of ball, he was replaced in the 6th inning by Micah Bello. Hopefully he didn't pick up any sort of injury.
  5. - LHP Angel Perdomo placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list - RHP Caden Lemons placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list - LHP Jackson Gillis placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list - RHP Moises Gomez assigned to ACL Brewers Blue from AAA Nashville in what appears to be some sort of paper move
  6. The 2-1 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers travel to 0-3 Beloit for six games this week. #14 prospect LHP Antoine Kelly makes his 2nd-ever start for High-A Wisconsin after being limited by injuries last year. CF Sal Frelick brings his 3-game hitting streak into the game, while early season surprise Tristan Peters mans the DH spot:
  7. The 4-2 Nashville Sounds go on the road for a 6-game set against the 3-3 Gwinnett Stripers. RHP Caleb Boushley makes his second start and 2B Pablo Reyes makes his first appearance of the season. 3B Mark Mathias (.545 / .545 / .818) brings his 3-game hitting streak into the contest:
  8. The undefeated Carolina Mudcats (3-0) travel to face the 2-1 Fredericksburg Nationals this week. 20-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle makes his 2022 debut on the mound tonight. C Jeferson Quero (1.096 OPS) and SS Eduardo Garcia (1.083 OPS) lead the offense, while 3B Luis Silva gets his first action at the Low-A level: 1 - Garcia - SS 2 - Leones - LF 3 - Quero - C 4 - Mendez - RF 5 - Chirinos - 1B 6 - Perez - DH 7 - Cipion - CF 8 - Ferrer - 2B 9 - Silva - 3B X - Cornielle - P
  9. The undefeated (3-0) Biloxi Shuckers have their home opener tonight, the first of a 6-game series against the Mississippi Braves. LHP Nick Bennett makes his season debut on the mound, while top hitters Wiemer (1.148 OPS), Valerio (1.417 OPS) and Lutz (1.036 OPS) hit 3rd, 5th and 7th respectively:
  10. Tough news on Noah Campbell, but glad to hear that the now-mysterious Alec Bettinger is healthy.

  13. Tough news on Noah Campbell, but glad to hear that the now-mysterious Alec Bettinger is healthy.
  14. Victor Castaneda exits after 4 2/3 innings (66 pitches), with runners on the corners. Then Zach Vennaro dispatched that threat with just one pitch. Biloxi leads Pensacola 3-1 through 5 innings.
  15. Down 2-1 in the bottom half of the final inning against the formidable Wilfredo Pereira (3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 115 Ks in 97 1/3 innings in High-A last year), the Timber Rattlers win on a walk-off anyway. Yeison Coca earned a 10-pitch walk, Sal Frelick a 7-pitch walk, then Tyler Black singled them both home. Woo hoo!
  16. Catcher Paul McIntosh of the Marlins is making a mockery of draft boards. Undrafted in 2021, he put up a 1.020 OPS in 94 Low-A PAs last year (6 home runs, 15 walks, 20 Ks). Leaping to AA Pensacola, he's now 4-6 with 2 home runs and a double to start the year. He may be quite a story.
  17. The Sounds scored 4 in the 7th inning to pull ahead of the Durham Bulls, 4-3, with a Brice Turang double proving decisive. Then Miguel Sanchez (7 pitches, 1 K) and Luis Perdomo (13 pitches, 3 Ks) made quick work in the 8th and 9th innings to close it out. I can't help but wonder why Zack Brown hasn't pitched since 1 inning on April 6th, with Luke Barker instead having to work another 1 1/3 innings today. I hope he's fine.
  18. The Timber Rattlers finally got a run across in the 5th inning of the 2nd game of their double-header, with back-to-back doubles by Sal Frelick and Tyler Black to tie it at 1-1. Unfortunately, Black was then picked off. Now, RHP Max Lazar makes his first appearance since 2019, in relief for the Rattlers in the 6th inning. Let's go Max!
  19. Frustration in Appleton, as the Rattlers strand 5 runners in the first two innings of the second game. Loaded 'em with 1 out in the first, then had 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the second, but none made it home. 0-0 going into the 3rd inning.
  20. Probably an injury in Biloxi, as Noah Campbell leaves in the top of the first inning after reaching on an error, replaced by Thomas Dillard.
  21. After dropping Game 1 earlier today, Wisconsin makes three line-up changes for the second contest, including C Wes Clarke making his first-ever High-A Wisconsin start. On the hill is RHP TJ Shook, who K'd 71 in 52 2/3 innings last year: 1 - Sal Frelick - CF 2 - Tyler Black - 2B 3 - Joe Gray Jr. - RF 4 - Wes Clarke - C 5 - Zavier Warren - 3B 6 - Ernesto Martinez - 1B 7 - Carlos D. Rodriguez - LF 8 - Ethan Murray - SS 9 - Yeison Coca - 2B X - TJ Shook - P
  22. Ethan Small exits after 3 innings (65 pitches), with the Sounds down 1-0. I'm assuming the short outing was planned, given that he also started 5 days ago.
  23. Fire-baller RHP Victor Castaneda (131 Ks in 109 innings last year) makes his 2022 debut for AA Biloxi, with yesterday's hero OF Tristen Lutz (2-run game-winning 9th inning homer) batting 7th. They're looking for a sweep of the Blue Wahoos:
  24. 23-year old LHP Jakob Brustoski comes in for the Mudcats' 9th inning, making his minor league debut.
  25. In Appleton, Brandon Knarr exits after 83 pitches (5 2/3 innings), unlucky to be down 1-0 despite only yielding 2 infield hits. 26-year old RHP Kent Hasler relieves him as the hitters devise a plan for a come back.
