  1. From a defensive standpoint, I'd believe Stearns would likely stick with what he has given his history of maintaining strong defensive players up the middle with more offense-heavy players on the corner positions. With Cain still being a solid option out there, there's likely a good chance they keep him out there and punt the offense if it doesn't turn around/mix Taylor and others in for more looks until they bridge the gap for Frelick/Mitchell in 2023. Offense-wise, it would be an upgrade (even more so if you believe Laureano can still be the player he was in 2018-19). But being an all-around player and the Crew's potential need for more firepower in the lineup than defense, it feels more like a gamble on an uncertain offensive upgrade for 2.5 seasons when there may very well be a better bat at a corner spot for the same/similar package. Not that I don't like Laureano - it's interesting, but I'd be hesitant until we see some regular plate appearances for him and see where he's at. I'd pass on the framed deal - it's a bit rich. But I definitely agree with the Frelick/Mitchell/Wiemer centerpiece since it would take a high-profile guy that's looking good in his reps in the minors. It would definitely take a couple additional mid-tier guys for the 2.5 years of control though.
  2. I'd be very curious to see who the DH is by the end of the year. Seems like the best option to add an impact bat on an expiring deal. Could also see some added insurance for a guy who can play 3B/1B and have that DH spot go towards a defensive rest day for Urias/Adames/Wong/Tellez, etc. Brewers always seem to find a diamond in the rough in terms of relief help at the deadline, so I'd figure a smaller name or two being added there.
  3. The biggest point to look into regarding a Woodruff trade (or a trade of any pillar player for that matter) is exactly how long the Brewers' winning timetable actually is. I would be hard-pressed to believe the Brewers would move on from a cornerstone player to effectively make a buy-now/buy for near future move (or any team for that matter) at a position of weakness. Should any move happen, Stearns & Co. would likely believe a reset or refocus is necessary to step back and replenish in 2023-2025. I don't quite see that happening when pitching is the bane of many playoff teams and the Crew have enough farm system depth to make offensive upgrades in the near-term (though I'd agree with many that I'd love to see the team be more willing to go after a more solid bat than they normally target).
