Rookie dress-up day

Never heard of this until I saw this blurb from Adam McCalvy"

"John Axford leads the Brewers in saves and rookie dress-up days.

Veteran teammates dressed him as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted

Police in 2009 (Axford is from Ontario) and as a pirate in 2010 (Axford

has a sweet mustache). On Sunday, as the Brewers traveled from

Cincinnati to Chicago, they dressed Axford as a biker chick.

Axford narrowly missed the cut. He entered the year with 170 days of Major League service, two days shy of one full year.

"You just have to embrace what you're wearing and strut your stuff out there," Axford said.

His favorite outfit on Sunday belonged to infielder Taylor Green, who

was dressed as one of the "green man" characters most recently

popularized by two especially avid Vancouver Canucks fans. It was not

simply name association; the Brewers' Green man is actually from

Vancouver Island."

Sounds like something in the vein of the cowboy team outfit. Sounds funny, wish there were some pictures out there.

Yeah - most, if not all, teams do this every year. It's a sort of mild rookie hazing tradition.

I just assumed the Brewers didn't do this because every year I look for info or pictures and I never find anything.

So if anyone can post any pics, this year or previous, it would be much appreciated. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Also, especially during the beginning of the year, you will see rookie bullpen pitchers with a pink or "girly" backpack containing gum, sunflower seeds, etc. walking out to the bullpen before the game as a "hazing" ritual.

No mention of It's Always Sunny? Bad reporting.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Wow that hazing must be pretty brutal.

Oh, that happens all year, although the Brewers don't use a backpack, they have a purple suitcase, with wheels and everything.

At the September 11 game, the Phillies' newest bullpen guy sported not only a pink girly backpack, but also a hot pink boa. I'm not really a PHI fan, but I did like that.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I don't know what's more absurd, that it's a girly backpack, or that the have a bag full of candy and snacks to begin with. Why not just have the vendors make rounds to the bullpens?

No wonder relievers end up looking like Ray King after a few years.
