Brewers have signed SS Edwin Maysonet and C Shawn Riggans to minor league deals with invites to ML camp.

Maysonet, 29, has 76 big league at-bats (major and minor league stats). Luis Cruz has no options left and may wish to choose free agency if removed from the 40-man roster next spring, so Maysonet has a good chance to be Nashville's full-time shortstop.

Riggans, 30, with 188 big league at-bats, was let go by the Mets last season and ended the season with New Jersey of the independent Can-Am League (major and minor league stats).

How many catchers is that now? They might have to have infielders throwing to them in spring. There may not be enough pitchers to keep them all busy.

I was thinking the same thing JB. I don't think it's a bad thing. If you have a spot open and no obvious candidate for it why not get a bunch of castoffs and see if one sticks?
