Marcum injured himself striking out at the plate. He looked to be in quite a bit of pain. I doubt he makes his next start.

If he looks OK and he says he's OK, it's pretty hard not to let the guy pitch, especially if Dr. Raasch OKs it and you have absolutely nothing in the way of MRI imagery or other objective medical evidence to keep him from pitching. I may have erred on teh side of caution anyway, but it's not tantamount to baseball malpractice to let a guy play if the only reason for keeping him out is because you're scared.

On the bright side, he pitched pretty well (the homer was good hitting, not bad pitching, imo), so I guess it's like getting three bonus innings that now the rest of the staff doesn't have to cover.

Yo said he could and did pitch with an ACL injury too.

I think it was the hip strain again. But he winced in pain after that swing and looked flustered/upset on the bench after it. So my first impression is that he made it at lease as bad as it was after the Sox game. I guess we will find out later.

His next scheduled start wouldn't be until 1 week from tonight so as long as this isn't serious, a week's rest should really help.

So maybe they should have rested Shaun until the road interleague schedule resumes.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Right, but that's not exactly apples to apples there. That was diagnosed on the mound, they didn't have MRIs at that point, or give him a work out. Hardly comparable.

Didn't look like anything too bad, probably just tweaked it and they don't want to risk it. With off days on either side of the twins series, they should be able to skip his next start (in the Yankees series) and use the other 4 guys on normal days rest. Then put Marcum back in the series in Minnesota after 9 or 10 days off. And if he still can't go, then I guess Estrada. But either way if he misses a start they should be able to use a 4 man rotation the next time through.

Man Casey is slow. Glad that wasn't Rickie running out that ball that Yuni hit. Pretty sure he'd try to extend it to a double.

I think Marcum will be fine. Just looked like he tweaked it. He wasn't grimacing too bad as he walked off.

Certainly not apples to apples but it does not raise confidence in a medical staff.

during the radbio broadcast they were talking about limiting his innnings. Why pitch him if he is limited? It just makes no sense. factor in the match-up against price and the decision gets even worse.

I'd be a heck of a lot more worried about them missing the ACL than Marcum's flexor. The muscle injury is much more of a tolerance deal on teh part of the player. The ACL is a structural issue that trainers can diagnose rather quickly and with a high degree of confidence in the vast majority of cases. Maybe baseball guys don't see as many knee injuries as others but that was bad miss.

Because 3 years ago they didn't know the severity of Yo's injury while on the mound, and then because Marcum re-injured himself today? If your concern is based on different events 3 years apart, I'd say they're doing okay.

Looks like another great turnout at MP. Impressive on a Wednesday afternoon.

Marco doesn't look half-bad today either. Worried about a second time through the lineup though.

Marcum could rest until a week from Sunday if need be. He could actually go on the 15 day DL and miss only one start.
