  3. No need to announce and activate until they are ready to appear in a Maryvale game. For a lot of these players, they have not played in a live game in several weeks, or even a month or more in some cases. Need to ramp up on the side...

  5. It was an even lighter Monday than usual for Milwaukee farm teams, and while the DSL clubs took shelter mid-way through their contests, the boys in Maryvale could only hope for an escape that never came. But we plug away here, rain or shine, to bring you the latest. As always, thanks for visiting. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic TRANSACTIONS: Signed RHP Wilfredo Cordero and assigned to DSL Brewers-1 The 20-year old Cordero (from the Dominican Republic) spent nearly 26 months in the Rangers' organization (career 14.12 ERA with 43 Ks in 36.1 IP), but was recently released Oh yes, and this as well, though it won't be officially announced as a transaction on MiLB.com's wire until later today at the earliest: Final: ACL Giants Black 12, ACL Brewers 1Box Score / Game LogIt's too bad that with the spotlight to themselves, the Maryvale Crew had a clunker of a game. Things were fine after four innings, with the now 13-15 Brewers up by a 1-0 score. 17-year-old RHP Manuel Rodriguez was cruising, but the game of baseball can bite you quickly. A walk, a ground ball single, and a three-run HR to start the Giants' 5th ended the impressive Mexico native's day abruptly. Two struggling arms followed. RHP Brailin Rodriguez' first season back from Tommy John has been difficult. RHP Anthony Perez entered in the 9th and his game log is worth a look. How do you allow four earned runs on just one hit and no walks? Well, you hit three of the first five Giants to come to the plate, mix in a balk and a wild pitch, and then watch the San Francisco prospect catcher hit his 2nd HR of the game to secure vengeance for all the plunkings. 2022 3rd round middle infielder Dylan O'Rae singled and stole his 20th base in as many attempts. 20-year-old 2022 15th round catcher Satchell Norman celebrated the recognition the organization provided him below with a double to send his OPS to 1.103 in 62 plate appearances. Suspended by lightning with one out in the top of the Brewers 5th: DSL Guardians Red 1, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 0 Box Score / Game LogVia my co-worker on both DSL games for us @damuelle: DSL Brewers-1 was trailing DSL Guardians Red 1-0 in the top of the 5th inning, but had the bases loaded with 1 out. The teams are scheduled to play again in 10 days' time, they'll likely finish it up then. LHP Anthony Flores was the starting pitcher having a decent outing, while CF Yophery Rodriguez was 0-for-2 (no Ks) after an extremely rare 0-for-4 day (1 K) on Saturday. Suspended by rain after 2.5 innings: DSL Guardians Blue 5, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 0 Box Score / Game LogDSL Brewers-2 was trailing DSL Guardians Blue 5-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning and had not yet recorded a hit. The teams are scheduled to play again in three days' time, so maybe they'll actually finish it up then. RHP Bryan Rivera was the starting pitcher somewhat surprisingly getting roughed up in this game. Uh-oh, both Dominican clubs face Dodger entries Tuesday, the Cerveceros Uno and Dos are winless on the season versus the LA squads. Only the Mudcats play at home among the full-season clubs. 7. Sunday 7/16:Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "On this week's show Jaymes and Ryan were joined by special guest Spencer Michaelis to talk about the sweep of the Reds, the Brewers draft class and the upcoming trade deadline."Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "It was a great weekend for the Brewers after a sweep of the Reds. With the playoffs suddenly looking a little bit more like a strong possibility, it's time to think about how this team can improve its roster. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the upcoming trade deadline and name a bunch of potential names. Before that, they discuss the big sweep, with dynamite pitching performances from the starters and bullpen. But the offense ... still shaky. Now that the all-star break has come and gone, how can they fill some of the more glaring holes? Curt's take of the week in Curt Blanche offers one move the Brewers can make without making any trades, and Remembrew When looks back at a series of 1-0 games in the franchise's infancy. Then, JR is joined by Erik Kratz, former Brewers catcher on the 2018 team that went to the National League Championship Series. Kratz talks about his time in Milwaukee and career in general, both elements of the new book 'The Tao of the Backup Catcher.' Kratz also happens to host a regular baseball show on YouTube called 'Foul Territory' featuring a number of ex-big leaguers.***Postgame Shows for Brewers 4-3 win over the Reds -- Locked on Brewers with Chuck Freimund - "The Brewers Sweep the Reds and into First Place"Via 97.3's Baseball Postgame Show - Tim Allen hostsWTMJ with Dom Cotroneo: - Jerry Augustine is the guest
  8. This happens all the time when a player has an overseas opportunity. The DFA is done as a formality to remove from the 25-man and 40-man rosters. The release happens to then expedite things rather than waiting up to a week to clear waivers. Pannone all but had his overseas ticket in hand. Yes, he'd have preferred to be on a big league roster, but when no team claimed him, the Brewers made sure he could get on that plane.

