Help - DVD sticking

A couple of weeks ago a DVD someone burned for me would "stick", or freeze/play slow in my DVD player. Wasn't sure if it was the disc or player causing the problem.

 

Last weekend rented a DVD and it played fine. Tried to play it a second time and it was also sticking.

 

Never heard of this problem before. Would my player require cleaning? Thanks.

What exactly do you mean by sticking? Is it pixilating, or just the frame is freezing?

It will play, then occassionally "freeze"/stop, or stutter and/or slow down.

How old is the player? Are the DVD's scratched or dirty?

I've had issues watching some recorded DVD's in my DVD player, but when I watch them using my computer's DVD drive they work fine. I think a lot of it has to do with certain types of recordable DVD's being better quality than others. It could also be the type of disc (DVD+R vs. DVD-R).

The player is about four years old, but used infrequently. I could always test the disc on the in-laws player.

 

I'll check the disc for scratches.
