I dont hate leaving counsel in. If he pinch hits he probably puts the righty in to face them. Although im sure at bat would have been better then the counsel at bat. He should have pinch hit for gross...that was just silly.

Ned sure did the scrubs a favor there, I can't find any logic to explain that. He's leaving our 5th outfielder in to face the lefty, when our better hitting right handed OF's sit on the pine. There is NO logical explanation for that.

Okay . . . I am going to guess why Yost did not pinch hit.

1) You need a pinch hitter for the pitcher coming up.

2) You will need a pinch hitter later in the game for the next reliever who has to bat. . . or you will need someone to go in after a double switch.

Miller, Hart, Mench, Graffanino are left. Miller can't pinch hit because you need a backup catcher. Perhaps Ned was more concerned about being short-handed later?

Oh... this completely makes sense now. If we would have batted a righty and got a hit, he would have had to pull Dessens and tire out the pen.

You play for NOW. We had a chance to score there, which may not come along again. Then all that planning doesn't mean jack.

men on 1st and second why not go with Mench.

keeping those guys on the bench does us no good later if we don"t score some runs.

Yost still makes you go HUH

Isn't Villy supposed to be a long man too?

If he gets a hit, there's a chance to score a run and be down only one. I'd rather be in that spot than down 2 with a bunch of guys on my bench.

Heck, Hart puts a charge into one and we're up 1. Angry. Very angry.

From looking at the pitch-by-pitch, it looks like Yost sent Gross up there to sacrifice. This could be why he did not pull him, all he wanted GG to do was advance the runners. It would have been interesting to see if that was successful, would he have let Counsel bat?

GG should never face lefties, everevereverevereverever.

Could it be that Yost kept his lefties in so they can face Mr. Demster later in the game?

Thats about the only thing I could think of that would make a tiny bit of sense.

Braun has to be close to getting a call up.

Even if he makes an error every other game, he will drive in more runs than he costs. Spare the pitch counts a little, but small price to pay to add another bat to the lineup. 3B bat is dormant, no matter which 50 year old Yost trots out there.

I dont think this changes anything, he will be up when he is ready, while the increased offense would help. I think he will be up when we need a dh

Gross didn't try to move the runners over. He tried to bunt for a hit the second pitch. Don't think there was any intention of a sacrifice.

Ahhh... okay, so much for that reasoning. Now I have nothing, still confused and inning later.
