  1. well as of right now, he is at .380, 12HR, and 35 RBIs .461 OBP Year Avg. HR RBI OBP 2001 .331 34 126 .430 2002 .292 42 128 .405 2003 .288 25 93 .412 2004 .316 30 106 .450 2005 .293 24 82 .411 (missed first month with torn ACL recovery) 2006 .315 45 136 .420 2007 .278 34 102 .386 C'mon zzzman 4th best 1st baseman in the NL Central? This just proves he has been underrated compared to other first baseman. Look at these numbers again Oh, and he has already stolen 6 bases this year. I know he isn't a base stealer, but he also isn't some piece of lard lying around 1st base either.
  2. I am bringing this topic into discussion because of some assessments made by those on this board the last couple of years. I know last year and the beginning of this year there have been those who are adamant about rather having Prince over Berkman (if there was a choice of course, I know this is a hypothetical). And I just can't bring myself to understand it. Berkman to me has been underrated his whole career.I know we all think he is a good hitter, but I dont believe people realize how good. The guy has 20 hits in his last 32 at-bats, that is just crazy. Absolutely raking. Last year was supposedly a down year for him, and he still hit .278 with 34 HR and 102 RBI. He will undoubtedly surpass those this year. So my question is, who do you take? (Especially TooLive...you usually seem to make good arguments, but you can't possibly make one on this...or prove me wrong) Not counting age and salary, because if we were counting age we would take Craig Counsell over Ted Williams...
  3. Dont know about losing streaks, but the Astros started 15-30 in 05 and went to the World Series, of course they had Clemens, Pettite, Oswalt, Lidge, etc.
  4. TooLive was also shocked when I said I would rather have Berkman than Prince, and disagreed that Weeks was an upgrade over Matsui. If you are just looking at pure power, than maybe, but I like to consider all of the intangibles. Those hold water. But that is what is great about these subjects, they are just opinions. To stay on subject, I don't agree with some of the moves Yost makes, but you can only play the hand your dealt. And right now, he really can't help that the starting rotation is in shambles, or that Gagne has blown 5 saves, or that the offense hasn't been what was (that dreaded word) projected. There aren't many options to counter with. You can shake things up just to shake em, but with the same ingredients you are likely to get similiar results.
  5. dont say anything, just look at the numbers
  6. I would be hard-pressed to say the pitching is better. The brewers bullpen has the worst ERA in the NL. And I don't think you can put Prince on par with Berkman, and I have trouble saying Rickie Weeks is better than Kaz Matsui. Rickie Weeks- .197 4 HR 9 RBI 6 SB 31 games Kaz Matsui - .290 1 HR 10 RBI 4 SB 16 games (roughly half of Weeks) Just an opinion of course, except for the stats shown. And luckily, it is only May 6th. And I doubt BP had the Rockies going to the playoffs, let alone the World Series.
  7. I don't think the Brewer's starters are much better than the Astros at this point, and the Astros bullpen seems to be better
  8. he doesn't have to be in the box...He just can't be past the line that is closer to home plate
  9. Berkman's had Sheets # his whole career
  10. I am from the Houston area and an Astros fan, so I can try to help you out I guess. There are a couple of bars right outside the stadium, The Bus is one I know of for sure. There isn't a whole lot right next to the stadium, but if you go west down Texas Ave a half mile or so to Main St. there are plenty of bars that direction. I assume you are staying at the Hilton Americas, I was actually there two weekends ago for a job interview. That is also right next to the Toyota Center. Im not to sure I would wander off too far at 2 in the morning, but if you have a group of people it probably would be ok, if you don't mind the bums bothering you. Galveston is alright, you can see the seawall and the beaches, however the water is brown as it is all up the Texas coast, at least til you get down to Corpus. But it doesn't mean it isn't a good time. You could also do the NASA thing if you wanted. Houston is pretty big, and the traffic sucks, just a pre-warning. Of course you can always just shine up your boots, go out and party it up.
  11. The Astros made the playoffs 6 times out of the last 11 years, I don't think calling them rudderless is a fair assertion. Anything is possible in this division. Biggio wasn't very good the last few years, but it isn't like Chris Burke was lighting things up either. Biggio was not the reason the Astros didn't make the playoffs the last two years.
  12. Pence was highly regarded in the stros farm system. He was drafted in the first round and had torn up the minors the last year. Fans had been calling him to be called up for a while, and he was the best hitter in spring training before being sent down. Very similiar to Braun in my opinion. The Brewers and Astros usually seem to let their prospects get more seasoning in the minors than most other clubs.
  13. There is still a lot of baseball to be played, this order could change a few times before the year is over
  14. yeah you got me there, I know he broke Don Baylor's modern day record, but now they are saying 2nd to the all time record, who knows, I don't really consider that stat a huge deal anyway. But you are right, I need to proofread!
  15. I am an Astros fan, and find it somewhat laughable that people still are trying to find ways to say Biggio shouldn't be a Hall of Famer. His numbers: 7-time Allstar(including 2 positions, catcher and 2nd) 3,002 hits 658 doubles(most ever by a right-hand hitter) 286 homers 413 steals 1828 runs scored 1152 rbi's .282 career average also all time modern day HBP leader all time NL leader in lead-off homers I truly believe if he would have played in a bigger market this would be a no-brainer. I personally think he is a first ballot HOF anyway. However, I am looking for some non-partisan views, and ya'll seem to be baseball educated and can give me your thoughts.
  16. Again, I wouldn't worry too much...Leaving runners on base is what the Astros do. Unless Spurling wants to pitch today
  17. Being an Astros fan, it is just another day. This tends to happen quite a bit actually, you just get used to it is all
  18. The bullpen is pretty much the same, only difference is Buckholz and Nieve at the back of the rotation. But if you get Clemens back Nieve would probably go to the bullpen, without even knowing when Backe gets back. The bullpen has been a lot shakier this year, but the same guys are there.
  19. I am having a hard time trying to figure out why some people on here think the BrewCrew are better than the Astros. The stros went to the World Series last year, and the league championship the year before. Their team is relatively unchanged, and might get Roger Clemens back here before too long. They might not be the most glamourous team, but they have been one of the top teams in the NL for the better part of the last ten years. Just a little confusing to me, thats all.
  20. Why, what did we do, I have been to Wisconsin, and Milwaukee, I had no problem with the people there, great pitching tonight by the way
  21. If the astros win, it will be the first time they have been .500 as a franchise since they were 6-6 in the inaugural 62' season. Oddly enough the team that made them 6-7 was the Milwaukee Braves. Pretty interesting
  22. I am an Astros fan and stumbled across this site a couple of years ago to keep up with a couple of teammates of mine in high school that Milwaukee had drafted. Anyway I read it every now and then, and just remember, we were 15-30 last year and it looked really bleak. There are still 150 games to go, don't get down just yet.
