  1. Only funny part was when Dwight was impersonating the other guys. I thought that was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I thought when Michael was doing his Elvis impersonation "Thank you, Thank you a lot"
  2. Right before that play their player (can't remember who it was) lost control of the ball and was the first player to touch it again. That should've been a travel. I think technically it's a 2x dribble -- however, I agree there should have been a whistle. That was immediately before the goaltend no-call. Great game. It got sick when Dawkins starting jamming in all those threes, but we got some great defensive stops.
  3. I don't think any of these moves that we have made in the off-season are getting us closer to decent pitching -- I just think we are shedding payroll.
  4. I'm not sure why all the "non-tender Bush" talk has come up... I'd still take him over Suppan or Looper at this point. Bush is on a lot of "non-tender lists". I am sure the Brewers have considered it. The difference between Bush and Suppan, is that non-tendering Bush saves money, while we are paying Suppan one way or the other. I'm starting to think that Melvin is the Yost of GM's I don't think that this is fair to DM. I don't think Yost was ever a good manager. I do think DM did some very good things for the Brewers (and Texas), to get them out of the cellar. When they traded for Lopez the need was clearly for pitching. Lopez's D wasn't going to magically improve the pitching. In this sense Melvin wasn't even thinking a move ahead. What we gave up for Lopez, would have not gotten us pitching.
  5. I'm afraid I don't have advice for either of you, but if FTJ calls a heating company for help, and continues to describe the furnace as "Yosty," I hope he records the call so we can hear the reaction. Well -- My son and I were looking at it, and it would clunk a number of times and then quit -- and my son said "It sounds like if it clunked one more time it would fire up", and I thought to myself, that sounds like something Ned Yost would have said "We were one clunk away from blowing heat" -- hence I thought "Yosty" was an apt adjective. It's probably a control unit that will cost 1/4 of what you paid for the furnace. That's what mine was. Thankfully it was a little diaphragm that needed to be replaced. Something that they check when they do service calls -- Thankfully it should cost me only ~$100 or so. Whew.
  6. The chances Lopez would not accept arbitration and go elsewhere were probably better than staying a Brewer I think the only certainty is that Lopez would do better in Arby than on the FA market (for one year). I just don't think the Brewers should've ever traded for Lopez if they knew they weren't going to offer him arbitration. With Weeks hurt and JJ tanking, the Brewers needed someone to play 2b -- sort of like when we acquired Graffy or Bell. We didn't give up much to get Lopez, and he certainly produced -- however, I don't think we'd get much if anything for him in trade next season. As I looked through all of the Arby offerings -- it seems like the default setting was "decline". Brian Shouse got offered Arbys though, I thought that was interesting.
  7. Well, I won't slink into the shadows after saying at the time of the trade that it was almost certain that Lopez would be offered arby and was completely wrong. If it makes you feel any better, I was one that was saying Lopez wouldn't be offered Arbys and I don't feel very good about what happened yesterday -- I feel like I knew what Melvin would do, but it seems like the wrong decision was made. Also a very dumb decision by the Brewers. 1.) I don't think it is an absolute certainty that Lopez will get a multi-year deal. Lopez has burnt some bridges, and is not a capable backup at SS. Getting a multi-year deal remains to be seen. 2.) If Weeks is really healthy, the Brewers do not really have a need for Lopez. If Weeks can only play 90-100 games, Lopez would have been handy to have. 3.) I don't think we can assume that "trading Lopez" will be easy, especially if we do not know what he would have been paid in the Arby process. 4.) At the end of the day, we need to get pitching -- Does not offering Lopez Arbys really get us closer to acquiring pitching? I am not sure it does. I feel sort of dirty for defending Melvin. Gross. Gabe Gross.
  8. Hello all -- My furnace seems to be Yosty today and not providing heat to the house -- It is a Lennox Pulse 21, gas and electric ignition. The blower doesn't seem to start up.. Any ideas? Happy Thanksgiving!
  9. Iron Maiden rules. Yes they do. I appreciate them more and more as I get older. And as I said to you before, your son is like Jared Allen.....but sober. He holds his liquor well.
  10. Funny Story -- My son comes hope the other day, and says "Guess what, Ron Dayne's wife is the guidance counselor at our school". So I retorted with "Wow, did you know Terry Bradshaw's wife was the guidance counselor at my school?" -- So, he mumbled something under his breath and left the room. The boy came home yesterday with a signed helmet. Doh'!