  10. Final: Wisconsin 6, Peoria (Cardinals) 5 Via the Timber Rattlers' site: Wisconsin Gets Clutch Two-Out Hits to Rally Past Peoria - Rattlers top Chiefs 6-3 Pre-Game Media Notes (Download Link) via the team's Virtual Press Box Box Score / Game Log In a game that was available for all to stream live for free, RHP Jacob Misiorowski showed that skyrocketing notoriety isn't linear. His performance was OK, as the line in the box shows. In his four innings, 76 pitches (42 strikes), plenty of activity on the bases, mix in a wild pitch. Yet when needed, Misiorowski could conjure up a K (or two), as he did in the 2nd inning with men on 1st and 3rd with one out. It was a perfectly fine development appearance, as we slow down the expectation train coming off that Futures Game inning for the ages. July 6th was SS/3B Eduardo Garcia's most recent appearance, still avoiding for now a formal injured list stint. We should send kudos to the RH bullpen arms of birthday boy Miguel Guerrero (23), Shane Smith and Tanner Shears. Three walks in addition to the HR for 1B Ernesto Martinez, who turned 24 in June. Will be interesting to see if the Brewers offer to bring the minor league free-agent-to-be back for year eight in the system (includes the lost Covid season). Check out his monthly splits for June and July. Final: Myrtle Beach (Cubs) 6, Carolina 5 Areinamo Homers in 6-5 Loss in Myrtle Beach - The Mudcats snapped a four-game win streak with Saturday's loss to the Pelicans Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log That's a bummer of a loss, given the way the club battled back, down to their last strike in the top of the 9th (good job culling from the road game video feed): It also hurts given the Mudcats gave away three 7th inning runs on two critical errors. This was the first thing I thought of as it happened. Thanks, Spencer, for doing the side-by-side. To watch the first of the respective blasts in video form, click here. More Carolina highlights via the club's Twitter Media feed. Mudcats lost despite being 5-for-5 in SB attempts, check that portion of the box for some surprisingly high individual totals. Kay-Lan Nicasio is 20-for-25 on the season, Luke Adams 22-for-29.
  11. Sorry everyone, no formal full Link Report Sunday AM. Invested two hours in my barely air-conditioned den this AM, and somehow my browser and the normally very-recoverable Brewer Fanatic interface has failed me, losing a lot of my efforts. Looks like I can salvage two of the seven games, detailed below. Here's the full scoreboard with all the boxes and logs.
  12. One darkish cloud out of the Biloxi game. Freddy Zamora, again playing second base as has been the case as of late), exited after the 4th inning. Zamora was the baserunner at first base when SS Ethan Murray grounded into a tailor-made 6-4-3 double play. It was so routine that Zamora slid about 3/4 of the way to the second base bag to avoid the throw. Zamora then exits without apparent issue but didn't return. It puzzled Voice of the Shuckers Javik Blake when the top of the 6th began as well. Not sure if anything was announced later in the broadcast. For MiLB.TV subscribers, go to the 02:01:40 mark here.
  13. Keston Hiura was beaned off the helmet in the 6th, hit the deck, but remained in the game. Lucky. It's at the 02:34:30 hour/minute mark for MiLB.TV subscribers here.

  16. Pannone signed a deal to return to the Kia Tigers in Korea's KBO. The Brewers, like most teams, did not stand in his way.
  17. Catcher Alex Jackson (and presumably LHP Robert Gasser) are un-suspended. Jackson is in Nashville’s lineup tonight
  18. The Brewers have optioned reliever Jake Cousins to Nashville, meaning he's no longer on the big league injured list
  19. Happy 23rd Birthday today to recently-promoted Timber Rattlers RHP Miguel Guerrero
  20. We continue to update our non-drafted free agent thread with either news of new signings or new feature article finds on previously identified players.
