  1. $300 is nothing for these bars. Yes, they help by bringing in people to Miller Park, but they make a large chunk of cash off these people before and after the games so it goes both ways. As someone who frequently attends games and parks off Bluemound Rd., a number of those shuttles coming out of the parking lot, before the game especially, bully their way past and through cars, cutting people off with no care in the world. They desparately need police there to control the traffic. If you consider the season to be 6 months, that's a whole $50 a month for this. I think they're just upset because they're used to everything being free. I would guess they make up that $50 in about an hour at the bar...people just always need something to complain about.
  2. I do believe it'd be almost inconceivable for all of this to happen. The truth is, one trade in Major League Baseball is extremely difficult to complete, let alone a number of them. I find it interesting on people's varying thoughts on Parra's value versus Dunn. This was why I prefaced the trade ideas with the reality that every scout, GM, etc. has their own values and philophies to go by, which makes finding trade partners all the more difficult. I do know that Boston loves Fielder, and I would only give him up if they were surrendering a huge haul as the one I threw out there. According to one advanced midwest scout I speak with, if Boston misses the playoffs, they'd be more apt to make a move for Fielder because they have seen the impact Teixiera has had on New York (though he is a plus defender as well). Another scout I talk to says the Orioles have had Hardy targeted for a while and believe he would fit perfectly for them. While I agree, considering Hardy's rough 2009, that Arrieta might be a stretch for Hardy, this scout says they would definitely be motivated to move him to acquire a "proven shortstop with pop," if they can obtain a talented, veteran starter...and the Orioles should have some money to spend. Anyway, that's my two cents...it will be an interesting off-season to say the least.
  3. While I do have some contacts within MLB, it's almost impossible to get a true idea for what teams want and need in terms of both Major League talent and prospects. With that said, I thought I'd throw out an idea for improving next year's team. With some of this, I may only be including the bigger names in a trade - because as I mentioned - figuring out the value of prospects to each team is extremely difficult. While I would hate to see Fielder go while the Brewers still hold his rights another year, this may be the best time to get big value for him. Plan 1: Fielder to Boston for Buchholz, Ellsbury and Bard or Bowden Parra (whose value has declined, but still exists due to being LH, past success) + prospect to Washington for Dunn Hardy to Baltimore for Luke Scott and Jake Arrieta Assuming Atlanta doesn't pick up his $12 million option, sign Tim Hudson to 1-2 year deal depending on cost Take a chance on one other cheaper FA pitcher such as Justin Duchscherer or Kelvim Escobar That would set up... C - Rivera 1B - Dunn 2B - Weeks 3B - Gamel SS - Escobar LF - Braun CF - Ellsbury RF - Scott Bench: IF Counsell IF McGehee OF Hart OF Gerut C Salome Potential Pitcher Options (depending on trades, FA): Gallardo - SP Buchholz - SP Bush - SP Hudson - SP Looper - SP/RP Suppan - RP Duchscherer - SP/RP Escobar - SP Suppan - RP Hoffman - RP Coffey - RP Stetter - RP Villanueva - RP McClung - RP Bard - RP Bowden - SP/AAA Any thoughts? Criticisms are more than welcome, just be gentle.
  4. Milwaukee was the third team in the original talks about Boston and Cleveland being involved in a three-team trade...Obviously, the Indians and Sox found something that worked without needing the 3rd squad.
  5. I realize Corey Hart had a solid double Monday and is prone to some nice hot streaks, but at what point would we think about a left-handed option if he doesn't find some consistency? I'm not sure how much the Orioles like Luke Scott, but if he could be had for minimal prospects (1 pitcher, 1 position player), I could definitely see him helping the Crew offensively. He's got a .373 OBP and .549 SLG for a .921 OPS, with 14 HR in 195 ABs. He's on a 1-year, 2.4 MIL deal. The question is, is he a downgrade in the field and if so, does it outweigh his offense? I think if Hart continues to go up and down while sitting with an on-base of around .300 and OPS around .750, he might be worth the move. Any thoughts?
  6. I'm definitely interested. On behalf of all Brewers fans, thank you for your generosity.
  7. I was at the game and I yelled at 3-4 people for booing Nelson, it made me mad as well. I was doing everything I could to make them understand how difficult it is to only bat 2-3 times a week, one time per game. They kept arguing, "how do you not have one hit in 14 ABs.?" I guess it's just a matter of more fair-weather/casual fans coming to the games. I'm fine with booing if it's actually warranted...Nelson should not be a target, especially facing a tough lefty.
  8. On a similar topic, Dave Bush has lost three no-hitters in the 8th inning (one with Toronto, two with Milwaukee). What do the three hitters that broke up his no-hit bids have in common?
  9. From my experiences playing and coaching, it simply looks like his timing isn't quite there yet. Remember, he didn't get a ton on in-game reps in the Spring because of the World Baseball Classic and the tweak of his intercostal. If you recall, even Macha made mention to getting him as many ABs as possible once he got back from the WBC to catch up....so I'd say he's just a touch behind. Secondly, while he has great bat speed, his swing is a little longer than you'd like, further compounding the timing issue. Combine those two things and that's why teams have been able to get him out on pitches on the inner half of the plate. Give him a week or so and he should find his groove...barring injury.
