Generally, "earning it" entails statistical production...

Frelick in 158 MILB games: .332/.407/.479/.886

Mitchell in 132 MILB games: .273/.382/.419/.801

Wiemer in 236 MILB games: .274/.367/.506/.873

Also, I don't know where you're getting it from that Wiemer is a faster runner. They both grade out as 60/70 runners.

I go by sprint speed. You should consult both Counsell and Arnold with your player opinions, maybe you can change their minds.

Wiemer = 6.73 sec. - 60 yard dash

frelick = 4.0 sec. - 30 yard dash (home to first)

I get why they went with Wiemer instead, as they wanted the right-handed bat. But Frelick has the best statistical production of the trio and has thus “earned” it more. And I’m hardly alone in that thinking, as virtually every major prospect evaluator has Frelick as the superior prospect.

The main stat here is that Weimer has played /experienced 78 more Miib games than Frelick.   That’s a whole season.   While yes, Frelick’s stats are extremely drool-worthy, having a full season more experience for Weimer was huge in this decision.

I don't get the controversy to be honest. They're both top prospects, they'll both be up sooner rather than later. It's not like Frelick is getting kept down in favor of some 33-year-old AAAA journeyman.

1) I hope Wiemer does well while he's up.
2) I'd be pissed if I was Frelick as I'd be wondering what more do I have to prove.
3) They aren't necessarily burning a year of Wiemer's service time, because I suspect he will not be up for the entire year. I think he'd have to be OPSing 850+ and have impeccable fielding to keep him on the roster when Taylor is ready (or have another injury on the roster).

I don't think Frelick is shocked nor wondering.

I think he understands how service time works and how prospects have been handled for the past decade+. Hence, why the guys said he was going to start the year at AAA before spring training even started.
