We are already seeing a de-emphasizing of slug-heavy, defensively-challenged first basemen. My comment had more to do with the state of that position in the future, and that there won’t be enough high-end talent there. That will force GM’s to kind of reinvent the position, greater use of platoons, more emphasis on athleticism.

Fifty-eight games and 250 plate appearances into his 2024 season, Brewer Hicklen's OPS remains sky-high at .946. Yes, AAA offensive numbers are spiked, but this isn't Las Vegas, Reno, Albuquerque, etc. The one earned run allowed in four innings for Aaron Ashby is inconsequential. The five walks and wild pitch are consequential. Joey Wiemer is kind of a mess these days. Which stinks given he'd be a heck of a trade chip if producing.