  10. I'm not overly concerned about Braun yet. He looks like a hitter who's timing is a bit off...like he didn't have enough ABs in spring training. He had hits on off-speed stuff away in San Fran, when you don't need the bat speed. Since then, teams are coming in and he can't get the head out. Villanueva is tough to figure out. Looked stellar in his 1st two outings, not so much in the last two. I'm trying to remind myself, if this bad stretch was in July, it wouldn't seem so dire.
  11. I remember reading about a couple of things at Miller Park in regards to reduced prices on food and drinks. Just wondering if anyone knows where to locate the stands that sell these... $1 hot dogs and sodas OR A combo of hot dog, peanuts and a soda for $3. Any help locating these deals would be greatly appreciated.
  12. From now on, I'll refer to 20fry as the Easter Bunny for his random generosity.
  13. Aside from picking an attractive female for easy viewing, what actual characteristics do you look for in a sideline/dugout reporter in baseball? Knowledge of team/baseball... Inside info on players/coaches... Relaxed demeanor... Humorous at times, serious at others... Just throwing some things out there. I would like this to be a serious "discussion" as I know most of us watch a majority of the games on TV.
  14. What they need to do is get an up-and-coming talent with a ton of baseball knowledge. Let him/her drop in a few notes about some of the players througout the game. They don't even have to be on camera most of the time, that way there's less pressure and less memorization. If this person had a ton of baseball/Brewers knowledge, it would add more insight to the broadcast and allow Brian and Bill to focus on the game while the sideline reporter would throw in tidbits about the players' performance in certain situations, stadiums, parts of the season, etc. Get some more "inside" information for the fan that doesn't have access.
  15. If you'd like to voice your displeasure to FSN, as myself and many of my friends already have, here is the appropriate person to contact. Joseph Maar, Coordinating Producer at:
  16. I know Brewerfan has some pull when it comes to the Brewers. Will someone please get a petition going to make sure Telly Hughes does not appear on Brewers' broadcasts, especially as a "sideline" reporter. He is absolutely awful. I will gladly step in for him at a fraction of the cost. Brewers' fans, I don't know if any of you realize how bad this guy is. I seriously don't know how he has a job as good as this.
  17. Despite his rough game tonight, I really like Blake DeWitt. A solid LH bat, can play 3B and 2B, mediocre power but a quality on-base man.
  18. Alright, it's official...I want Matt Cain on the Brewers next season. I just threw a no-hitter with him in Wrigley Field on MLB The Show. I would have been a perfect game, but Randy Winn dropped a fly ball in the 6th. Clearly, the video game is a solid source of projected real-life performance. Make it happen, Doug!
  19. I have a feeling that as the good vibes of getting to the playoffs wear off and he, along with Melvin and Co. start evaluating everything, the monetary ceiling will come down a little bit. Of course, you never know. Attanasio sometimes seems like he'd rather play the role of "fan" first...which is fine by me if it helps us win.
  20. I think Attanasio feels more comfortable giving more money up front than being "stuck" at the back end of the contract. I'm guessing he also thinks to compete with New York, LA, etc., he'll have to offer more per year to compensate for 1 or 2 less years on the contract, which the big markets may be willing to try.
  21. I have worked in the Milwaukee media for 5 years and have a handful of reputable sources. The word appears to be that Attanasio (not Melvin necessarily) is willing to commit 5 years, $140-142 million. He is not going to go beyond 5 years and the 5/$142mil is an absolute high barring option considerations and incentives. Again, not saying they will offer this, but may give an indication of how much they "might" want CC to stay. The interesting thing is, there is no indication as to what Melvin's ideas are.
  22. Yoshii, I was inserting Aubrey Huff at 1B (not 3B) if we traded Fielder for a pitcher. I can't imagine his defense at 1st is worse than Prince's.
  23. Backupcatchers wrote: I know you said it is just your opinion, but I have heard and read nothing but rave reviews about Molitor as a player. Guys like Gorman Thomas and Sal Bando had made comments about Molitor being the "Porsche" of that era, but you wouldn't know it based on how he played the game, treated teammates and did anything to help the team - including playing every position except pitcher and catcher. Other guys like Pat Listach, Daryl Hamilton and Jaques Jones (I think it was him...I know it was a Twins player), have credited Molitor with teaching them the right way to play, how you can help the team in various ways and how to always watch/learn. I believe Listach and Hamilton even wore #4 at various times in honor of him. So, I'm not sure what you saw that appeared selfish, I just don't recall hearing any of that (except, of course, his drug addiction).
  24. If the Brewers deal Fielder for a pitcher, is Aubrey Huff A) Somewhat easily attainable from the Orioles and B) Worth bringing on as a one-year stopgap at 1B? This would be assuming Gamel switches over to 1st base for the 2010 season. Huff has had some good years, including 2008, and his career splits versus lefties aren't as bad as Blalock's.
