By the Numbers: Brewers vs. Cardinals Post ASG ScheduleCertainly not looking past the importance of this four-game series vs. SF, but for those curious, here is a quick peek ahead to our schedule and that of the Cardinals by the numbers after the All-Star Game (ASG).First, we play 69 games after the ASG and will have already played 93 by the break, with a breakdown of 40 home games (43%) and 53 played on the road. If you compare that to the Cardinals, they will have played 95 games by the ASG, with 50 played at home (53%) and 45 on the road. Also, while the Brewers so far are 22-23 (~.500) against teams .500 or better (SF games TBD), the Cards fared worse and were only 23-30.For a quick comparison to other division leaders, to date the Mets are 28-22 against .500 or better teams and the Dodgers are 19-14.So after the ASG, the Brewers will enjoy 41 out of 69 games at home, with only 28 to be played on the road. This net of +13 home games can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. Brewers were only 21-19 at home up to the break and fared better on the road, going 29-21 to date (with 3 SF games remaining). The Cards, however, were 21-24 on the road, but much better at home, going 27-20 and can improve that against the Reds at home over the weekend.Strength of schedule up until the ASG shows the Brewers are ranked with the 2nd easiest strength of schedule (29th out of 30 teams) pre-ASF, while the Cards were ranked 17th, with a slightly favorable easy schedule, but pretty much in the middle of the pack.As we look at strength of schedule for both teams after the break, the Brewers play 23 series matchups after the break, with 11 of those being against teams currently .500 or better - so about half of the series' will be against teams with winning records. The Cards have 21 series matchups after the break, with only a mere 8 of them against teams currently .500 or better - so about 40% of their series' will be against teams with current winning records. Strength of schedule for after the break currently shows the Brewers ranked with the 5th easiest schedule and the Cards ranked with the 2nd easiest schedule. Finally, to close out the season, the Cards play 11 of their final 14 games on the road, with SD, the Brewers and Dodgers included in that mix. The Crew plays 20 of their final 26 games at home to end the regular season, with Cards, Mets and Yankees in that mix, but also AZ, Marlins and Reds peppered in. These games aren't always as scary as they seem, since some teams like the Yankees and Mets may have already clinched their playoff spots and may rest players.Lessons to take away include winning the series' against non-winning teams and do better than pre-ASG at home and get a on a nice run and put yourself in a position for the playoffs by getting hot during that final 26-game stretch, with 20 of them to be played at American Family. They can help themselves with these goals by getting a new bat or two by the trade deadline that can hit timely with runners in scoring position, and by getting Peralta and some key relievers back and healthy.
