  1. Quick update for anyone who is interested... the Brewers came through for me. I had several conversations with the Manager of Community Relations. She was very polite, very receptive, and eventually put together a package that included an autographed photo, a bobblehead, and a poster. My wife's grandparents are apparently ecstatic. This was one class-act move by the Brewers organization, and more specifically, by Katina Shaw. Thanks Katina.
  2. I don't think he's expected to make it to spring. They/we/I could be wrong. If he does, maybe I'll try that route myself. Thanks for the idea.
  3. He doesn't feel well, but I don't believe he's in any real "pain"... yet. Truth be told, I've just really always liked him, quite a bit in fact. And that's unusual given the climate between my wife's family and I. I'm not looking to gain any points or anything, just make one person I've always connected with feel better, even if only a little.
  4. That's a very kind offer, but I want you to keep your ball. Personalized, I think, is the feather in the hat. Thanks.
  5. For anyone curious, or following... I spoke with Brewers PR. It looks like the chances are slim for two reasons; 1) PR has no real access to players during the off-season, and 2) because it is suggested that I send "proof" of illness to fast-track progress. I absolutely understand, as I'm sure they get a lot of requests, and this procedure is in place to weed out the ones that aren't so serious, or just plain BS. Needless to say, I have limited access to "proof", and I'm not about to ask an ailing man (or his distraught wife) to provide it, especially when it was meant to be a surprise. I sent an email to Don Mitchell to see if he is JJs current agent, then it is recommended on the site that I send (by mail) any requests, and addressed directly to the athlete... which means it won't stick out from any regular fan mail. When I was a kid I sent letters with a SASE to get cards autographed, with some success. Perhaps I'll try that route. I'm afraid in the time it takes though, we'll lose him in the process. He was given about 2 months yesterday.
  6. I called and left a voicemail with the PR person I was forwarded to. Thanks guys.
  7. Hitting a dead-end, despite my mad Google skills. Seal at least used to work for Wasserman Media, but the Wasserman site doesn't list JJ or Seal. So if anyone can help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
  8. Nevermind. Got it. Mike Seal. Now if anyone knows how to get in touch with Mike....
  9. If Off-Topic is a better forum for this, I apologize. Please move if appropriate. I am wondering who JJ's agent is. I Googled it and came up with nothing. I ask because my wife's grandfather has recently fallen ill. Him and his wife are some of the biggest Brewers fans I know (for old folks). They love their Brewers. JJ is their favorite player (she thinks he's cute - who doesn't?). I thought getting in touch with the ball club, and his agent would be appropriate avenues to ask for a personalized autograph made out to my wife's grandfather, wishing him well from their favorite ballplayer would be a huge spirit booster for them. Thanks in advance for any help. P.S. It's just a coincidence that my handle is a play on JJ's name. I love the guy, but this isn't for me.
  10. I'm already going with my pops, but my brother and a buddy expressed an interest in tagging along, even though they don't have tickets. So count me in, pretty please. Thanks!
  11. Sure, Albert went up on my list a little too, but so did Carlos.
  12. Prince Fielder I said it.
  13. And at least 0.8 seconds of that was him admiring his shot. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Gotta call poppycock on this one too. I'm not hear to toot my own horn, but I've run over 30 miles this week, and I have a 15 mile run slotted for Sunday. Being fit is my livelyhood, and there's more of us out there than you obviously realize. I could crush prince in a 90-foot sprint, or a 26.2 mile run.
  15. Source or speculation? Dude... There are 5 on the Brewers roster right now. CC Prince Soup McClung Gagne And realistically, both Rivera and Turnbow are 230+. Hell, even Sheets is listed at 226 and he's "smallish". NL Central 230+ on roster: Cubs: 4 Reds: 5 Stros: 4 Pirates: 4 Cards: 7 Take a look at the White Sox roster sometime... 14 of them. Average weight is 226.
  16. he's not necessarily washed up in the sense that he's useless, it's just that Dye, Quentin, Thome and Swisher are all better than him so it's hard to see how he fits in Chicago, especially when you consider that he is an atrocious CF these days and has only played 2 innings at 1st in his career. I agree, I just feel like there's been a little more Jr. bashing going on than necessary. What's up with Swisher though? .230?
  17. Yeah, Jr. is so washed up that last year he struggled mightely by limping along to a .277/.372/.868 with only 30 homers and 93 RBI in 144 games. He was only 37 then though, so 38 must be a magic number for sucking. Nevermind that he's in middle of a current 12-game hit streak. Somehow I also don't think it matters that he's tied for 4th in the NL among outfielder with 7 assists either.
  18. Count me in on that group of disbelievers that Albert is 28. Dude looked 28 when he broke in. He has little or no hair left on top, and while I know a couple of guys that started going thin on top at 28 (me), it's not really all that common to be complete cue-balled by 30 like he'll be.
  19. Well, he's 93 short, and at his 2008 pace, he could hit another 8 this year, putting him 85 short going into 2009. At 39 next year, I figure he'll need to play another 4 seasons to get close, or until he is 43. I don't know why, but I just suspect he's in it until he just physically can't do it anymore. I believe he's a FA after 2009 though, so we'll see if he retires, or signs with an AL team to DH.
  20. I believe Griffey will play until he is crippled, and end up with over 3,000... and 700 to boot.
  21. There are Dunkin Doughnuts every 50 feet in Chicago. No wonder the po-po is never around when needed. http://www.copslovedoughnutshops.com/uploaded_images/copslovedonuts_1-731221.jpg edit: That's a Chicago cop, by the way.
  22. Typical Chicago dirtballs. And is it me, or is just about everyone in that video fat? Why are people in Chicago so fat?
  23. Can someone tell me what Maddux just ate?
  24. His OBP in May was .355 and is .351 for his career. I'm not sold he can't be a little more patient yet.
