Although he's not listed on the official ACL Brewers' roster page and his own player page doesn't indicate it, Vallecillo is currently on the ACL Brewers’ 60-day IL with an injury that he sustained in the offseason. From what we've been told, his rehab has been going well and the organization hopes to see him back out on the mound in August. *It is very rare we reach out to those within Brewers' Player Development with such inquiries, but the nature of the web pages provided a valid reason to in this instance. When we have reached out respectfully, it's always been a cooperative response, much appreciated. All within "BrewersPD" are the best! -

Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "The Brewers finish a highlight-heavy homestand at 5-1, sweeping the reigning World Series champion Rangers and taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs. An unprecedented grand-slam binge has the Brewers playing an exciting brand of baseball. Host JR Radcliffe and Journal Sentinel Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak look back at the successful run, including more great stuff from Jackson Chourio, a truly elite first half of the season from Brice Turang, the long-awaited return of Garrett Mitchell, the surprising arrival of Dallas Keuchel and an injury to Jared Koenig. Three Up Three Down looks at some sobering moments from the week, including the loss of former public address announcer Robb Edwards and a terrifying escalator malfunction at American Family Field. Could the Brewers have two all-star starters for the first time in a decade? Remembrew When goes back in time to 1980, when an inside-the-park home run and grand slam happened at the same time. Then, JR sits down with Tyler Black, a rookie infielder with a bright future. Though he was optioned back to Class AAA Nashville at the end of the week, Black has been with the Brewers for multiple stints this year, and he discussed giving up hockey, Canadian baseball, his first memories of Milwaukee playing for Wright State at Hank Aaron Field, the automatic strike zone and his defense." -

Catcher Alejandro Rodriguez, who saw action in nine games with Maryvale in 2023 after signing that July, and then saw barely any action at all (three games, two AB's) with Wisconsin this year, was signed by the Angels organization this week. He is currently with their Arizona Complex League team. Good for him. -

We are already seeing a de-emphasizing of slug-heavy, defensively-challenged first basemen. My comment had more to do with the state of that position in the future, and that there won’t be enough high-end talent there. That will force GM’s to kind of reinvent the position, greater use of platoons, more emphasis on athleticism.

We realize that following the Brewers' minor leaguers on a daily basis is a niche fandom. Brewer Fanatic management has let us know that our Link Reports and Minor League forum posts have seen greatly increased viewing as of late. We so appreciate your eyes, your input, your interest. Whether we are staying up late or getting up early to prepare everything for you, it truly does help keep us motivated knowing that there are fans following along. Thank you. And of course, thanks to the Brewers youngsters providing all the storylines. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Now, let's get to the busy day on the farm! Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers designated CF Chris Roller for assignment. Milwaukee Brewers selected the contract of LHP Rob Zastryzny from Nashville Sounds. Roller will be idle in Nashville until his status is resolved. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes (unavailable for this date) Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 6, Nashville 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: The Sounds Keep It Close but Lose Tight Contest Versus the Jumbo Shrimp - Yonny Hernández and Patrick Dorrian have three hits in 6-4 defeat That's encouraging, but Carlos F. Rodriguez' piggy-back line was not. Only one K - 4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 HR. Garrett Mitchell, as the designated hitter, opened the game with an infield single. He stole second base but was stranded. He grounded into a 6-3 double play in the 3rd, though a run scored (no RBI), but Mitchell did net an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field in the 6th. He would be pinch-hit for in the 7th. Pat Murphy indicated Mitchell would not be in Milwaukee for Sunday's game. Mitchell's 20-day rehab stint has ended, will he be officially optioned to AAA on Sunday? Freddy Zamora has not played the last three games (.559 OPS in June). Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 7, Pensacola (Marlins) 2 Box Score and Game Log Shuckers Fall to Pensacola on Late Home Run - Rodriguez extends hit streak to 11 games, on-base streak to career-best 19 Mike Boeve was 0-for-4 (no K's), but good to see him in the lineup for the first time since June 20th. Not a lot going on offensively, but 2B Dylan O'Rae had his 3rd consecutive two-hit game, including a double. The 20-year-old has a .250/.353/.318 line through a still-small-sample 51 Biloxi plate appearances. Three of his eleven hits have been doubles. Here's bit of the limited attack, though it was productive here: From my co-reporter Daniel in our as-it-happens nightly forum thread: After leading 2-1 since the 4th inning, Justin Yeager unfortunately couldn’t close it for Biloxi, allowing a 3-run homer with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning. He was ahead 0-1 to that batter and 0-2 to the prior hitter (singled). Yoho and Holub are the true shut down guys, but Yeager can normally be counted on - he drops to 7-for-9 in save opportunities. Solid work by Shane Smith, Bo Bowman, Sam Carlson and Justin King over 8 innings: 1 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 8 Ks CF Carlos D. Rodriguez tripled in a run and scored in the 4th inning to give Biloxi the 2-1 advantage which nearly held up. Thanks, Daniel. You'll have an occasional game where you ask five pitchers to perform well, and only four do. It can be a lot to ask. Kaleb Bowman stranded a runner for Shane Smith, who threw 84 pitches over 4.1 innings (one BB, one HBP). Wisconsin Pre-Game Doubleheader Media Notes Final, Game One: Wisconsin 10, South Bend (Cubs) 1 Box Score and Game Log Rattlers Run Away with First Game of Twinbill As we always encourage for Timber Rattlers home games, dig into that detailed game summary above, then allow these highlights to provide the visual follow-up for your enjoyment: It was a third consecutive encouraging start for 23-year-old 2022 5th round RHP Will Rudy (15 K, only two BB over 16 innings during that stretch). All nine in the lineup can find a positive box score contribution, even in just the six T-Rat offensive frames (shortened twinbill games). Third baseman Luke Adams (who also walked in the nightcap) reached base all four trips in this one (single, three walks). At the end of the night, Adams is 3rd in Midwest League OBP at .424, his 19 HBP's aiding that figure. On base eight times between them on the day (five times in this opener), what a wonderful development year it's been for 20-year-old infielders Gregory Barrios and Jadher Areinamo. *** Final, Game Two: Wisconsin 6, South Bend (Cubs) 0 Box Score and Game Log Timber Rattlers Complete the Sweep with a Shutout - Herrera and Fitzpatrick hold Cubs to four hits in 6-0 victory Thank you, Rattlers, for removing some of the Cubs big-league sting on this day. Fun day for these folks: Att: 4,263. Yujanyer Herrera and Brian Fitzpatrick combined to throw only 27 balls (non-strikes) in their 89 pitches. Fantastic. Areinamo was on both sides of this stat, now 25-for-31 in SB attempts, he was 16-of-21 with Carolina in 2023. 22-year-old Jesus Chirinos was on base all three trips, now .232/.337/.404. He has had his moments (hello, Yu Darvish), but it's just so difficult to carve out a path to the majors via the 1B/DH route, When the Freddy Freeman's and Matt Olson's, and the like, start to wind down their careers, as MLB fans we'll need to be ready for a new breed of part-time/platoon players not just across the MLB level, but the minors as well. We're already seeing that on multiple fronts. Final: Carolina 5, Lynchburg (Guardians) 3 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Beat Lynchburg Four players reached base twice, and Yhoswar Garcia, playing LF, was on base thrice. If not for a 2-for-14 team line with RISP, the Mudcats could have pulled away further. Garcia had the lone XBH (double) among the team's seven knocks, but young legs ran free, 9-for-9 in SB attempts. Daniel Guilarte (now 25-for-31 on the basepaths) and Garcia (38-for-43) swiped three apiece. Yes, Garcia leads the Carolina League (eight more than the next in line). Infinitely entertaining infielder Juan Baez (remember him?) missed all the month of May, which saddens us. Appearing for the first time in 15 days, 19-year-old RHP Bishop Letson came roaring back. maintaining his 1.18 WHIP on the season with five scoreless. Remember, the 2023 11th rounder out of an Indiana high school made his pro debut this year with the Mudcats, having been held back from Maryvale action last summer (like teammate Josh Knoth). Newbie to affiliated ball, but well-armed with 24 games of indy ball experience, 25-year-old RHP Tyler Bryant will be targeted for Appleton soon enough (4.1 scoreless through his first three appearances, one walk, six K's). Final: ACL Giants 11, ACL Brewers 4, seven innings as scheduledBox Score and Game Log Rematch from Friday (a 5-4 A-Crew win) did not go as well, Maryvale down 9-1 after four innings in this Arizona matinee. Maryvale had ten baserunners, but only three via base hit. Two were singles, but the outlier knock was a two-run home run from 20-year-old Venezuelan catcher (DH'ing here) Edgardo Ordonez, his (wait for it) 7th of the season. This is Ordonez' 4th year in the system, his first two in the DSL. Ordonez only knocked one over the fence with Maryvale in 2023, so this explosion is quite the offensive breakout we've barely talked about. It was pointed out in our discussion thread, however, that there is work to be done behind the plate. As the ERA's in the box score will attest, the path to Carolina and beyond often begins with rough edges. Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 6, DSL Orioles Orange 1 Box Score and Game Log Team Uno moves to 12-8 on the season (standings), good for 2nd place in their division, now two games back of the team they defeated here. A dynamic trio of 17-year-old's dominated atop the lineup, (8-for-14 at the plate - five of those hits doubles, 2-for-3 on the basepaths). Third baseman Luis Pena leads the DSL in batting average (.493, not a mistype), is 5th in OBP at .547, 3rd in OPS at 1.263. We have talked up shortstop Jesus Made's season often, but less so with Venezuelan native Juan Martinez, who has seen action at 3B, SS and 2B, as well as three games in left field. Martinez now sports a .297/.370/.438 line. Speaking of 17-year-olds, compare the pretty lines for Manuel Moreno and Dariel Jaquez (Panama and the Dominican Republic, respectively), not just in this box score but when you compare their player pages, each having made their first four pro appearances thus far. Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 11, DSL Astros Orange 2 Box Score and Game Log It was a rough day for Orange-clad opponents, thanks to the two Cerveceros clubs. Lots of stat-padding for this lineup. Shortstop Moises Polanco (just assume everyone is 17 years old unless told otherwise) walked four times out of the leadoff spot, and his mates brought him across home plate each time, aided by Polanco's three successful base-stealing events. Eleven of CF Jose Anderson's hits have gone for extra bases (seven doubles, four HR's). Catcher Luis Corobo and first baseman Frederi Montero each had big games. It's worth noting that each of the four players mentioned here are all first-year players. What a great mound day. The three hurlers did not allow an earned run, walked one and fanned eight. Likewise, these were all first-year pro's, click on player pages should you wish to dig deeper (two have turned 18 years old, egad!) It's just the four full-season affiliates on Sunday, and the Shuckers have conveniently scheduled a 5:05 Central start for you all to flip to Jacob Misiorowski's start after the Brewers take the weekend series from the Cubs. Awesome, thanks for sharing. My dad received a kidney transplant from my stepmom that extended his life by several years. Likewise, a match against long odds. -
In 1976, a somewhat bizarre sci-fi movie called "Logan's Run" debuted. It was 23rd century futuristic, featuring "a society, on the surface a utopia, but soon revealed as a dystopia in which the population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of 30. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a "Sandman" who has terminated others who have attempted to escape death and is now faced with termination himself." You can read about it here, watch the trailer here and view a detailed, suggested well-done review here. Somehow with that plot line, the movie also spawned a brief TV series run. Heck, the movie also featured Farrah Fawcett just months before she would debut on TV's Charlie's Angels. It's available for free on Fawesome TV, and likely elsewhere. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Where is this leading? I get the sense we'll be enjoying many "Logan's runs", as in Logan Henderson runs, in future years. Runs of dominance, runs of changeups dancing within a power arsenal, runs of nodding approval from Brewer fans. Was that all a stretch? Of course, but over 23 years of Link Reporting, sometimes it's necessary to "change up" the intro (you see what I did there). Hope you all tolerated that diversion. Despite the rain in Appleton, it was a night of victories on the farm, where yeah, one of the DSL teams had to lose in their sibling rematch, but all the other affiliates waved the "W" flag. Let's start our journey. If you're already over 30 years old, you can exhale, you made it this far. Transactions: RHP Joel Kuhnel outrighted to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers (we await official word if Kuhnel accepted the assignment or elected free agency) INF/OF Angel Pereira activated from ACL Brewers’ 7-day injured list Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes (unavailable for this date) Final: Nashville 6, Jacksonville (Marlins) 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Capra's Four-Hit Night Helps Sounds Even Series in Jacksonville - Bullpen combines to shutdown Jumbo Shrimp over final five innings in 6-2 win While many of the Brewers transaction hawks have shown concerns about 40-man roster maneuvering (especially as players on the 60-man roster come off that list or are scheduled to soon), a reminder that 27-year-old (28 next week) utility infielder Vinny Capra has maintained his 40-man status all season. Capra is in his last option year, which means that even if the big-league infield stays extremely healthy and Capra is not needed in Milwaukee in 2024, it's unlikely the Brewers would carry Capra all offseason. Surely Manager Rick Sweet has been very happy to have the versatile Capra available. One heck of a game Friday evening for Vinny, sadly we don't have video out of Jacksonville. Speaking of the 40-man roster, yes, outfielder Chris Roller (.559 OPS) is still on it. We probably have seen the last of Garrett Mitchell's rehab stint, he was idle here and we'll soon learn the mystery transaction that will make room for Mitchell in Milwaukee. Fifty-eight games and 250 plate appearances into his 2024 season, Brewer Hicklen's OPS remains sky-high at .946. Yes, AAA offensive numbers are spiked, but this isn't Las Vegas, Reno, Albuquerque, etc. The one earned run allowed in four innings for Aaron Ashby is inconsequential. The five walks and wild pitch are consequential. Joey Wiemer is kind of a mess these days. Which stinks given he'd be a heck of a trade chip if producing. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 7, Pensacola (Marlins) 2 Box Score and Game Log Henderson Makes History in Dominant Start, Shuckers Down Pensacola, 7-2 - Miller hits first home run of the year, Shuckers clinch at least a split in series Guess that's why MiLB calls it "Pipeline", but this Shuckers' pitching staff is overflowing with promise - JUCO picks Henderson and Jacob Misiorowski, $10,000 signing Craig Yoho, NDFA Shane Smith, and there's more mound talent up and down the roster list. Sure, we have to temper enthusiasm because this is the Southern League after all, but how is the Milwaukee organization not the envy of the majority of other clubs right now? This makes for Link Report heaven. Have you been keeping up with Javik Blake's Biloxi pre-game interviews we link to regularly on our forum? We look forward to Javik snagging the 22-year-old Henderson for a chat soon. Trivia - current Nashville starter Chad Patrick was taken in the 4th round of the 2021 draft nine spots before Henderson. Mike Boeve last played on Thursday the 20th. To think just a few days ago, Zavier Warren was placed on the Development List, but with a renewed opportunity, he now has 11 RBI within his six-game RBI streak. Darrien Miller had 19 home runs in 178 games with the High-A Timber Rattlers, so the fact this was his first in 49 AA contests is a bit of a surprise. Always seems whenever the Brewers and Marlins face off, they do in tandem at both the AAA and AA levels. Postponed: South Bend (Cubs) at Wisconsin Friday’s Game Between Wisconsin and South Bend Rained Out - Doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Neuroscience Group Field The pre-game media notes can be found here, much will carry over to Saturday. Final: Carolina 5, Lynchburg (Guardians) 2 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Rally Past Lynchburg Are we sure Josh Knoth is his listed 6'1"? Catcher Blayberg Diaz is listed at 5'11". Regardless, Knoth is Steady Freddy, and it's nearly all good (game logs), especially as we remind you that the 33rd overall pick in last year's draft, is still 18 years old (we have August 10th circled on our calendar). But you know what the game logs tell us? Knoth has never gone an outing without walking at least one batter, and he has handed out at least two free passes in 11 of his 13 starts. Thirty walks in 50.2 innings to date. Work to be done. Spiked leg, schmiked leg, great to see Cooper Pratt back in the lineup after a very brief time away. Kid has future fan favorite written all over him: Final: ACL Brewers 5, ACL Giants 4, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log We have a walk-off! Down 4-2 heading to their final set of AB's, and not having scored since the first inning, the A-Crew took advantage of two walks to open the frame. *By the way, we're finding that the MiLB Gameday logs for these rookie level games have been a bit wonky as of late. Invisible in-game updates, and in this case, the final inning game log is a bit tricky to follow. But it looks like Maryvale's speed on the basepaths, a big Guardians error, and a wild pitch to clear the bases (with two outs), allowed the good guys to tie the game. 19-year-old RF Ramon Moreno then tripled (.783 OPS, but 24 K's in 58 AB's), before 2023 15th round high school pick Josh Adamczewski earned the Gatorade bath in the 109-degree conditions with a ground ball single pulled to right to end it. Rehabbing former big-league RHP Easton McGee allowed a line drive single to open the game, but quickly ended his 2nd rehab stint with a GIDP and a K. Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 7, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 1, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Behold Team Uno shortstop Luis Pena's MiLB Player Page, because it is beyond glorious. Let's just dub him "Video Game", because the numbers are ridiculous. Speaking of nicknames, 17-year-old Lukas Gozalez out of Panama has been a "Wizard" thus far, just one run allowed over four appearances and 9.1 innings despite a 1.75 WHIP. Checking in on the $1.7 million top bonus baby of the 2024 international class, Jorge Quintana has split time between short and third base (15 games in the field overall, two errors at SS). Through 77 plate appearances, a .262/.364/.415 line, and 3-for-6 on the basepaths. A 23.4 K% for the 6'2" Venezuelan switch-hitter. It's a Crazy-8 pack of games on Saturday due to the Wisconsin doubleheader. I better rest up. Enjoy your day, everyone! Where is this leading?
