Yuni B and McGehee are pathetic baseball players and they are our #5 and 6 hitters. Those spots need to be fixed by the return of Weeks and promotion of Green. Stop delaying on the latter.
I tend to agree with you with one exception... This team has GREAT chemistry to it right nowand is winning... They have to be careful to not rock the boat too much! Getting Weeks back is a given (which will move McGehee and Yuni down the order) but don't expect much more than that...

So you platoon Green and McGehee. It's far from an ideal platoon because McGehee has stunk up the joint against lefties, but the important thing is that Green would eat into half his AB's. That should keep McGehee and his teammates happy enough. If they're not, they're not very realistic or accountable. Roenicke/Melvin have given McGehee more than enough leeway.

An order of: 1. Hart, 2. Morgan/Hairston, 3. Braun, 4. Fielder, 5. Weeks, 6. Green/McGehee, 7. Betancourt/Hairston, 8. Lucroy looks much more championship caliber.

I wouldn't argue with Lucroy swinging on a 2-0 count. He should be swinging at strikes and trying to get extra base hits, especially with two outs. While its nice to clear the pitcher, I think anyone in the 8-hole shouldn't always be thinking 'walk' before each pitch.

Betancourt is now 1 for his last 27 and 5 for his last 39. As a few of us mentioned during his hitting surge...it was only a matter of time before he reverted to his crappy offensive norms. But, I think it might be a good thing for the long term success of this team because if Yuni struggles after Rickie comes back then there's a really good chance Hairston will begin to get starts at SS. IMO replacing Betancourt's name at SS with Hairston's will go a long way towards a deep run in October.

Hawkins is a machine. I hope they make an effort to re-sign him for the next couple of seasons. He's been so reliable since regaining health.

Great series. I thought we'd probably win it but the sweep is a cherry on top.

Chemistry is born of winning, not the other way around. It's pretty overrated in baseball. If a guy isn't getting the job done, his teammates know it and would understand if he wasn't playing.

All this fun and then we're all (hopefully) subjected to the vagaries of a 5-game series. In a weird way I'm very conflicted about how this "race" has turned so quickly and decisively in the Brewers favor. Just have to stick to the mantra that it's the journey that matters (while furiously knocking on wood until the October dates are confirmed).

So are the Cardinals still in control of their own destiny, or has that changed yet?
Long gone. If the Cards win out they still lose if the Brewers go 27-7 or better.

Long gone.
As of a few days ago, some of their fans were convinced that they still were.
Once the lead got past 6 games, they no longer did. Because they still have six games left with the Brewers anything 6 or below and they can force a tie just by winning all of their games.

Yes you are all right. I forgot about the head to heads. If they beat the Brewers 6 times that takes away all but one of the games the Brewers can lose. So THIS was the game that prevents the Cards from controlling their own destiny. Milestone!

OK so I'm wrong again. If they'd lost today they could still close out the Cards by winning all 28 of their remaining games that aren't against the Cardinals. So yesterday's win with the Card loss was the game that stopped them from controlling their destiny.

Yesterday is long, long gone . . .
