Interesting. Does anyone have a sense why EMJ is signing so late in the cycle? I wonder what the circumstance is that caused him not to sign in the summer of 2016 but at the eleventh hour?

 

At least we have our answer as to what the Brewers were looking for when they traded for that cash slot for 16-17.

 

As for 2017-18, Ernesto sure looks talented when you see him swing. But then again Lara looks good in the team photo. But whether anything translates to actual performance remains to be seen. But Ernesto sure looks like he's worth investing in.

 

With Ernesto being a high upside potential outfielder, I'd hope the Brewers go elsewhere at 1-9, particularly pitcher or Pavin Smith rather than take Abell, Kendall, or Beck as everyone and their monkey has mocked.

Can Ernesto play this year for the Brewers or does he have to wait until next year. I thought that was only for 16 year olds that the team had to wait a year before they can play in their organization or am I remembering something wrong here?

He can play, believe he is 17. He was in lineup for 1-2 games. Not sure if he went to Arizona or if he got injuried.

If you're talking about Ernesto Martinez, Jr., yes, he's eligible to play this year, and has.

 

If you're talking about Larry Ernesto, who will be signed on July 2, he won't be eligible to play until after this season.

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 30 | Run: 60 | Arm: 50 | Field: 60

The athletic Rodriguez is small compared some of the other prospects in this year's class, but his tools have big potential.

 

The center fielder has a chance to be a plus hitter, a plus runner and a plus center fielder. He has been compared to a young Ender Inciarte and a teenage Gerardo Parra with better tools at the same age. He projects to have an average arm.

 

At the plate, Rodriguez has a nice and easy swing with good bat speed. He can drive the ball to all fields with hard contact and has shown enough pop to make some believe he will develop future power potential. He is expected to hit for average.

 

Evaluators like that Rodriguez is polished for his age and has track record of success in games, a history that includes participation in national and international tournaments for Venezuela.

 

The teenager is trained and represented by Carlos Olivo and Felix Olivo of O.L. Baseball Academy in Valencia. The Brewers are the favorite to sign him.

Theres some tidbits but I dont know the boards policy on posting that subscriber info. They talk about Ernesto, Carlos Rodriguez and Andres Melendez.

That is about 3mil then. What do they have left?

Brewers have $5.25M to spend, so they have ~$2.1M left plus I believe a 5% overage cushion (~$260K) without getting penalized but I could be wrong on that.

I had to do a double take. We signed Ernesto Martinez after we acquired the cash allotment from the Magnifico trade, finishing the '16-'17 cycle.

 

Now we signed Larry Ernesto today in the new '17-'18 cycle.

How are the under-sanctioned Cubs expected to sign the #30 prospect?

 

So I guess teams can divert 75% of bonus funds on Mexican League players to their parent club so his bonus is 25% of the 1 million. :rolleyes
