How on earth do you not immediately have a pinch runner out there?

Sometimes the game moves a little too quickly for our manager. See bullpen management for eamples.

Well, that stunk. Add another game on the pile of games to look back at if we miss the postseason by a game.

You can’t say this team won’t make the playoffs on here or you’ll be crucified.

Lol it’s counsells fault the team couldn’t execute with 1st and 2nd one out. Then it’s counsells fault Soria (the guy they traded prospects for) couldn’t get the job done with 2 outs nobody on.

Then it’s counsells fault Hader didn’t pitch despite him getting absolutely destroyed In Cincinnati when he inherited runners.

Someone actually posted it was his fault for pitching Cedona (despite him going 3 up 3 down.)

More recently, Hader pitched a perfect inning and got the save on Thursday

I also saw Haders ERA rise almost an entire run from August 4th until now. At the end of the day, the players the GM traded half his prospects for have to perform.

Hader has had a couple of bad outings. It doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s one of the best relievers in baseball and a better option than Dan Jennings on his third consecutive (and 4/5) day of work.

I blame the rain. Why did it have to go away.
Remember what Yoda said:

This was a tough one for sure.

Don't worry though, there are lots of games left, it wasn't a must win, and the manager should hold zero responsibility for end results because the players have to do what they are paid to do.

I think CC's mistake was not having Jennings in there to face Harper, that or not using Hader if he was available. Soria clearly lost it and shouldn't have been out there that long. Being efficient at this point is not as important as being effective. It's September, all hands on deck.

I'm not sure if CC feels he owes it to these guys to give them a chance to get out of their messes or what his friggin deal is, but he needs quicker hooks on these guys.

I am hopeful that after missing playoffs by a game or two that the autopsy of this season will find cause of death poor management. I doubt it but a new manager would make this team a world series contender with a tweek.

Tough one to stomach. With expanded rosters it seems like the importance of managerial strategy is magnified even more. I don’t think Counsell is a terrible manager overall, but it’s really hard to defend any situation where Jennings is pitching to an elite hitter in a high leverage situation.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

What is your point? Jennings is better than Hader now? You would have left Soria in who was missing the strike zone by a foot? The leverage index was 7.79, that is about a high as possible, the correct move in that situation is to go with your best guy. CC did not do that, which was his only job. Understand the situation, make the move that gives you the best chance to win.

I’d be okay with a Travis Shaw walk-off.

Tough task on the road.

Haha, oops.... but imagine how incredible that improbable feat would have been.

Yep, you play the matchup right there. Put your best lefty reliever in against their lefty hitter. If Hader gets beat, he gets beat. But at least you threw your best at them.

Is this what the sarcasm font was intended for? Jerky, off the cuff frustration? Putting this silliness in blue doesn’t hide the snark.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It really is this simple. Any other take is just being ridiculous.

We cannot lose games with Jennngs and Lyles on the mound in the 9th.... 5th or 6th? Sure. This one was a wake up to CC that he's got a month to play and oodles of guys to manage and/or leave on the bench. It's "And Down the Stretch They Come," time and our best guys need to be available with leads.

So Hader and Jeffress pitch tomorrow, we have them for what, a game each against the Cubs?
