TWIB - E/I

"This Week in Baseball" use to be a weekly religious experience when I was growing up in the 70's and early 80's. Now, with the saturation of baseball and sports on TV, it doesn't have nearly the draw that it use to have. However, I still happen to catch it once in a while.

Does anyone know what the "E/I" in the upper right hand corner during TWIB is all about (actually, It's not even in the corner, it's about a third of the way towards the center of the screen)? Does it really need to be there the entire show, especially if most people watching (such as myself) do not even know what it means??

It stands for educational and informative. I have no idea why it has to be there all show.

the E/I thing does indeed stand for "educational and informative". i remember reading something about this sometime back where all stations have to offer a certain number of hours of "educational and informative" programming each week/month/etc. here is the authority on it...wikipedia:
