It was surprising to see Kahle struggle to the extent he did in 2021 at Wisconsin over 70 games. Kahle has never been placed on an injured list. but has started only 38 games behind the plate in 2022 and 2023 combined at the AA and AAA levels.. With Jeferson Quero at the Futures Game and 1B/C Wes Clarke getting the night off, Kahle made the most of his opportunity, coming within a triple of a cycle and adding a base on balls as well. Any time there's a final score such as this, a review of the game summary is a must, but you knew Voice of the Shuckers' Javik Blake's calls would find their way here: Power isn't why Isaac Collins was plucked from the Rockies' system in the minor league phase of Rule 5 last December (.394 career SLG), but the 5'7" switch-hitter does have six HR's from the RH side of the plate among his 17 career dingers. This is an offensive box score you'll want to savor, with perhaps the most critical sight being 3B Tyler Black's return after a three-game absence. Yanez signed with most of the others within the 2023 international class back in January, so injury must have held him back until now. We keep saying top $ middle infielder signee Filippo Di Turi keeps filling up box scores in his age 17 rookie season. DH'ing in this one, Di Turi reached base in all five plate appearances, we'd say that qualifies as filling up a box. Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy is helping spread the word: We need to get Quintin Berry to the Dominican to assist Di Turi's speed game, he was both successful and unsuccessful here and is now 5-for-13 in SB attempts. It's already DSL season three for Venezuelan catcher Eric Martinez, but his nice 2023 season flavored with XBH's continues, now at .270/.360/.476 through 75 plate appearances. A shortstop turned full-time outfielder, Chourio is batting .249 but has 25 extra-base hits, 23 steals and 50 RBIs in 71 games at the Double-A level, typically played by older players. "It's been a big challenge the game in Double-A. Every day you face pitchers who seem to have been pulled out of the big leagues. The competition has a better plan against you and that forces you to be more prepared to make adjustments," he said. "Regardless of the numbers, I think I'm a much better player now than when the year started," he said. Standing out above the rest has been normal for Chourio, who last year hit .288 with 30 doubles, 20 home runs, 16 steals and 75 RBIs at three levels (including a brief stint in AA) at 18 years old. In 2022, he also participated in his first Future All-Star Game, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. "It's exciting to be here again and share with all these future stars. It's an experience you don't have every day," Chourio said. He smacked a line drive one-out single to CF in the 4th, and would score on a clutch two-out double by another 17-year-old, corner infielder Gery Holguin, playing third base here.It was also a two-out single that netted an insurance run in the 8th, with CF Pedro Tovar (a Venezuelan rookie who only turned 17 two weeks ago) driving in 2nd-year Panamanian RF Irving Igualas. Igualas had walked with one out and advanced on a single by yet another 17-year-old, switch-hitting Jhon Bencosme (playing first base here). It's been a struggle for both Igualas and Bencosme in 2023 thus far, so nice to see them contribute.Rookie catcher (DH'ing here) Luis Garcia doubled in Holguin (who had singled) for the bonus insurance in the 9th.Rookie Venezuelan RHP Gabriel Colmenarez cruised through five shutout innings (three hits, one of them a double, 0 BB, 2 K). His countryman, LHP Jose Meneses, followed up with four frames of sweet mound work of his own, as your box score perusal revealed. Meneses did walk two in the 9th to bring the tying run to the plate, but ended the game on a swinging strike. You'll remember that Quintana missed all of 2021 and 2022 due to injury upon being acquired from the Mets for OF Billy McKinney. Not only did 2nd-year RHP Aneuris Rodriguez strand two inherited runners upon entering in the 3rd, he would toss 4.2 hitless, scoreless innings (2 BB, 6 K). Ten of his 15 pro appearances have been starts so the Brewers see something in the just-turned 19-year-old Dominican product. Two intriguing Brewers rookies reached twice. Bonus baby 17-year-old SS Filippo Di Turi seems to fill all his box scores in some fashion. His OPS is .847 through 86 AB's. Though 18-year-old CF Ramon Moreno is only hitting .224 to Di Turi's .337, Moreno's OPS rivals his teammate at .836. Fun line! 82 plate appearances translating to 58 AB's thanks to 21 (!) walks. Plus 24 K's, 6-of-7 in SB attempts, and six of Moreno's 13 hits going for XBH's, including two HR's. Put it all together, and that's kooky! Another seven-game slate on Saturday.
