Lucas Erceg is having a hell of a day. Torching pretty much everything he sees and just made a diving stop and uncorked a rocket to 1B.

Brewers righty Taylor Williams 95-98, thought I saw a 99 on one gun.

I know people think he is too obscure to be selected, but scouts are omnipresent. There is no way I'd leave him unprotected.

I agree. People were raving about him in Spring Training in 2015. You don't want to risk giving up an arms like that.

Take a lesson from Cleeland a few years ago.

A former top pitching prospect was recovering from TJ surgery. Although he had been a starter before, things were going rough. Kid was used as a reliever and he started to tear up winter ball. Tribe decided not to place prospect on 40 man.

Rule 5 draft, he was taken in first few selections.

Team taking him: Chicago Cubs

Player: Hector Rondon

You never have enough pitching/ good arms. Places can be found for them, even if part of a trade to get other items of need.

Taylor Williams is a guy I've been excited about and waiting for patiently. I hope we make sure he's protected. He's got the type of electric tool I'm always glad to see.

Payton Henry has been a guy I hoped we would draft, and I'm eagerly anticipating his progression.

Over/under on how many of our 2016 draftees end up Brewers? I'm going to say a whopping five. Ray, Erceg, Burnes, Henry, McClanahan. Those are my favorites. That's not to slight a number of others, including Feliciano.

Taylor Williams got up to #8 on our Top 25 to start 2015. A lot of people who saw him in spring training were raving about him - I think Braun or someone said he was the best arm in camp - that sort of thing.

I wonder where he'll start next year. He only has 25 innings at A+. So maybe there. But he'll be 26, so I imagine they'll be fairly aggressive if he does okay.

So, Monte Harrison has long been a favorite of mine and has had trouble performing in games and staying healthy. We saw EVERYTHING he can do on Friday. He homered from his knee a la Adrian Beltre (which I have on tape so you'll see that on the Brewers org list) and then threw a ball from left field that I thought was going to rocket through the backstop fence. It's a 7 arm, 5 run, huge raw power he just doesn't make consistent contact in games. Could be a star.

Yes, that is the juxtaposition. He had an electric arm, but TJ surgery and out a year when he was a bit old for the level anyway. Its hard to be aggressive (pitching more innings) on a guy coming back from TJ surgery. I'd be ok if they put him at AA to start the season (aggressive placement).

Personally, he and Kirby drop down my list pretty far due to TJ surgery. But when they prove to be healthy, they jump back up quickly also.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I would imagine that the competition level at the instructional league must be pretty low. Probably on the R or R+ level on average? With such a wide range of players participating, I can't imagine the stats to be overly useful, just the scouting reports (e.g. bat speed, FB/CB/CU, defense).

I think they'll be VERY aggressive with him. Not in terms of pushing him with too many innings/ pitches, but in how he advances up the ladder.

At his age, he needs to contribute at the MLB level ASAP. Would not even surprise me if he's in Milwaukee at some point in 2017, either as SP, or more likely out of the pen.

Hope he becomes a star. Kid works hard every day and makes no excuses. Always has a postive attitude.

That isn't a bad idea... Start him at AA as a starter (or probably a limited starter like Ponce did this year) for the first half, then move him to the BP in the second half. Could be called up earlier than Sept if he does well.

Then back to AAA in 2018 to build up his innings.

Erceg playing short for Brewers again today. Lara at third, Gatewood at first.

Erceg with great range over at short to pick a bad hop, nail runner on a SB attempt. Doesn't look out of place.

I love that they are playing him there. Talk about a huge steal this guy could turn out to being. I watched him twice this last year and loved the swing and athletic ability.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Great offensive approach and swing. I would prefer him to bulk up and play 3B/1B, but he can always be moved there quite easily in the future. If he can play short let him for now.

Does Erceg have the upside of someone like Tulowitzki? Is it way too early to make that comparison?

I love his defense, I love his hitting and power, and after reading that long article about his past and putting that behind him and working VERY hard to get to where he's at now, I love the makeup of this kid. I hope he absolutely kills it in Carolina next year.
