Badger Football 2022

UW failed to foresee the future when they got rid of the Gridiron Club a few years ago, would've been perfect for the current NIL setup.

In my day Tucker and Harris were driving cars that 20 year old college kids from their life situations had no business driving. But that was 20 years ago, seemed most of that was way cracked down on UW since then to avoid a scandal. And what ultimately probably led to the disbanding of that club.

Sucks to be us, at least one more year of having to endure watching Mertz play quarterback.

Maybe we'll luck out and either Deacon Hill or Myles Burkett will prove to be the real deal.

Besides the obvious Riley and SoCal aspects clearly in their favor, to me the real killer to this and why I never really got too into it was was we have no WRs besides Dike. Ferguson is gone too. Could've seen a discussion or logic over the last 3ish years when we actually had some decent and athletic WRs on the roster but had no idea how to use them. Or if there was some transfer WR he's bringing with I could've seen it. Who knows, open to be being surprised.

It honestly made no sense in pretty much every aspect there is. I can honestly not think of one good reason Wisconsin would be a better pick over USC or dozens of other schools.

They may have gotten off to a rough start last year, but UW's OL is way better than USC's. Not getting hurt is one good reason to pick UW. (After a full year in the program, the young 4/5 star OL may be ready to step in. Remember, even Joe Thomas didn't start as a freshman - he was a blocking TE.)

It's also been reported that if Williams chooses UW, one or two WR in the portal are going to join him.

I kinda figured he would recruit some WRs if he came to UW.

It isn't so much the team personnel, but the offense and conference in general. Does not seem like the best breeding ground for a QB to light it up. Sure, the OSU QB often does, but he is surrounded by ridiculous talent. Some other conference QBs have done well over the years...but not 1st round aspiration type numbers.

He obviously would have made the Badgers better but I really don’t like this process. I guess I have turned into an angry old man but the constant shifting of players from one team to another is really destroying what I liked about college football.

I guess it depends on how prevalent it becomes, but I think it makes it a little more interesting. If a good player is stuck behind a great one and can still improve another team, seems fair to everyone.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Yea it's a bit frustrating in general, especially in basketball with how huge it is there so for tons of teams they're building whole new squads every year. Seems it will happen in FB too but just due to the nature of the size of teams there is still going to need for building and developing a program. Plus, have to try and keep in mind if it wasn't for his coach jumping ship none of this would've happened. We've all kind of accepted it for years from coaches making tons of money already so not too crazy the players can do the same thing

Outside of Duke and Kentucky, who is even churning through brand new squads like that?

Seems like transfer are the new fad though with the COVID instant transfers that were allowed.

Your last line is what I was talking about. That is happening a lot all over CBB and seems no end in site for it.

Relative to UW. When many made a big fuss on the UW players who went in the portal this offseason, it seemed like a big deal because it's rare for UW. Reality is if you pay closer attention to CBB that has been happening a ton for a few years now. Lots of guys transferring because it's easy combined with lots of guys 'going pro' just to go play overseas leading to massive turnover each year for teams. Think of how Marquette has operated for awhile, relative to UW on this topic. There's been a big reduction in 'program building' in the traditional way. Many teams are basically putting together new teams each year. I also mean up and down CBB, I don't necessarily mean specifically the top big conf teams.