  11. FTJ: Your son has some competition. FtJ Jr. would clean this guy's clock http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif That first clip is hilarious -- you have 2 dudes waltzing, and then the QB standing like a statue, and then BAM!. Good stuff. Okay, they do not need to be playing full pads football at age six. I'd probably agree with this.... Flag FB can be pretty lame, however, I think that once you go to pads, then the big boys cannot carry the ball -- so you have some kids that will never get to carry the ball if you go to pads that early. FTJ, nice work on the video and the kid has some serious passrushing skills. Thanks! -- I had a lot of fun putting that together, I have to get cracking on the 5th grade sequel. He does a pretty good getting rid of blockers, and his tackling technique has improved. He is a devastating blocker as well -- however, blocking highlights are sort of lame. The final play had me laughing pretty good! Yeah -- That play was actually a 4th down stop. People were freaking out. It was pretty exciting. Great tune as well. Agreed. Somewhere I hope that the good people of Grimm Reaper are rejoicing in knowing their musical effort has been immortalized in a 4th grade FB montage. Here is another video I put together -- I think you will like the song selection -- This is from the last game of the season last year, and they let Jr. carry the ball. Your kid does have some competition from the second video.....those hits are freakin great IF that kid was *that* good, he'd have at least some Skid Row, or White Lion background music.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Has another catcher ever had a better season offensively? Piazza 1997 would be close, if not better -- of course he was never a good defensive catcher. Javy Lopez had a comparable season at about the same time The seasons though that stand out to me would be Johnny Bench's 1970 and 1972 seasons, he had a couple of great seasons offensively while redefining the position defensively. What he did in those 2 seasons would be similar to what Mauer is doing now. Roy Campanella also had a space of 5 seasons where he won 3 MVPs. Mauer is certainly treading on elite ground.
  13. Congrats! You have a daughter now. Her mood will change at some point. Kind Regards, FtJ
  14. Please stop making these posts. I think you could have quit here, and probably made your point more effectively and efficiently. Sometimes less is more.
  15. I've said it before that Lopez is capable of being in the lineup virtually everyday rotating between 3 positions Lopez is a terrible SS, and really capable of playing only 2b for any significant playing time.
  16. Good for Craig -- He certainly deserves the chance to play WS Hero again.
  17. The Fielding Bible says Wilson is the #1 SS in MLB. That's worth $5M/year. Wilson had an $8.4M option for 2010 -- so paying Wilson $10M for 2, is probably better than picking up that option.
  18. There is no way the Brewers offer Looper arbitration. They're already paying him $1M. If they offer arby and he accepts, he'd be guaranteed at least 80% of last year's salary, plus the $1M, and there's a decent chance he'd actually get a raise since he's a durable "winner." As Logan points out, Looper is NOT guaranteed 80% in Arbys. However I think you are 100% right that there is no way Looper is offered Arby by Melvin (even though he is type B) -- as Looper would probably would stand to win more in Arby than his 2010 option called for. I don't like Looper, however, I agree with others here in that I think you are going to pay $5M for any veteran to start 30+ games -- so picking up Looper's option would be somewhat defensible -- what makes the arby path bad though, is that Looper would be given more money through Arby than simply picking up his option would have called for. If DM offers Looper arby, he should be fired... out of a cannon into Lake Michigan.
  19. Are they Electric?
  20. If you're thinking of abandoning the people who gave you thousands of dollars, you might want to keep it quiet until you make up your mind. I believe I read that Brewer's contract calls for the Brewers to pay for his tuition if he opts to play football. I am not sure what is so stupid about Brewer's recent actions. making that public does not seem very bright. Al, you just said something on a public forum that did not seem very bright, and then proceeded to defend it. Regardless of the fact that you do this sort of thing often, I think most people here would concede that you are of at least average intelligence. You should extend the same courtesy to your targets. I hope you learn something from this.
  21. He lives on Sesame Street dumass
  22. The thing is, he's shown nothing that makes me think he's ready to hit in the big leagues right now. Exactly. I am not sure what Gomez has done for people to expect he will have the starting CF job given to him.
  23. Would you walk him with Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer behind him?? I wouldn't walk Gomez if he was batting 8th
  24. Gomez may never hit 300. Gomez may never OBP .300
